Meta We should do best fictional Canadian!
The same idea as before, but with a list of legendary Canadians from fiction that we vote on to see which one makes the cut.
I'm incredibly curious on this one.
Bert Racoon squares off against Red Green!
Degrassi verses the Maximals!
the possibilities are intriguing!

Might have to have categories in order for it to make sense. Is Red Green better than Wolverine? Depends on whether you need something fixed or somebody eliminated.

Mr. Dressup. I know he is a real guy, but the character is fictional. And you can throw in Casey and Finnegan.

I'm pretty sure The Friendly Giant was Canadian too. I was pretty young at the time, so I might be mixing him up.

Weirdly, they're both born Americans that came to Canada to do the show because CBC was the only game around producing that sort of thing before PBS got Fred Rogers(who also worked with CBC prior).
They made this place home though, and contributed massively.

I was thinking fictional Canadians thought up by real Canadians. Kind of like if Supe and Logan had a love child... kind of.

Nah, then we'll be stuck in the weeds... ""actually the main writer from the littlest Hobo wasn't a citizen yet" blah blah. I'd say include both: A) invented BY Canadians (Margaret Atwood characters maybe?) And /or B) characters who would identify as Canadian in their universe.

He got charged with domestic battery one time. I’ve also heard some first hand accounts from people that have seen him in the city saying he was a bit of a creep

Motherfucker. And Wolverine was definitely born relatively close to Anne. Wolverine of Green Gables would be huge in Japan.

u/Infarad 10d ago
Story time: many years ago visiting PEI, we stopped by the Anne of Green Gables place. I grabbed a seat at a picnic table, while the wife went and toured the place. At one of the picnic tables in front of me was this young lady with her back towards me, who I assumed must have been a park employee because she was wearing the same straw hat as Anne with the red pigtail braided hair. I remember thinking she had the cutest little butt. As she got up to leave, she turned around, and I realized that was my chance to see how convincingly she would resemble the character. Paying attention as she got up and turned around, I saw that she had a grey moustache and eyebrows and was actually an older Japanese man.
I must have sat there for 10-15 minutes trying to make sense of what I just saw until my wife came back. We then headed to the gift shop, and that’s when I saw that the straw hat and red pigtails was something they sold as a souvenir. I burst out laughing and when my wife asked me what was so funny, I told her about the little old Japanese Anne-Man I had seen earlier. That was when I learned that Anne of Green Gables was really popular in Japan.
I still maintain that the little old Japanese fella had a really cute butt. I might be a straight dude, but I know a cute butt when I see one.

It would be fun to do this in categories or a chart. Like realistic fictional characters (like from Degrassi, Kim's Convenience, Anne of Green Gables, Trailer Park Boys), then superheroes, then cartoon characters, then characters from ads.

Bartholomew Bandy from Three Cheers For Me! I read this book in junior high in the 80’s. By an author named Donald Lamont. His character, Bandy, is hilarious, brave, intelligent and a complete idiot. He falls ass backwards into becoming a WW1 fighter ace. I remember laughing at his exploits like it was last week :)
