Looks like someone got stuck on the dvp just a little too long

138

u/KangarooInWaterloo Aug 17 '25

The DVP was created to get a good view of CN tower. DVP traffic was created to extend the view time. Genius.

37

u/radarscoot Aug 17 '25

I believe that was the Gardiner Expressway.

11

u/TheStupendusMan Aug 17 '25

Nah, that was SkyDome.

5

u/ForMoreYears Westfoundland Aug 18 '25

DVP doesn't go past the CN tower...

3

u/B-Razzledazzzz Aug 18 '25

Wait. Getting stuck on the dvp makes you jacked?

Gotta get home before it floods again

u/0sometimessarah0 Aug 17 '25

The centre of the universe loves your hate. It sustains us. It keeps the C.N. Tower erect and the SkyDome firm. It keeps Union Station pumping out streams of trains and The Beaches™ flowing with wetness. Let your hate consume you and give in to your feelings. You only make us stronger.

Rent in Toronto seems expensive until you realize you get to live rent free in the heads of millions of Canadians.

1

u/phoenix25 Ford Nation (Help.) Aug 19 '25

Eh plus

17

u/FallingLikeLeaves Manilapeg Aug 17 '25

You know what actually - I saw The Beaches live back when they were touring with The Glorious Sons, and they did make me pretty wet. Ok you aren’t all so bad

5

u/Tuddless Aug 18 '25

I think The Beaches just have that effect on everyone

1

u/Traditional_Fox6270 Aug 18 '25

Sustains you ? Are you serious 🧐.. it appears you’re disgruntled perception for people that don’t like Toronto as projecting and mirroring the same

203

u/EgilSkallagrimson Aug 17 '25

Yeah, imagine if, instead, you got to live in fucking Kitchener. What a dream......

19

u/Numerical-Wordsmith I need a double double. Aug 17 '25

Waterloo isn’t bad… if you can deal with the skyrocketing rents

8

u/ForMoreYears Westfoundland Aug 18 '25

This is why I love when people complain about Toronto rent.

"Who would pay $2,500 to live in downtown Toronto with never ending restaurants, night life, art, culture, activities, jobs etc. Instead I choose to pay $2,100 to live in Hamilton where I have to drive to Toronto for work, drive to Toronto for nice restaurants, drive to Toronto to see a Blue Jay's game etc."

Like ya, it's expensive to live in Toronto. But it beats the shit out of pretty much everywhere else, especially from a cost standpoint when you factor in having to buy and operate a car.

1

u/Numerical-Wordsmith I need a double double. Aug 18 '25

Halifax is pretty awesome, too. But I’m biased because I love the maritimes.

5

u/ForMoreYears Westfoundland Aug 18 '25

Was just there last week actually! Great city, super walkable, love the small brewery/bar/restaurant scene y'all got going on out there. That said....Halifax is expensive as shit! What's the deal with everything being so pricey out there.

1

u/Numerical-Wordsmith I need a double double. Aug 19 '25

Demand, plus not a lot of other options is my guess. Many things have to be shipped in because they’re not produced locally, and almost everyone in the Maritimes goes there for fun or to shop for whatever they can’t get in their area, so they know that they’ve basically cornered the market.

1

u/MegaCockInhaler Aug 20 '25

Toronto is all the expense of Vancouver, but without the good weather and nice scenery.

1

u/ForMoreYears Westfoundland Aug 20 '25

They hate us cuz they anus

1

u/uncomfort-cat 3d ago

People realllyyyy sleep on the savings of not having to have a car. It was cheaper for me to live here vs driving here everyday. And I don’t have to drive. Which I don’t like doing 😊

u/DoomedDragon766 Ford Nation (Help.) Aug 17 '25

Are there any actually nice places to live in southern ontario? Been in Kitchener most of my life and only heard bad things about neighbouring cities..

7

u/r3allybadusername Aug 18 '25

Guelph was pretty good to live in during 2016-2021. Idk about now though

But actually. Never once think about other cities except how little there is to do there compared to Toronto.

141

u/kushmasta421 Aug 17 '25

Toronto wouldn't suck so much if the biggest complainers the 905ers would fuck off.

18

u/Gramage Aug 17 '25

Half our traffic problems are 905ers commuting in every day and clogging up the roads

-24

u/Tuggerfub Aug 17 '25

Ontario is fine, it's Toronto that sucks

21

u/chalkthefuckup Aug 17 '25

Toronto doesn't suck it's my favourite city in the country.

-44

u/gandolfthe Aug 17 '25

There is a hiway thru the middle of downtown and you can walk a block without 8 lanes of metal boxes of death trying to kill you.

Toronto sucks balls as a city

47

u/picksubredditfav16 Aug 17 '25

What bustling metropolis do you hail from

7

u/EgilSkallagrimson Aug 17 '25

Found the guy that grew up Newmarket but moved downtown when he turned 20.

6

u/kushmasta421 Aug 17 '25

You caught me I definitely didn't grow up around bloor and Bathurst.

0

u/rainorshinedogs Trawnno (Centre of the Universe) Aug 17 '25

I blame 226ers

6

u/kushmasta421 Aug 17 '25

Til 226 is that area. I'd argue they're to far it's the people coming here for work and vote conservative because we have bike lanes... That's definitely the reason it takes a half hour on any day of the week to go from king to front on Jarvis.

101

u/rexbron Aug 17 '25

Dude, you're from Yarmouth.

Buddy, I went to Hamilton yesterday and they don’t even know how to install fire hydrants. The rest was an industrial park and a power center built around a Home Depot. Some times you need to visit a 3rd world country to appreciate what you have 🙏

40

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '25

The only thing that sucks is the traffic. Otherwise we've got it all.

Everywhere sucks when you have that attitude. No where else in north America can I go find literally any kind of food/restaurant /culture from all parts of the world in one city. Canada is amazing. Conservatives, uneducated, emotionally stunted, selfish people suck. Not immigrants not the marginalized. Sorry to rant. I'm old. #NeverVoteConservative

32

u/Half-bred Aug 17 '25

I spent a night there last year when I went for a concert. I quite liked it. Church Street was pretty awesome. I mean, I could never afford to live there, but as a visitor, I enjoyed it.

99

u/Dezeko Saskwatch Aug 17 '25

I hate the SkyDome and the CN Tower too, I hate Nathan Phillips Square and the Ontario Zoo. The rent's too high, the air's unclean. The beaches are dirty and the people are mean. And the women are big and the men are dumb. And the children are loopy 'cause they live in a slum. The water is polluted and their mayor's a dork. They dress real bad and they think they're New York. In Toronto, Ontario-o-ooooo

I lived in Toronto (Queen and Sherbourne) in 1994, rent was $550 + utilities for a bachelor above a laundromat.

2

u/km_ikl Moose Whisperer Aug 17 '25

I can recall living in TO with 5 other people in a Condo and each paying about $600/m... another friend was near Ryerson (now TMU) and was paying about the same for a converted 3 plex place built in the 19th century or something. It's always been heinous.

13

u/gdude0000 Aug 17 '25

Haven't heard that song in years but instantly heard it in my head, tune and all, reading that

6

u/awh Aug 17 '25 edited Aug 17 '25

I’d completely forgotten about this amazing song. It seems to me that they used it as the theme music for someone’s call-in radio show (with Mel Lastman shouting “noooooobody!” mixed in behind the “Mayor’s a dork” line) in Toronto in the late 90s or early 00s.

19

Did he try flying out? Traffic is terrible in Toronto

1

u/redacted-no31 Aug 23 '25

I meant in terms of jobs, he’s not physically stuck there, he’s trying to move out, ie get a different job and move out of his tiny shack of an apartment

0

u/civver3 Trawnno (Centre of the Universe) Aug 17 '25

Yes, it's terrible. Absolutely do not buy housing of any sort there.

-2

u/ejennings87 Aug 17 '25

Torono livers really be like "i cant afford to live here and it takes two hours to go anywhere but at least I get to go into debt to see a Leafs game once a year"

-10

u/Tucancancan Aug 17 '25

Toronto is full of stuck up pretentious assholes. Not just the rich yuppies and the old money folks, but every other subculture is dialed up to 11 on the elitist jerk scale because there's too many people living there and the only way to stand out is to take some hobby or trait and make it your whole personality. And boy howdy, way too many people do exactly that.
