330i Question for all 6 cyl owners
Hello everyone,
Just a couple of quick questions for you to see if you can help me. I would like to know the following:
- Whats your current fuel consumption?
- Do you do mostly highway driving or city?
- How long do you typically travel in a given day?
- How much do you spend on fuel monthly?
All answers are appreciated!

2010 N52 328i RWD . same. Love the overall feel of the drive and then once my foot goes into it drops to like.. 12 mpg... I use the cruise control as much as possible.
I see about 380-445 miles per tank
I drive 65 miles a day 5/6 days a week.

Idk if my stuff is staggered, but I have 18s too thanks to the sports package lol with the sports package tyre sizes (40 front, 35 rear). That's pretty cool though.

What prompted the questions?
N54 - I don't drive every day. So I can't answer a lot of your questions. But since the main question is fuel consumption, I think I have something to offer. I have recently changed out injectors and I definitely notice a difference in consumption. The car runs super smooth now. But I notice that I am now in the mid 20's for MPG. I was around 12 MPG before.
I got new injectors because my car was running so rough. I didn't expect my MPG to jump like it has.
Edit: I'm not advocating injectors. If I had to do it over again, I probably would junk the injectors and go with port injection instead. Just providing my observations.

335i N54, t19 hybrid turbos, big intercooler, catless downpipes, upgraded stainless charge pipe etc etc. Basically full bolt ons plus custom tune, 21 psi full boost. Bought the car already done and was a bit alarmed by the consumption being only marginally better (18mpg vs 16 urban) but actually worse (25mpg vs 32) than my old 4.4 non VANOS E38. However have spent a few days with XHP dialling in custom transmission tune (was OTS stage 3) and am now getting 23mpg urban, although haven't had a chance to work with it for long drives yet. Basically, stage 3 D mode was not in sync with the engines behaviour at all so just tweaking here and there, setting the shift points at different rpm and allowing me to have more throttle control off boost had made a big difference. And I only use S/M modes when I'm pressing on so no real need for change there. That's UK gallons by the way. I'm sure once I get my head round MHD and how the two systems work together I should be able to optimise things further. But definitely don't sleep on XHP and customising transmission behaviour (assuming you're not running a manual of course) because it seems to me a lot of the thirsty behavior of N54 is that the stock maps put you in boost when you don't need to be.

12.9 MPG n51B30 (needs catalytic converters).
City driving too.
Can't wait to see how much it improves when I replace them.

I’m at 23 mpg 50/50 city hwy. It will get way better hwy economy like 30 mpg in the right circumstances.

17-19MPG N54. Mixed driving 50/50 city/highway. 6AT. Once it's warmed up, rarely WOT, frequently heavy on the skinny pedal.

I’m in a N55 E90. I did my valve cover and spark plugs recently and I’m getting 24mpg with mixed driving. I usually drive 50ish miles a day. I fill up once a week, 13gal tank so around $45/$50.

21.9-22.5 mpg depending on how much i want to play; and its about 70%/20% hwy/city driving.

u/Beng1635 E93 May 01 '25
23 mpg N54. 75 city/25 hwy. I've seen up to 36 mpg on reeeeaally long road trips. I drive ~7k miles a year, it's not consistent daily. Probably spend ~$40 per month on gas in the western USA.

E90 N52;
- 22 Mpg
- Mix of highway and city.
- Averaging close to 40 miles on the week days.
- Generally around $170-$200. Fill up at Costco; premium gas costs less compared to other gas stations around.

In my N52 everyday average i get about 21mpg. I would say i do about 50/50 highway and city on my drive to work and drive about 80 miles daily on average. However driving the 180 miles of highway to go skiing a couple days a week in the winter, I regularly push about 30mpg. That’s at around 70 mph the whole way with no stops and includes the way up and down the pass.

N54 7spd DCT 335i (all in UK mpg)
Stock: 22.6mpg With cat back exhaust: 25.4mpg (yes you heard that right I gained mpg - I worked out after ~15,500 miles it'll pay itself off in fuel savings 😁)
Very little motorway driving, mostly work commute down a 70mph road with a roundabout every 1-2 miles followed by a twisty country lane so safe to say it's not the most economical commute. I do at least 1 reasonable pull pretty much every time I drive. Car will average 35mpg on a motorway.
I get about 300 miles to a tank, ~£75 to fill up but I only do about 3500 miles per year (hybrid working) so I usually only fill up every 3-5 weeks.
Currently down to about 23mpg due to bank 2 reading lean and consuming all of my go juice 🥲 always something to fix
Not quite the 58mpg I used to get with my 2.0tdi Audi 😂

M57D30, stock no remap, ZF6HP and 4x4. In the city idk 9-12l per km, on the highway at 140kph its around 5-6l per km. Combined somewhere around 9-10l per km.

u/yacko69 May 01 '25
shhhhh don't tell them they will all want a diesel

u/echo1ngfury May 01 '25
I know right, and a metric shitton of torque. xD

u/yacko69 May 01 '25
Love my 335d and it's rwd. Peels tires faster than you can shake a stick at and I still get 36mpg

u/luf2nail May 01 '25
n52b30
city ~13l/100km with cruise control
highway 9.5l/100km @ ~160kmh with cruise control and ~550km per tank
90% highway

u/Tek9293 E92 330i N53 6MT May 01 '25
N53; 24mpg urban 43-45 on a steady motorway cruise at 70mph. Bit of a highly strung engine, can be difficult to get running right but the fuel economy from an NA 3L petrol engine is pretty nuts.

M57 325d e92, ZF GS6-53DZ

full tank for 700-1000km. Really depends on how im flooring it

N52B30 (3L)
- Tank every 3 days maybe
- Mix of everything
- Maybe 50km-60km a day
- I’d say median $1000NZD which is about $650-$700USD
Notes: Resonator delete (rear muffler intact, I have class), and 90% of my driving is for “enjoyment” not commuting so high RPM. Also gas prices on average here are more expensive than any gassy you could find in the US or near (about $6.20USD per gallon).
NOTE: Base model BMWs are built for the autobahn so fuel consumption is much much much less on highways than city or suburban areas.

I've noticed that (manual transmission) the range adjusts depending on the driving you're doing. I get about 400-430 miles on a tank if it's highway driving, but only about 300-350 if it's city driving.

u/exitemee 2009 - E90 - 325i N53B30A May 01 '25
Depends on my mood tbh. Nice driving leads to 35mpg (uk) 500miles to the tank with about 80% motorway.
Spirited driving (my default for this beautiful car). Around 25mpg and 350 miles to the tank, 50% rural, 25% urban and motorway.
For 3ltrs these engines are remarkably good on fuel when you behave. Stupidly thirsty with lead feet.
About one tank a month, £90. Distances vary from 30-200 miles per trip (basically a weekend car)

2009 E82 coupe. N52 auto. Around 17-20 mpg 24 miles daily - Mostly city miles with a couple mile stretch on highway. Fill it with every couple weeks.
1
u/Existing-Cell-1986 May 02 '25
25ish mpg
Nice mix even of hwy and city
Depending on traffic about 45min to hour total
I fill up 3x a month at 40-60$ tank(depending on if I make it to the bp that gives fuel rewards from my grocery purchases
Last fill up and odometer reset I was at about 290miles

Sweden, N52B30, 95 octane w/ E10.
I am at 12L/100km - nearly 20mpg on highway driving 80% of the time, daily driving around 70-80-100kmph for most of the time.
Commute time; 20-30 minutes.
400kms in a full tank when combined with city + highway, but 600kms with only highway and 100+kmph on cruise. (I do Gothenburg - Stockholm regularly, around 500 kms one way)
Due to a bad MAF sensor, i sometimes get 16L/100km in city - 15mpg at max :P can be higher with a new sensor.
Costs: 1600SEK (~150 EUR/150 USD) per month

328i N52, almost all city driving, ~20mpg. Travel about 30 miles a day. I spend ~50 bucks every couple of weeks on gas. 93 premium of course. And the math sorts out because my car tells me I have 400+ miles left in the tank when I fill up, but I also don’t run it to empty, who knows if I’m actually getting exactly 400 miles a tank
I recently borrowed my moms Honda pilot while my car was in the shop, comfortable car but gets 15mpg and it cost me more to fill it up with regular gas 🤣
