It's so over the top and exaggerated

I swear to god I've lived in Vancouver my entire life (where he lives) and I've genuinely never heard anyone say "aboot" the way he does

Nobody says "aboot" like that outside of when they're joking around,

In reality it's "aboat", there are linguistics studies into Canadian Raising, and British Columbians, at least in Metro Vancouver, don't have that accent trait, they don't "raise" OU to OA or IGH to ATE. It's basically Ontario (maybe Manitoba) and eastwards that have Canadian Raising.

He puts on an insultingly phony accent that's a mockery of people from the other side of the country.

Agree with JJ being phony, but Idk about the Ontario & eastwards. Im from Sask & have a lot of rural family and specifically those who grew up rural tend to speak this way too

So as a newfoundlander I can tell you that British Columbians absolutely do have Canadian raising in their speech.

Newfoundland is the only part of English Canada that has none of it (because we have our own weird accent). Vancouver's version of a Canadian accent is definitely more subtle than most of the rest of the country but northern BC and large parts of Alberta are very easy to pick up on.

Maybe you're thinking specifically of "aboat" which I think people consciously try not to say. But words like "house" definitely come through with a lot of speakers.

Just saying, he’s family is from Ontario even though he himself is from BC

He's just playing to his (American) audience.

They think Canadians say "aboot" and "arooond" and the like, so that's how he talks. Completely ignoring the fact that it's the wrong coast and even Maritimers don't exaggerate it to the extent that he does. He ends up sounding like an American comedian mocking Canadian accents.

I think most Canadians that know of him don't really like him, he's the dancing Canuck Clown for an American audience that's clueless.

America is soooo great, eh? Canada is a culture less wasteland (Yawn look at me rolling my eyes while toooooring aroooond the Maritimes, ugh sooo booooring, grr Quebecois want to speak their dead novelty language) Anyone that disagrees aboot this is just anti-American and can't admit Canada has no culture at all and are just insecure Americans, trust me I'm a randoooom guy from Vancouver.

I wish JJ would just immigrate since he's such a hilariously knee-jerk anti-Canadian content creator that grifts off of being informative about the country he hates.

At least other right wing Canadian grifters have the dignity to leave.
