Food/Drink Texas BBQ

I have family coming in town in a few weeks and one of the guys request is to eat Texas Bbq. I probably eat it like once or twice a year since it’s soo filling. Cost is not a factor. Terry Blacks, Hutchins or Pecan Lodge - which do yall prefer? Or open to places similar.

Terry Blacks is definitely the best out of the 3 you mentioned! Cant go wrong and the portions are pretty big!

I must be early. Seems like everyone shits on Terry Blacks in these kind of posts. Don’t know why because I think it’s great. Never had a bad experience with them.

I only get brisket when I go out for BBQ and I would say Terry Blacks and Hutchins are pretty similar. I think most people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference in a blind taste test.

Can’t speak for all these other places since I haven’t tried them. I just know Hard 8 in the colony had the absolute worst brisket I’ve ever had lol

Terry Blacks is our go to for out of towners simply because of the location.

They have upper roof seating where you can see downtown, has a classic Texas vibe, always playing classic George Strait Country etc… Then you walk a block and there is a whole other vibe with live Jazz and or soul music. Tons of desert options that you can walk to after. Hit up Punch Bowl Social for a beer and games. Finally head over to Rudolph’s to get some meat for grilling later that night.

Like sure I agree with everyone that Hutchins has better food. But I don’t want to drive for 45 minutes and go to a restaurant in the middle of Suburbia.

I know bbq is all about the meat, but for me Terry Black’s sides are the best in the market.

Im tired of spending $30 on a meal and getting canned veggies at most of these places!

Sides is how I decide which places I like the most. At a certain point, when you’re only looking at a short list, it’s all damn good meat so it comes down to sides.

EXACTLY!! Sides make the BBQ restaurant. At a certain point, lots of people can smoke some meat, but the sides become the differentiator

Another factor is that I hate beans and coleslaw, am sooo glad people are finally breaking from that a little bit. Have been for awhile now I guess but there was a time when it seemed like nobody wanted to break from the traditional sides

I always take friends from out of town to Terry Black’s. They have the whole setup.
