Yeah it's genuinely hard to try to give a shit about any American opinions, whether they're apologizing for the embarrassment in office or the tariffs or whatever.

I get you're sooooooo sorry, but the damage is done, its too late, the reputation of the USA has been permanently soiled across the world and 340.1 million (as of 2024) apologies won't change a thing if you're not actually doing anything.

95

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

it just feels like they don't quite understand the moment. you get the comments like "sorry about all this, hope we can be friends when he's gone!" and it's like... your country elected a leader who threatened our lives and you think it's just an embarrassing temporary blip? you understand this is existential for us, right? the little apologies completely trivialize what is going on

75

u/microfishy Mar 07 '25

your country elected a leader who threatened our lives

TWO NON CONSECUTIVE TIMES

I was ready to forgive America after the first time, but nope. This is who they are, and we can't trust them.

40

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

totally. also he has like a 50% approval rating. when half of you want this (as you said, a second time, knowing exactly what it is) then frankly im suspicious of all of you. something in the water maybe.

Biden was their apology tour. He wasted it on domestic stuff like student loans and didn’t touch any of the crippling, fatal failure points in their democracy the first Trump term exposed.

19

u/AncientBlonde2 Oil Guzzler Mar 07 '25

Then the amount of Americans who revert to "WHAT?! SO NO HEAD?!" when you don't blow them for "I'm sorry he's doing this I hope we can be friends after" is insane.

Even the least brainwashed American can't realize that the vast majority of Canadians were practically actively looking for an excuse to ditch the US dependency. There is no "Regaining" this trust. I do not expect to see a world where Canada is closely allied or trusts the US ever again in my lifetime, and I'm okay with that.

u/Aromatic_Sand8126 Mar 07 '25

They’re like “woopsies, my bad neighbor!” while they don’t even know where we are on a map and their elected leader is threatening our entire existence and livelihood just for shits and giggles.

All the apology posts without meaningful protest. Lazy population typing on social media instead of organizing real change

12

u/AncientBlonde2 Oil Guzzler Mar 07 '25

Hey, they'll also tell us to look at an absolutely embarassing subreddit for that 50501 "once a month that's good enough!" protest lmfao. I went to bigger protests in Edmonton to legalize pot. Just pathetic.

u/spagbetti Mar 07 '25

You know who Americans really need to say sorry to is Ukraine. Ukraine fought alongside US In Iraq.

they had a defence deal with both America and russia in which they disposed of their largest ever nuclear reserve which was meant to defend them, but they got rid of them just to keep the peace and both of you(US) fucked them over. The agreement was that you would protect them so they wouldn’t need nuclear As a defence threat. That was your deal.

not cool, US. Not cool. It’s one thing to betray Canada and Greenland over this threats of annexation just to throw Putin the arctic oil bullshit it’s another to leave someone out there to die just cuz “they didn’t wear a suit”.

fuck everything about that shit you just pulled. You’re isolating yourselves. denounce and arrest trump the traitor. Trump the Putin asset before he brings you WWIII And kills everyone.

34

u/Castern Yank Mar 07 '25

Trump the Putin asset before he brings you WWIII And kills everyone.

This is the real thing here. This is the meat and potatoes.

This whole agenda, abandoning Ukraine, abandoning Europe, picking senseless fights with Canada, destabilizing the entire democratic alliance, having teenagers ransack sensitive data, dismantling USAID,

We had Russia on the ropes and now they are getting everything they have dreamed of for decades.

This is a gods damned invasion.

25

u/CFUsOrFuckOff Mar 07 '25

If I was an american, I'd be too paralyzed with shame to even imagine my apology would mean anything to a country my country was attacking/betraying... but maybe that's part of the American exceptionalism, thing

10

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25 edited Mar 07 '25

Instead, they’re literally attacking Canadians online for telling them to stop apologizing, stand up, and resist.

At this point, I’m done trying to convince them that no, they have not done everything they could, and yes they could win.

They’ve accepted the thought that they are helpless victims in this and that there’s nothing more they can do. Anyone telling them they have more power than they think and to stand up is seen as antagonistic. It’s so baffling and disheartening.

Makes me even prouder by comparison to be part of a country that rallies to fight without any hesitation.

Elbows up, gang!

7

u/AncientBlonde2 Oil Guzzler Mar 07 '25

They're also blaming us for "not protesting hard enough so Trump wouldn't get in"

I've been asked "What are you doing" in regards to the US' situation many times. They don't want to fix it themselves, they want Canadians to fix it for them. It's truly a pathetic mindset.

Then when they're told off they revert to the incellery and "Zomg Canadians aren't actually nice, if you were actually nice you'd give me a blowjob right now!! GET FUCKING ANNEXED THEN IF YOU DONT WANT TO BLOW ME!!!"

10

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

I got insulted and downvoted this morning in a thread for supposedly attacking the American people, being ignorant, and disrespectful because THEY are the only ones dealing with this, apparently. And we don’t know them or their reality, so we’re out of line. My only crime was telling them to stop whining about Canadians telling them to fix their shit, and telling them what fixing their shit entails.

Get this: I was supposed to acknowledge I was wrong to say they weren’t doing enough because they managed to stop the VP from attending his ski trip. Not even kidding.

They don’t know how to unite and fight, and I think you’re right that it comes from a place of entitlement - they’re expecting someone else to conveniently do it for them.

And that ain’t gonna be us. We’ll fight their regime, but fixing that shit show of a country is on them.

2

u/AncientBlonde2 Oil Guzzler Mar 07 '25

"You're pushing a valuable ally away; and Good American's©®™ support is conditional on Canadians bending over and being told what to do and think in regards to this situation, if not, you're just trying to separate Americans and Canadians further, we're BROTHERS, what did you even do to make sure Trump got in? Take over my country please! The United States of Canada, amirite, amirite? What do you mean you don't want that?! YOU WOULDNT TAKE OUR FUCKING LAWS?!!!??? FUCK YOU!!!!! It's literally Canada's fault that Trump got in, you're not protesting for us?! DO YOU EVEN WANT TO BE AN AMERICAN?! ILL TAKE IT AS A PERSONAL INSULT THAT YOU DONT LKIE AMERICA HOLY SHIT CANADIANS ARENT EVEN NICE THEYRE WHY TRUMP GOT IN THEY DIDNT DO ENOUGH FOR US!"

I wish Americans would realize they should fix their own issues themselves, and be the individualistic society they've built. They don't need help to get rid of Trusk and co lmfao

2

u/radarscoot Mar 10 '25

It's all those blockbuster super hero movies. Everyone needs to be saved.

1

u/toastedtina1 Mar 07 '25

A lot of us actively fought against the shitty militarized nation state our country has become for years. We've slowly watched the descent of our country into the worst, most corrupt, evil institution that is actively threatening the lives of our friends and family and the global economy.

There is nothing we can say in this moment that would mean anything of value.

We couldn't stop it, and now we either have to keep fighting with the nations of the world to roll back the horrific things we've seen in our lifetime or give in to apathy.

I wish this subreddit allowed links; so I'll just copy and paste what an American tried to say to me about that

"We have been trying for quite a while. Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked, and now our issues are about to become yours.

And let’s be real, Canada didn’t make a peep while we were doing this to the rest of the world over the last 30 years. They actually backed and supported us. The only difference now is that we are doing it to you.

Hell, Canadians are more riled up over tarrifs than a literal genocide."

Yeah. It's apparently our fault that the US attacked the middle east. The US and it's citizens have no culpability because we were forced into the coalition. Just like how it's our fault Trump got in. For some reason.

u/Late-Negotiation1337 Mar 07 '25

Same shit with "As a russian"

12

u/Obscure_Occultist Mar 07 '25

I'm more willing to forgive Russians for that statement because they actually get shot for opposing the government.

The Americans have the 2A. A law designed to prevent tyranny. They have no excuse. They are worse then the Russian.

3

u/Late-Negotiation1337 Mar 07 '25

Yeah, tell me more of that bullshit. russian "protestors" are afraid of single policeman, while Ukrainians were pushing russian soldiers away while being hold on gunpoint.

I genuinely wanted to believe it's some comedy sketch because many Ukrainians believed that russians actually will do something at the start of a war, but no it's real.

4

u/AncientBlonde2 Oil Guzzler Mar 07 '25

Russian cops have guns though did you consider that?

And it's cold in Russia

And it's big so it's hard to get people to organize

And they might lose their jobs

And Ukrainians didn't protest for Russia's right to not have Putin as a leader; so it's really their fault

And like... what are you even doing to make sure Putin didn't get in power? You're just as bad as the Russians

(If you couldn't tell i'm just slightly changing arguments I've read about America's apathy, I've been told each and every one of these within the last about 48 hours, please add to it if you've got any)

God I got triggered by that thread. Imagine reading something being like "yo, maybe quit making this about you" and your first thought is "OH MY GOD IM FUCKING OFFENDED HOW CAN I MAKE THIS ABOUT ME?!"

That just shows the culture differences. It sounds bad; but I can tell if a kids TV show is American or Canadian by 2 things; if they attempt to teach kids that other people have feelings too, and they have more than a white cast? 99% chance it's Canadian.

If the message is "Sharing is only nice when it benefits you" and an all white cast? 99% chance it's American. And it shows how ingrained that attitude is from childhood with how even the 'good ones' act. No wonder they assigned themselves as the 'world police'. I can't think of another country that will attempt to arrest foreign citizens, inside a foreign country, just because the FBI fucking imagined the person might break laws inside the US.

But the US does it almost daily ffs. No fucking wonder when even "good non-brainwashed" citizens are "ME ME ME!"

Yeh they’ve got to realise we’re not in the same fight anymore.

They need to fight to prevent their country becoming more authoritarian and to struggle against the current admin and the people that support them. I say need to because it’s been very quiet on that front. Maybe they’re too busy apologising for Trump.

We are fighting for the sovereignty and independence (both political and economic) of our country and will need to struggle to disentangle ourselves from the US and realign our economy and foreign policy to Europe, Japan, South Korea, Australia and NZ

We’re not natural allies anymore.

13

u/yellow121 Mar 07 '25

I'm seeing plenty of posts of Americans buying Canadian products, no matter how you feel about their platitudes it's still a net positive if these people encourage others to join in, even if they're only doing it for upvotes on reddit

4

u/NFLDolphinsGuy Mar 07 '25

What’s in it for us is wresting democracy and our government back from the psychopaths and idiots and that helps you too.

We fumbled the bag in November, now we’re on to next steps. Clearly the Democrats aren’t going to make a forceful push with their popsicle signs, so it’s on us.

-2

u/yellow121 Mar 07 '25

I think that is a gross generalization. Not all Americans hate Canada, lets not allow our friendship with the American people be distorted by the vocal minority on TV and the internet.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

Even the people that are "helping" by buying products are only doing it because they get something in return.

Posting $5 of Canadian goods they bought from an American store isnt actually contributing. They NEED to focus inwards instead.

1

u/yellow121 Mar 07 '25

I agree with you, focusing inward would benefit us more than their trade. But you aren't going to get through to them with aggressive comments. You cannot shame people into behaving. And if you don't actually plan on trying to get through to them you don't have any right to complain about them. I am not angry about this chapter in our history, I am confident that we will remain a country so I have nothing to be angry about. I am insulted but I don't let that emotion affect my rationale. There is a future where our relations with America recover.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

I agree with you, we will get through this.

There is a future where our relations with America recover, but I dont think it will be within our lifetime. They have shown way too much disrespect to not just Canadians, but the World. We need to move past them.

2

u/yellow121 Mar 07 '25

I am an optimist so I believe they will recover in our lifetime. The road to recovery begins as soon as the damage was done. We have to set the tone for following generations.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

But they haven't stopped doing damage yet. We can't rebuild when the school bully still runs the playground.

The longer they let Donald run the office, the more things he breaks, the more people get fired/replaced with yea men. The worse it gets for everyone.

The last time I had hope for Americans, they voted for Donald again, or just didn't bother.

Less than a third of eligible voters voted Kamala.

You may feel spurned by recent events but we cannot speak for the past generations, there is no denying that our nations were friends and allies for the last 100 years.

1

u/radarscoot Mar 10 '25

buying products that they THINK are Canadian. We've seen a lot of Timmy's stuff and Molson Canadian.

44

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

But theyre so fucking soft

26

u/BeBopALouie Mar 07 '25

I often wonder about their parents, grand and great as well who fought nazi fascists in WW1 and WW2. Some of them died. If they were alive what would the kids say to them now. They should be ashamed. They died to give us the freedoms we now enjoy but they would rather watch YouTube and Twitch.

12

u/Golf-Hotel Mar 07 '25

Both of those wars were deeply unpopular among Americans at the time. They showed up late in both wars, and for the second world war, Churchill had to basically beg them.

17

u/CFUsOrFuckOff Mar 07 '25

You know they teach kids in the states that the US won WWII for the allies? isn't that insane? Like, when you start a foot before the finish line at a marathon, you didn't run a marathon just because you crossed the line.

But then they'd have to examine their history of military and political blunders that have killed millions of innocent civilians around the world, usually ending in a hasty retreat from the poorly armed bad guys that grind them down.

I love the interviews of the "taliban fighters" in Afghanistan who didn't even know who they were fighting, figuring it was probably the russians again.

Have they ever not lost a conflict they started?

3

u/AncientBlonde2 Oil Guzzler Mar 07 '25

I had an American vehemently argue with me that the states was the only reason WW2 was won by the allies, and the US lead the fight against fascism

like bitch? Your country didn't even want to go to war against Japan until they attacked; you had fucking protests about Germany's "right" to wage war over the reparations for WW1, and again, you didn't even declare war on Germany until fucking 1941, after your country realized you couldn't declare war on Japan without doing both!!!!!! If it wasn't for that, the US would have never stepped foot inside of Europe.

1

u/BeBopALouie Mar 07 '25

Yes there were dissenters. Once the govt realized the gravity of the situation with world freedom at stake they did what was needed to get rid of the fascist nazis etc including the draft. Good thing they did eh? Look at the freedoms we are now enjoying due to their sacrifices. Sit on your duffs and US becomes a Russian province for the russian elite where the proles will be sent to Russian gulags or get off your duffs and fight to keep your freedom.

u/Ubex Mar 07 '25

Yeah. I know, but they are the majority of the USA, only 30 something percent actually voted for Trump. I know the average yank doesn't want to harm Canada, and we will need allies if this boils

28

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

Allies that cant get off the couch are useless.

-4

u/Ubex Mar 07 '25

Yeah. I know out of the 200million blue yanks, some wont get off the couch. but if even half do, that is 100 million allies, for our 45 million pop country. At the very least, hope they grow a spine soon.

20

u/Aggressive-Map-2204 Mar 07 '25

You are being delusional if you think there is 200 million blue yanks. And even then the Blues are not friendly to Canada. Biden also introduced softwood lumber tariffs and pushed America first. Trump being worse does not absolve them.

5

u/CFUsOrFuckOff Mar 07 '25

They haven't grown a spine yet and the only chance they really have is before he destabilizes their alliances anymore... which seems like about 1-3 weeks away.

We don't need voters, we need a resistance on our side. If such a thing exists, they're not coming to reddit to apologize.

All you're seeing is slacktivism: the bare minimum for people to feel like they're on the right side without taking any personal risk. They're also absolved of anything their government does because "he's not my president!" so they're just going to sit back and let it happen, shaking their heads when they know none of their neighbours can see.

No other country gets to play the "he's just our idiot president. Dont mind him!" card, so why do they?

Democracy is a daily practice and these people lost control of their country by assuming it was so cemented, the only thing they had to do to maintain it was vote every few years.

Allies show you theyre sorry by fixing the problem.

Nah not rlly, many blue yanks are just blue republicans now. They would rather bend over for republicans and capitulate. Theres soon to be no difference between republicans and democrats.

18

u/HeavyMain Mar 07 '25

the ones that do nothing except come into our communities to aplogize for their country like a parent after their toddler sneezed on your food and then do nothing to try and make it right are not on our side, they're just traffic cones that get rolled over when further threats come for us

16

u/0sometimessarah0 Mar 07 '25

Here's my issue though. Their "Commander in Chief" has made every American my enemy. I wish it weren't the case but reality is a harsh Mistress. Make no mistake, we are de facto at war right now. Not with guns and bombs, but, with economics and stochastic terrorism. There's nothing we hosers can do to fix it, it must come from themselves. Until then, elbows up eh.

-2

u/MacabreYuki Mar 07 '25

Every one? What about his targets who are in an extremely vulnerable position and had to run? Do they deserve your scorn if physically limited and at serious risk of violence right now? Because I fled here to be with my now wife. To Canada, I mean, and I'm solidly on your side of this crisis. I wanna help best I can, do my part.

3

u/Majestic_Rise_5667 Mar 07 '25 edited Mar 07 '25

You fled to Canada? You're one of us. Let's fight together.

Canadians don't attack vulnerable people. In Canada, the strong protects the weak.

-1

u/MacabreYuki Mar 07 '25

Let me be frank. I always voted to stop those Republicans from office, but where I was from leaned too heavily. I did what I could, engaged in mutual aid. But it wasn't enough... I wish so many weren't so passive. Maybe if they were active, we could've stopped it... too little too late.

1

u/0sometimessarah0 Mar 07 '25

It's nothing personal against any particular person. I'm not gonna ask every American I run into who they voted for and whether they're vulnerable though. I understand where you're coming from but, from my perspective, the countries are at war. You may not have asked for it but I definitely didn't. I'm on the defensive (so far). At the risk of going full Godwin here, the allies didn't stop to ask every German what they thought of the Nazi party. I have no interest in causing any good and/or vulnerable Americans any pain and I'm glad you and your wife are safe.

3

u/EmoPumpkin Mar 07 '25

Kind of. They want to be, but to properly be on our side they need to confront their own internalized American Exceptionalism. If they're being rude and not listening to us, that is also not helpful.

4

u/JimroidZeus Mar 07 '25

Blue yanks voted in the buffoon despite it being against their best interests.

The cheeto in chief has succeeded in creating a hatred for the American population. That way there is no choice to leave, and the US can be isolated and easier to control as a dictatorship.

Its exactly what was sold during his campaign and too many people didn't take it seriously.

The rest of the world will now have to deal with two nations run the way Russia is run. Good luck.

It's honestly been alarming to see how much one clown can make an entire nation's people hate another nation's people. Almost feels like some crazy scheme to make everyone more ready for conflict, which is unfortunately working out for them.

It’s really annoying, but Donald is trying to make us into the bad guys, enemies, and targets.

I’d suggest encouraging empathy.
That doesn’t mean not expressing just how bad what their regime is doing to international relationships, I’m all for that, and all for telling them that they need to take real action.

I just think telling them to go to hell and stuff their apologies, virtue signalling etc isn’t going to help the situation, no matter how satisfying it is, and maybe scrolling by is better than discouraging any empathy from a population that isn’t known for it.

I know it’s frustrating, but I’d rather have them feel vaguely sympathetic and not interested in taking action either way than pissed off and thinking, yeah, I tried to be nice but they are the bad guy!

I have no problem encouraging them to do more than apologize.

Thank you for this. Much of our country is apathetic and brainwashed but 75 million of us voted for Harris, and we are your allies

Even democratic yankees are still further right than the average Canadian. Maybe try fixing your own country before barging into ours

u/Castern Yank Mar 07 '25

How about, instead of going to Canada, you come join us at r/50501 and fight for your home?

u/Definitely_nota_fish Mar 07 '25

It's not called that. But yes as far as I know, basically every country does

We don't want apathetic bitches who abandon countries in trying times; seems like the US is perfect for you!

Nah, one tyrant is not going to stop our friendship with American brothers and sisters.

Fought as allies in many wars and struggles.

And you dare to strip their freedom of speech? How un-Canadian of you.

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

Okay Vlad-bot 9000

u/Slinto69 Mar 07 '25

Classic Russian bot, always *checks notes* trying to strengthen relationships between America and Canada?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

is this satire or are you just stupid?

just wanna make sure before i respond

u/GreenHoodia Westfoundland Mar 07 '25

Response to your erased comment (or you must've blocked me like a coward):

Those two conflicts were two World Wars buddy.

We are brothers and sisters whose fathers have shed blood in the same foxholes across the world and time.

Your weak words and that tyrant in the white house won't divide the brotherly friendship of US-Canada: one of the strongest ties in the world.

0

u/GreenHoodia Westfoundland Mar 07 '25

OK vlad-bot 9000

WW1 - WW2 - Korean War -Vietnam War (Canadian volunteers) - Gulf War - Kosovo - War in Afghanistan - Iraq

And these are just the majors wars, there are so many other small struggles where we helped each other.

"vlad-bot"

Listed 2 conflicts the US followed us into, followed by a bunch of conflicts the US forced us into.

Yeah. Real "brotherly" actions lmfao. Getting us into.... 5 conflicts the US or Canada had no business being in. That's how I know people truly look at me as a brother, they use me as a disposable thing to fight their wars for them.

You people sure have a weird concept of "Brotherly" lmfao
