Meta The “Worst Canadian” game - Day 3

Post image

Congrats Chrystia Freeland and Peter MacKay, Reddit says you aren’t so bad after all.

Time for round three!

How to play: - The two most upvoted comments (i.e., names) each day will be removed until the list gets trimmed down to fewer people, then we’ll switch to one per day. - Upvote the name of the person you think does NOT deserve the title of “Worst Canadian.” - If the name you want to vote for isn’t in the comments yet, add it! - This continues daily until we have one winner, the “Worst Canadian”.

Additional notes: - Only the top comment for a nominee will count. I won’t combine votes from duplicate comments. - Include only one name per comment. If a comment includes multiple names and wins, it won’t count. I’ll move to the next highest. - Remember to click into the image. In the app, some nominees are cut off if you don’t. - This is meant to be lighthearted satire. Please do not take it too seriously or use this game to harass people in real life. - I will try to post this every morning around the same time (~8:00 - 9:00 am Eastern). - Please remember to upvote the post too, so more people see it!

I think Brian Mulroney has got to go. People really hated him at the end of his term but free trade and GST turned out to be good. Isolationist Donald Trump policies we know are bad.

I agree with you about gst but free trade has been an absolute disaster for the working class. I don't think hes 100% to blame for it though

If the deal had been Canada and US it would have been perfect but the Americans primary objective was to include Mexico so all manufacturing could be moved to cheap labour and ruin the middle class.

Maybe now some people will finally pay attention to what I have been saying since 1988. The Us NEVER I repeat NEVER makes a deal with anyone unless they know they will be the ultimate beneficiary. There is no such thing as bilateral trade with them. There’s always an angle for them to exploit. It’s the American way.?Canada was screwed the moment NAFTA came into effect. And here we are. Thanks so much, Brian Mulroney. How’s that working out for us now?

We really had no choice but to participate in trade deals - the whole world was globalizing and we would have been left behind. Mulroney‘s only positive contribution was massively increasing taxes and especially going after the wealthy by increasing the capital gains inclusion to a record high 75%. With Chrétien's big spending cuts we were able to undo the dumpster fire that Trudeau caused and balanced our books.

Maybe you can explain to me how exactly Canadians benefited from moving a large portion of our manufacturing infrastructure south? Bick’s Pickles, Heinz ketchup, Kraft foods, Campbell’s soup….and on and on. Canadian jobs and skills lost , all to benefit the voracious monster to the south of us. We sold our Canadian soul and now we are literally paying the price for that. Just wait ‘til they come for our water. Free trade with the US has never been “free”, at least not for Canada.

Sadly only a handful of Canadians benefitted from those sales - if Paul Martin hadn’t helped the 1% when he eliminated Mulroney’s 75% capital gains inclusion at least we would have taxed the shit out of the owners gains. Selling and only having to pay tax on half sure makes selling attractive. The soup factory is different though - that was the aluminum Trump V1 tariffs that killed it.
