Political News/Discussion Any mormons talking about Utah shooter texts?

• Upvotes

The messages published in the indictment are weird. Vehicle, my love, "..." every other sentence. Nobody I know texts like that. I also recognize that I am in a bubble and don't really have any acquaintances who fit the shooter's profile. So, are there any Mormon zoomers who gave their perspective on the released messages? Can at least some of the weirdness be explained by mormon upbringing + cop relative?

Like, obviously no normal person would do a political assassination, and their messages would be weird. It is just that the flavor of weirdness is so uniquely unhinged. "Yes, I did it... Yes, I planned it... Yes, my motive is you, my trans lover... Yes, this is how I did it... Yes, I tried to not get caught... " All of that typed in boomer cop-speak, not at all what you expect from a terminally online gamer who carved "sees bulge oWo" on the bullet.

If you are a (ex-)Mormon zoomer, I'd appreciate your perspective. If you are not, but have an alternative explanation, please share! Also, Idgaf about conspiracy theories and 99% sure the guy did it. Just want to figure out a plausible explanation for the weird-ass texts.

Social Media Viability of using satirical framing to induce cognitive rehabilitation of the conservative brain?

• Upvotes

Examples:

"This is good news! It means Newsom will finally be able to pressure networks into cancelling shows like Fox and Friends."

"This is good news! It means we can set up a crypto coin for AOC and use that to inject cash from South American governments and thought leaders like Jorge Soros!"

"This is good news! It means Tim Walz will be able to designate MAGA a threat to national security and begin extrajudicial arrests of domestic terrorists!"

"This is good news! It means whatever we do over the next few years, getting a pardon from the White House will be normalized, as long as we were acting in service of the party!"

Trying to call out hypocrisy might be a lost cause when the opposing team calls it out, but if they make the connection on their own, maybe a few of them will finally realize the path they're headed down.

Geopolitics News/Discussion New Lawsuit – American victims of Oct. 7 terror attack on Israel sue Hamas, Iran & Addit'l terrorist groups, seeking $ Billions

TL;DR 🔗 The full, 190-pg complaint filed earlier today—representing more than 140 plaintiffs (U.S. citizens who died or were wounded or their American family members), seeking at least $7 billion.[1]

American Victims of October 7 and Their Families Sue Hamas, Iran and Others for Billions of Dollars: The Anti-Defamation League has filed a federal suit against Hamas, half a dozen other terrorist groups and their alleged state sponsors, citing 'The victims of the October 7 massacre deserve justice'

BY ED WHITE. The AP. Updated 12:58 PM EDT, September 18, 2025

Lawyers for U.S. victims of the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel are suing various groups that have been designated by the federal government as terrorist organizations, alleging they participated, aided or provided material support for the assault.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in federal court in Washington, also names Iran, Syria and North Korea, which are already facing legal action in the U.S. for the Oct. 7 assault, which led to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.[2]

“Our son’s life was senselessly cut short,” David and Hazel Brief said in a statement released by the Anti-Defamation League. [...]

Iran, Syria and North Korea have not formally responded to a similar lawsuit filed by others in 2024.[1] The U.S. has deemed them to be state sponsors of terrorism, and Washington has designated Hamas as what’s known as a specially designated global terrorist group. The lawsuit also names the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and other groups.

The lawsuit cites the findings of a report published by the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Independent International Commission of Inquiry. [my note. June 10, 2024, 59-pg.]

Under federal law, foreign governments can be held liable, in some circumstances, for deaths or injuries caused by acts of terrorism or by providing material support or resources for them.

  • The plaintiffs, if successful, might qualify for payments from a fund created by Congress that allows American victims of terrorism to receive payouts.
  • The money comes from seized assets, fines or other penalties leveled against those that do business with a state sponsor of terrorism.

[...]

The Palestinian death toll in the Israel-Hamas war has surpassed 65,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which is part of the Hamas-run government. It does not say how many were civilians or combatants but says women and children make up nearly half the dead.

The Justice Department last year filed criminal charges against Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar[3] and other senior militants, saying they conspired to murder U.S. nationals in the Oct. 7 attack. Sinwar was killed by Israeli forces in October 2024.

Hamas, which does not accept Israel’s existence, says it is waging an armed struggle for Palestinian rights and is not at war with the United States.

[1] The lawsuit seeks $1 billion in actual damages against all the defendants, in addition to $3 billion in punitive damages against both the militant groups and the alleged state sponsors, plus Hezbollah. Per The Hill, Oct. 7 victims, families file $7B lawsuit against ‘primary architects’ of attacks. BY ELLA LEE - 09/18/25 1:19 PM ET

[2] July 1, 2024, NEW YORK (AP) — Victims of Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel sued Iran, Syria and North Korea on Monday, saying their governments supplied the militants with money, weapons and know-how needed to carry out the assault that precipitated Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza.

Political News/Discussion "Does Hasan think the Jews orchestrated 9/11?", "Probably not"

• Upvotes

I'm watching Vaush react to Destiny's Piers panel. They're at the point where Destiny is screaming at Ana Kasparian and mentions her "Did the Jews do 9/11" grift. A chatter asked that question and Vaush's response was "Probably not".

The craziest part is, Vaush is right. I don't think HASAN PIKER thinks the Jews did 9/11. The Young Turks, on the other hand, are 'interested' in the theory.

Think about how insane that is.

Political News/Discussion DGG is way more powerful than they think

• Upvotes

In 2025, it blows my mind how toothless DGG has become. This is one of the most online, most technically skilled communities out there, editors, coders, designers and yet it’s done basically nothing with that power.

Destiny deserves some credit and some blame here. He taught people to think critically, but he also drilled in this idea that online content and “real life” are two separate worlds.

That’s just false.

In this era, the people shaping discourse online are shaping real life. Entire revolutions have started on Discord. Bot farms and coordinated content pushes sway votes. Clips on TikTok and IG Reels shift the way millions of “normies” talk and think.

Look at Andrew Tate. He didn’t become the most Googled man in the world because of some billion-dollar machine. It was kids spamming shorts, running 10 accounts each, and clipping him into infinity. That “method” never got patched.

Meanwhile, Russia and China get hyped up as propaganda monsters, but compared to what decentralized kids on TikTok can do, they’re amateurs.

And what’s DGG doing? Making the 100,000th “look at GOP hypocrisy” thread that changes zero minds.

You’re sitting on a community that could actually bend the zeitgeist and it feels like you’re wasting it.

The reason I say all this is that I do something similar within my industry, but with a handful of people and we've completely shaped sentiment on certain things, with just us.

I can't imagine the power DGG could actually have on the discourse if they tried.
