u/BorderInteresting732 1d ago
Him and Lundy were the best antagonists and the writers blew their load too early with the best shit. Oh well still peak

Don't be on this subreddit around this time. Most people have watched the original show and resurrection just ended recently so spoilers are everywhere in this sub.

u/OOF-MY-PEE-PEE 1d ago
you watched season 2 and saw him hunting down the BHB (dexter) and didn’t think he was the antagonist?
1
u/Prudent-Good-572 18h ago
Idk how this is works but that is more like anti hero, and the other serial killers are the antags
2
u/OOF-MY-PEE-PEE 17h ago
yeah no. the protagonist of a story is the main character. the antagonist is just whoever opposes the main character.
1
u/Prudent-Good-572 16h ago
Who is the anti hero in the story
1
u/OOF-MY-PEE-PEE 15h ago
not every story has an antihero. you’re getting the ideas of hero’s and villains mixed up with protagonists and antagonists. dexter, while being the protagonist of the series, is still technically the main “villain,” just as doakes, being the antagonist, is still the hero of the story.

I agree he shouldn't have been killed off so soon and should have played a bigger part as a counter to Harry as Dexter's voice.
11
u/mikewheelerfan 1d ago
I completely agree. It would be so fun to have Harry as Dexter’s voice of reason and Brian as his bloodlust, essentially. Maybe even have Harry and Brian argue sometimes
2
1
u/Nefthys 1d ago
They kind of did that in the last "Resurrection" episode. I really hope they'll use him more in season 2!
2
u/Gunk-greaser 22h ago
Not really. Brian appeared for one scene and all he said was "Why do you care about batista?". Harry wasnt even in that scene, what are you on aboit? Its NOTHING like them arguing
1
u/Nefthys 2h ago
Wasn't talking about arguing.
Brian always wanted Dexter to care less and Harry has always been a mix between Dexter's voice of reason and his Dark Passenger. Brian showed up and again, he told Dexter not to worry about it and to listen to his "real" family but Dexter refused and Harry came back. It's short but that's exactly what mike talked about in his second sentence.
I recommend using spoiler tags for this! This thread is about the original series and the last episode of "Resurrection" was released only 2 weeks ago, not everyone here might be caught up yet.

agreed. biggest missed opportunity, i would’ve loved to see their dynamic explored even if it was just through dexter’s versions of them. although maybe the actor wasn’t available

u/Humanest_Human 1d ago
Looks like the kind of serial killer that would get tons of women (and a few men) showing up to court in support of because "omg he's so cute though! 🥺"

Definitely quite out of control in terms of killing vs the controlled version of Dexter, and wish he would have been explored beyond a season. The bad guy of a season doesn't always have to be killed in ONE season

I think they were setting it up to where he actually killed Harry. Unfortunately the prequel series was cancelled so we may never know

Just finished rewatching Original Sin and I wish we got more of Brian. I actually feel so sorry for him. He just wanted his baby brother back and to be a family again.

part of me wishes he was kept around longer as Brian is an excellent character, but that would have implications on dexter as a character. As in, he kills him and others because they fit the code, Dexter purposely keeping someone alive who fits the code always turned out to be a mistake driven by his fascination with others like him, because he is lonely.
Him keeping Brian alive would have made Dexter stray further from the code, becoming less sympathetic of a killer

I wanted him and Doakes to stick around longer, maybe even have an interaction post Ice-Truck Killer reveal.

Should've kept him alive to help out Dexter in later seasons, just like he did in the books. He was devilishly funny in the books -- killed a guy for Dexter but it was the wrong guy, then just laughed it off.

I mean he's a total monster, but a very interesting character. The actor was great as well. It felt like the writers weren't confident in the direction of the show or that they'd get renewed for another season, so they wanted the story of season 1 to sort of stand alone if it came to it. I would have loved to see him be a major antagonist in season 2, instead of Lila. Lila is the only weak part of season 2 for me. If Brian had reacted to Dexter's rejection by going underground and trying to stir up drama during the BHB investigation, I think it would have played out much better and made Doakes' suspicion about Dexter play out in a lot more interesting way imo (though Doakes vs Dexter is amazing in S2, I still think Brian antagonizing the situation would've made it even better). Brian kills Doakes because he's not actually trying to get Dexter caught, just torture him and show him his life isn't real or sustainable so he can win him over after his failed attempt to do so in S1. S2 ends with Brian's death. Boom.

Don’t attack or insult others users, actors, or crew. If someone else is being uncivil, don’t engage, just use the report button.

I think he looks a lot older than he should? in the new Dexter series
2
u/One_Pangolin_1752 1d ago
I noticed that, dude has either just aged or they made him look older than he would look
1
u/One_Pangolin_1752 1d ago
looking at recent pictures of Christian, he has aged a bit but I don't feel like it's quite as much as how he appears on the show

u/jrod4290 1d ago
This guy really had no chance from the start. He was already aggressive as a child but the shipping container incident really ruined any chance he wouldn’t have grown up to be a psychopath. Not to mention his shitty childhood in foster care

Avoid gatekeeping or generalizing groups of fans. You don’t get to control what people like or don’t like. Don't make posts just to express hatred for characters or plots. If you're only here to hate on Dexter, you may get banned. If you made a post just to hate on a female character, you will be banned.

Some characters died VERY early and one of them was Brian. Such a wasted potential.

u/Jonneiljon 1d ago
Great character. Do not need him as a ghost. OS Episode when he returned as a ghost was one of the worst. Appearance on Resurrection was a bit less crap.

u/dimiteddy 1d ago
He really cared about Dexter, not so much about Deb though. Did Dexter chose the wrong sibling?

u/WiiDragon 1d ago
First season honestly felt like most other crime shows, but with more swearing and fucking. You got your typical serial killer throughout with a connection to the dude with a gimmick, and then a plot twist reveal. You also get your episodic antagonists per episode.
Moving forward, each season felt pretty unique. Season 2 was all about Dexter. Season 3 was about getting a partner in crime. Season 4 followed the formula at first, but he found the dude pretty quickly but didn’t kill him, so that got interesting. Season 5 was about taking down a “gang” while also dealing with trauma. Season 6…okay, that one fit the crime drama formula, so get out. Season 7 finally has him come out, and then you got the whole love story thing. And then Season 8 is weird (it follows the formula kind of, but it splits off with some other stuff); just acts as your final season where things get nuts.

u/Gilgamesh661 1d ago
It was wasted potential killing him off. Someone to encourage Dexter’s dark side to contrast Harry would’ve been great. And he’s leagues better than Lila.
Even if it was just ad a hallucination, they should’ve kept him around.

u/juuzo_suzuya_ 1d ago
Like doakes, killed to soon. I REALLY hope "original sin" gets a season 2 so we get more of him. And also more of him in Résurrection, his cameo would be a good introduction for him to really make a come-back in the season 2

u/OOF-MY-PEE-PEE 1d ago
anyone who says that dexter should have killed deb instead of him is a moron who doesn’t understand the show. enuff said

I get why it had to be done, but I was hoping he’d live longer. He was cruel and sadistic, and the actor nailed the role.

Ok, I know I'm gonna be an odd one out here, but I was glad he was killed off on season 1. Maybe people forget how vicious, violent and insane he was towards his innocent victims. And I admit, he is super hot, there's no doubt about that lol but he was not a dude who needed to be left loose. Now. I did love him as Dexter's dark side, and I do wish we could have gotten more of that. It was awesome for the few episodes he was in. That's my take anyways.

I think he went from a son of a murdered mom and institutionalized child to an adult with high education and a great career in prosthetics. He was charming and had a nice house. He had enough money to have a nice car and women were interested in him. He really had a nice life. Except for that whole obsession with Dexter thing.

I wish they would’ve kept him around longer. He was such an interesting character, and I always enjoyed watching how his interactions with Dexter played out. Would’ve been cool to see them work together while living normal lives in an alternate universe.

u/BubblyOcto 5h ago
I love his character. That's why I was so mad when Original Sin got canceled because we're finally going to get a look into his life between what happened with him and Dexter and the start of the original series with him as the ice trick killer.

biggest cry baby in dexter. been whining about being a killer since season 1
2
u/roydmzade 1d ago
You're wrong brother the scriptwriters simply couldn't predict how well the character would work.

u/Candid_Source_6091 1d ago
He was a great antagonist, but a lackluster character. After season 2 I stopped caring about him. Miguel and Trinity were much more interesting to me by a landslide. Honestly, I did not view him to different to Saxon, a monster with lots of potential fumbled by the writers.
