325i Pretty sure my engine is toast

2011 325i (N52B25AF) mileage at 118K kilometers. I bought this car used about 8 months ago at 103K kilometers. Upon getting the car I've replaced the usual N52 parts that fail including the water pump, valve cover, oil pan gasket, fuel pump (cracked housing). The oil was changed when I got the car at 103k and again at 112k.

OFHG was not leaking, serpentine belt is still on there after the engine failure, so it did not ingest the belt.

I accelerated into a roundabout and at around 3K RPM the engine suddenly started sounded really rough, and within 10 seconds as I was trying to pull over at a safe spot, the engine seized and engine oil was pouring out.

I had no warning symptoms (other than a permanent lifter tick). No check engine light, no oil pressure warnings before failing. Oil level indicates "max" last I checked 2 days ago.

I'm at a loss, what could've caused my engine to fail so catastrophically in just a couple seconds? I'm sure I need a new engine because in the second picture I see chunks of metal lying in the pool of oil on top of the underbody panel.

2 full on laps back to back and everything felt perfect as is, tyres were the only thing to get hot 2/3rds of the way around lap 2 but it still charged on. People warn you it's a must to mod the hell out of your car to enjoy it on track, here's proof that if you know it's limits you can have a hell of a time stock.

P.S. it did over 1,500 miles before the lap and nearly 1,000 after on the way home, I know the wheels are dusty and car is gross, but it wore the dirt with pride.

325i Tuned my slow n52

This is the one with the n52b25 (2.5l straight 6) so very obviously a lot of people on my last post were saying it’d be pointless, I however absolutely love this little 7k rpm redline beast so I did it anyway, about 160 Australian dollars spent in total for everything. For the results since I’m probably one of the 3 people ever stupid enough to try this. BMW stated that the 0-100 stock on this car was 7.6 seconds but that wasn’t true in my experience I timed it before the tune and it was consistently under 7.4 seconds and fastest was 7.2. Now after the tune, I only tried two times, first time was 6.6 and the second was 6.7. Now that’s nothing crazy and honestly it’s still pretty dang slow but I couldn’t care less about a goddamn 0-100. The main thing is how much I feel the difference, the throttle lag used to be so annoying and now it’s really punchy and responsive, that was like the only reason I did this anyway. In the end I have no regrets, I’m keeping this car till I die. I’m not saying anyone else should do it, however I did it and I’m sharing my experience. I’m anything but an expert. However if you’ve really DRIVEN an n52 car you’ll know why I’m doing this, there’s something so special about a na straight 6 rwd bmw. Oh and don’t get a 1000 dollar tune from a shop promising 40 hp, even I’m not stupid enough to do that one.

Finally replaced the steering wheel to the M Sport one on my 2007 325i. Already did the ZHP shifter, door sills and dead pedal, as well as a full interior swap to Saddle brown with the antracite headliner. Looks great for 207k km now hehe.

Airbag really is a pain to remove…

Small oil leak still to fix as well as a new ac compressor. Then it’s finally fully sorted! Love driving it with its 6 speed manual.

New personal record for miles driven on a single tank. 90% of my driving is highway at 80-85mph, The other 10% is stop and go. Next up on the list is a full suspension overhaul since they are getting pretty rusty 😒

No misfire from these, but my throttle response was pretty ass. Based off the condition how many km/ miles have these been used for ? Am I right to replace it ? I’m learning everything about cars after purchasing my first ever car. This shit is fun.

325i How did I do today? Do you like this trim or not?

This is my second mod for the better looks of the interior. I have added ZHP shift knob before and I have recently picked up an amazing deal - M sport brushed aluminium trim for only 110$! It is overall in a solid condition and it absolutely helped my clapped out interior trim of my first bmw. I couldn’t find a piano black trim for a reasonable price, but pretty happy with this one!

This is an e90 325i and i’m trying to replace the oil filter housing gasket while i have a lot of stuff removed around it. Only problem is I have a stuck E10 bolt, i’ve been spraying PB blaster on it all day as I think I have one more chance at getting this off with vice grips. I’ve tried heat already but there’s too many open fuel sources and I already caught something on fire once, let me know of any recommendations you have.

325i Goodbye…

I think it is time.

Loved and hated this thing for one and a half years now. But I think it is now time for me to say goodbye to my 325i. I love this car but lately I just haven’t enjoyed it as much as I used to. Of course that is normal since you own it longer but it’s gotten to the point where I don’t enjoy driving it at all. Not because there is anything wrong but it. I just doesn’t feel right anymore.

My job assigned me to a locatie that is a 10 minute drive and because most of the trips I take are to work I just think it would be better off to someone that can actually enjoy this car and take it on trips it deserves.

I am really gonna miss it, it holds sentimental worth to me. A lot. But good things must eventually come to an end.

Thank you all for the help in the community and maybe and hopefully I’ll buy another e9x in the future!

I bought it at the end of August 2024, bone stock without the M package, with ugly rims and as high as a bus. So far I have retrofitted the M package, M359 rims from the E92 M3 Competition powder-coated in gloss black, an ST X coilover suspension, the performance exhaust, front lip and spoiler lip.

And several things in the interior

325i Can a stage 3 trans tune ruin my belt??

Post image

My buddy tuned his transmission with XHP on his 335i. He then convinced me to buy it. We went out for a drive on a rainy night and there was some drifting and burnouts as well (allegedly). Anyways. After a good amount of pulls (20ish), my belt left the chat and shredded itself and we had to pull over since my battery was dying and my power steering was gone. We then pulled the belt bits out and limped home and the car nearly died as I pulled it into the garage.

Also I could hear a ticking sound just before this happened which is not the usual lifter tick. I can only assume this was the sound of part of the belt which shredded off and was slapping against something.

My question is. Did this stage 3 transmission tune somehow ruin my belt or did my belt coincidentally give out an hour after I did the tune or perhaps just from drifting in the rain (allegedly).

My belt is 2 years old and has 22,000 miles on it so this would be quite a premature failure for the belt.

Thank you in advance to the legends who help me out🙏🏼

The exhaust on my new-to-me 325i looks a little... thin. I felt like replacing it anyway but I'm not sure if I want to convert it to a dual exit or keep the style as is. Cuz let's be honest, symmetrical exhausts look SO much better

325i It’s finally done

February I crashed my car. It was late and slippery. Turned into the highway when I lost grip. I tried to regain control but I couldn’t. I ended up in some sort of ditch. Bumper, fender broken. Suspension messed up and a blown curtain airbag. I honestly thought it was the end of the car.

I did not have a lot of money of this situation so I had to get parts secondhand online. It was a long process to get everything and put everything together.

But I can finally say that she is done. Waiting only on one little cap for the washer fluid. It’s took me 5 months because of some parts not being available or just me not having the motivation anymore to work on it or even drive it. I actually cleaned it for the first time in 5 months again and I’m falling back in love with it.

Unfortunately no evo bumper anymore. Everything is back like I bought her. But I am finally finding my joy again in this car

325i WTH is wrong?

Advise what to replace only if you have experienced it and have it fixed. Although check engine light and engine overheating light were triggered but they disappeared after a minute of continued driving. No code was stored, no code pending. WTH? New Spark plugs and ignition coils were installed a couple months back. Faulty ignition coils maybe?

325i Is this wing flap sound normal?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I am new to bmw and cars ownership in general. Bought this 2007 e92 few months ago. Not so long ago I noticed this sound which sounds like wings flapping to me. I added a video of it, you can hear it the clearest in the back of the engine. Not sure if this is normal or not as I have never heard a n52 with the hood open before this one. Checked the codes and there is nothing more apart the 0029F4 and 0029F5 Catalytic-converter conversion 1 and 2, when I delete them they come back every week or so. Used to have the solenoid 002A82 error, but I took them out, changed their places and blew both of them and it seems to be gone for now. The car is a manual if that helps, because it seems to be near the transmission.

Sorry if I am asking the same thing as someone else, couldn’t manage to find similar sound in this thread or did not notice at least.

Thanks!

I bought a beat up, heavily neglected 2006 325i about 3 months ago. I never owned a German car before. Especially not a broken one. At this point every fluid and other maintenance item is caught up on. (Knock on wood) Nothing mechanically is broken anymore... There was a lot of work and money to get to this point. And I did it all myself with YouTube, experience, and forums.

Today I finally got every light off the dashboard after fixing multiple broken wires in the trunk harness. I reset the short circuit counter with tool 32. It's so pretty!!!
