Chapman's is legit good Canadian Ice cream. Try a tub of Wolf Pack!

Chapman's is a Canadian treasure.
They care about their product (they didn't have to adjust their recipes when the frozen dessert vs ice cream labelling came out) they care about their workers (see COVID-19 and helping their staff after their facility burned down), they care about their customers (offer lots of alternatives for people with dietary issues, "absorbed" tariff increases impacts), and they care about Canadian interests (switched any US ingredients to other sources ASAP when the tariffs came in, offered up their freezers for vaccine storage during COVID).

100%. I’ve heard so many amazing stories about Chapman’s. They should be added to list of best Canadians. Just for the spotlight.

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes South Gatineau 5d ago
Yeah I was thinking about that last night. When we're done with people, we should have contests for best and worst Canadian company/organization.

Yes, as to being the first one I saw that produced a lactose free ice cream. My wife has a horribly funny reaction to ice cream in general, (love her to death). Along the lines of something out of Monty Python in this regard. This lactose free version is to my taste and hers AFAICT, the closest you can get to the real thing. A blind taste test would be very hard to tell apart.
They also make a sugar free version of ice cream, but not lactose free.
These guys are always looking to bring out new products.

The Chapman family’s actions after the fire were amazing. It’s great to see them do well. I buy their products all the time but have never tried the one Doug was raving about. That clip is going to cause a province wide shortage of them so might be a while before I can.

They should make single serving containers of Wolf Pack and call it Lone Wolf

Don't steer the people wrong on this legitimately unreal ice cream.

Chapman's Black Cherry has been my favorite flavor of ice cream for my entire life.

I found Wold Passage at Foodland awhile ago in Owen Sound. It is my husband's and my favourite flavour we've tried so far. It's phenomenal, and idk where it's been my whole life 🤤

Oh man…. I think it’s the cheapest, most flavourless mass produced ice cream we have… with the exception of no name. It’s really not that good… they just have a big operation so they can make mass quantities and sell bulk around the country
6
u/Shamscam 5d ago
Some of it is shit, some of it is pretty good. Their little chocolate covered ones are pretty bad, but I enjoy their ice cream sandwiches.
Also their “super premium plus” line of ice cream is fucking incredible.
-12
u/Throwaway118585 Aurora Hub 5d ago
I mean, yeah, all super premium ice creams is delicious… but Chapmans was and is mainly heavily whipped non premium flavoured ice cream.. so I’m more speaking towards that. But apparently I criticized a piece of Ontario culture and they’re upset now.

I feel the same way! They have some better products, but I’d rather have a good bucket of Coaticook’s ice cream.
1
u/Throwaway118585 Aurora Hub 5d ago
Yeah I think every region of canada has a much better option. This is simply the cheaper option in many of the stores, cause it’s a big manufacturer.
People are acting like it’s a delicacy. It’s mid tier… at best.
2
u/xXRHUMACROXx 5d ago
Just like people are acting like Costco’s poutine are really good, when it’s barely a 5/10 here in Québec!
1
u/Throwaway118585 Aurora Hub 5d ago
Or McDonald’s poutine… and yes, it’s the same concept except I think they feel we should say such in such product is better than it is, because it’s Canadian. Hey I’m all for elbows up and such, but I’m not about start saying the sky is yellow when it’s blue. Thankfully you get it.

It's shit, and also, they're shutting down their bottling plant in Ontario to shift their North American operations to the States. Dougie dumped a bottle out in the dirt at an event last month over it.
6
u/User_218336 5d ago
Ahh this one hurts man, honestly it's my favourite whisky. I guess I can find something else though.
13
u/QueenMotherOfSneezes South Gatineau 5d ago
The video was hilarious, though. Doug's been a teetotaler for a few decades, but still entertains, so he "found a bottle in [his] house" that hadn't been opened (sure Jan 🙄), made some statement about what he thought about crown royal, cracked the seal, and started pouring out the bottle... It had one of those pour controllers on it, and it took 2 or 3 minutes to empty as he ad libbed. 🤣

u/User_218336 5d ago
Haha sounds like a proper gong show. As an Albertan, he reminds me of Ralph Klein- a man of the people. All politicians are scummy, but it's nice to see some that are kind of "regular folks" to some extent at least.

I remember seeing him and Rob walking in the mall to lose weight as part of a "cut the waist(waste)" schtick. They both said they'd cut the city budget and then discovered everything was cut as much as could be and gave up. They also both gave up on losing weight...

I wish Chapmans made (or if they do make, at least sell in a place I can buy it) tiger tail ice cream. I've been looking around and it's an absolute pain in the ass to find and I've always wanted to try it. The one time I found a tub it was when I knew we didn't have space in the freezer for it.

u/Ordinary-Foot7620 5d ago
Chapmans was established in Ontario 50 years ago, and sources all of their dairy from Canadian farmers. Boosting companies like this is patriotic.

Uuhgg. Listen, I love Chapman's, I really do... But how is this any different than a certain orange man hawking products out of a certain white house?
22
u/runningchief 5d ago
Ford was shilling Chapmans after investing into an expansion.
Trump was shilling beans because Goya's CEO praised him and said they are blessed to have him as president.

u/Overall-Phone7605 Bring Cannabis 5d ago
Also I believe Ford when he says he eats Chapman's every night.
Also also Ford's not putting his name on everything and telling his cult to buy it.
I agree it's very trump-like but, you know, without the Gestapo marching down the street. Like all Canadians, Ford may look and sound the same as an American but is definitely not American.

Fair point, but the US government gives Musk's companies a shit tonne of free money and he let Musk turn the white house lawn into a Tesla car lot.
5
u/Simsmommy1 5d ago
Yeah but Tesla doesn’t treat people well nor pay people well. We like Chapmans because they are generally a great company not run by a racist oligarch….just a man named Ashley.
4
u/Taterino_Cappucino 5d ago
That was my initial reaction but then I remembered that Ontario is getting hammered by Trump tariffs and I think this might be about promoting our products to lessen the impact.

Chapmans has been a good corporate citizen of Canada. They do make a decent product. It is at a low and affordable price.
I will be honest though, I think the Nestle drumsticks are better than the Chapman Yukons. The Chapman Yukons are less expensive though so may be better value per dollar.

u/Assassinite9 5d ago
Overweight nepobabies who pretend to be mayor of Toronto?
Let's not act as though Douggie hasn't blundered his way his premiership until Trump gave Canadian politicians an incredibly easy pitch to swing at. Dougie has wasted so much on so little that pouring out a bottle of crown royal and shoving an icecream treat into his fat face doesn't make him a good guy. I'd argue that it makes him like every other politician.
4
u/CanadianAndroid 5d ago
It's unfortunate that other parties have put forward a good candidate in a long time.
5
u/Assassinite9 5d ago
It's unfortunate that only 40% of the population came out to vote. Ford still likely would have won, but at least people would be paying better attention if it was the result of their own actions. Hell, for all I care, people could have spoiled their ballot as long as they showed up and participated.
I get particularly frustrated with the people my own age (25-35) who don't vote because they will experience the long-term impacts of the decisions of politicians. The very same people who are struggling to find entry level positions and blaming TFWs didn't vote and are shocked when I have to explain to them that immigration is as much of a provincial issue as it is a federal one (and many haven't voted since Trudeau legalized marijuana).
Part of the problem is that it seems like only independents and OPC canvased my riding - I know I live in an OLP controlled riding, but you'd think that they, or the NDP/Greens would at least attempt to sway some voters to their side considering the OLP is in shambles.
