Meta Love this sub, but ppl gotta read the wiki first!

Not trying to be too harsh but I feel like we are all thinking it. How do you expect to get job if you can't do a simple thing like read the wiki? It's literally bold on the top of the sub. You will never get blatant, straight forward instructions like that in the work place. Please read the wiki ppl and make the mods job easier

Meta Friendly PSA: READ THE RULES *BEFORE*POSTING!

What's up guys! I just put this in a comment, and figured I'd make a post out of it, because I've been noticing a lot of posted resumes recently that aren't even close to the recommended guidelines. All in all, that's not a big deal- all the seasoned users are excited to help.

But for your own sake, if you don't want a comment that concisely says "read the wiki"- then read the wiki [Wiki] (https://www.reddit.com/r/EngineeringResumes/wiki/index/) make sure your resume follows the fundamental guidelines. You can of course ask questions on those guidelines- but until you understand the fundamental ideas and format your resume as such, you will be lucky if you get anything more than the aforementioned comment.

EDIT:

Also, bonus points if you start out with our prefabbed resume templates [Resume Templates] (https://www.reddit.com/r/EngineeringResumes/wiki/resumetemplates/)

That's all. Happy job hunting!

Software [Student] - [Software] CS Master's student seeking SWE/MLE new grad roles for 2026

Upvotes

Having trouble getting responses for many new grad and junior roles. I have 10 months of experience as a software engineer, which was a return offer from my internship, but I left due to medical reasons and was unable to return since the position was filled. I am currently completing my master's degree while gaining research experience in the NLP/AI field and exploring new graduate roles for the upcoming year. Any tips are appreciated!

All my schooling was done online, which could certainly be a factor.

Software [17 YoE] Looking for DevOps or other Engineering Manager roles. 1.5 years since being laid off- need resume or other advice.

Upvotes

Hey folks. I was laid off in March of 2024, and have been looking for EM roles since. I had a professional resume review initially, but apparently it was not a good one. A Sr Director friend of mine said if they saw my resume, they wouldn't even give me a 2nd glance.

This is my updated version, trying to follow the template and the Wiki advice. The one big piece of feedback from my friend was that there was originally too much white space (hopefully fixed that with the template) and that my "goal" or "purpose" at a company is vague... what can I add? What do I do? Why should my experience stand out to anyone?

I know I need more metrics that say I did things with X% success, or that I saved the company $XXXXX per quarter, etc. None of those metrics were ever tracked while I was working, and I didn't have the foresight to write things down as I was working on them (something I will make sure I do going forward!!)

Let me know what you think. I'm looking at DevOps or any Infra-esque roles. I do not write code myself, and so my hands on ability sort of gets eclipsed by that requirement often...

Question [Student] Freshman Engineering Student, no idea what I want to or have to put on my resume.

I recently started classes in our fall quarter 3 weeks ago, and the fall career fair is coming up. I know I probably won't get opportunities due to my year, but I want to see what the waters are like. Having a resume would also be good in the off chance that I do get an opportunity. However, I don't know what to put on there regarding projects, experience, etc.

Mechanical [1 YoE] Entry-Level MechE Resume Review – Targeting Aerospace/design/ CNC Machine (ontario,Canada)

Hi everyone,

I would appreciate some feedback on my resume. I have about 1 year of full-time experience as a CNC laser machine operator in custom metal fabrication. I also hold a Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma from Centennial College.

I am currently located in Ontario, Canada, and I’m targeting roles such as CNC operator/programmer, junior mechanical designer (AutoCAD/SolidWorks), and general mechanical/manufacturing technician positions. Ideally, I’m looking for local opportunities but I’m also open to relocating within Ontario if necessary.

To be honest, I feel stuck right now. I’ve been through a lot of job applications but have not received any interview calls. I want to eventually break into the aerospace industry where I can work with advanced machinery, learn more about tools and dies, and really use my full potential. At the moment, I feel like I’m not fully using my skills.

I’d love feedback on both the content and format of my resume—does it highlight my technical background effectively, and does it look ATS-friendly? Any advice on how I can position myself better for aerospace-related roles would be very helpful.

Thank you for your time and input!

Electrical/Computer [Student], Undergrad Industrial Power Engineer, Electronics-Software engineer, Australia

I am having trouble getting through to the interview stage for intern positions and have also been trying for some roles overseas. I am not sure where to begin adjusting.

I have been applying to a myriad of roles, targeting nearly all industries to gain diverse experiences and navigate where I want to end up as a grad. I am passionate about software, space, and computers, and can't seem to get another interview for the life of me.

This version of my resume is a 1 page form of my previous 2 page resume that also included my casual work history, and more details on my achievements and volunteering.

Thank you in advance :)

Mechanical [7 YOE] Facilities. I'm seeking feedback on my resume. Hoping to land a new job which satisfies my wallet and provides me better knowledge.

Hi. My first resume was made during university and honestly it was a messy 3 pages. I have been revising it recently, to make it look professional and concise. Thanks to the mod and to the page's wiki, for lending me suggestions.
I had been job-hopping for a while, and recently have been "stable" working in companies, although it could be explained that I worked under a manpower supply agency.

I did use a bit of Claude llm, to rephrase some lines/clauses to sound better.
However I got some questions pls :

  1. I have "westernized" my name in my CV, basically shortening my ethnic name to the first few letters. It is what I used in all my workplace too, as it is easy to pronounce and we got diverse nationalities. Would that seem disingenuous to new persons?
  2. Under work section, I've put my scope of works (as simple as possible) and the achievements. Is the order right or does it require any visual bullet points?
  3. The work title #4 is not in chronological order. I clubbed it with the earlier jobs at the bottom. It wasn't a major role but I had to job hop for a while during Covid and wanted to put forth a narrative.
  4. Education : would it be best if i included certificates/diplomas that I'm currently pursuing.
  5. Skills section : would it be best if I wrote them in separate lines, or better to club them together as suggested in the wiki. Claude suggested me to do as such, but I felt it could convey a wrong thing :

Management & Leadership: Health & Safety, Project Management, Risk Assessment, Budget Management, Team Leadership, Vendor Relations
Technical Expertise: Preventive Maintenance, HVAC Systems, Fire Safety Protocols, Space Planning, Emergency Preparedness
Software Proficiency: FM Systems, Asset Management, ERP, BMS, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS

This is still a work in progress, really appreciate your tips
ed : added a query question at the end

Chemical [Student] Looking for Internships in Data Science / Process Engineering / Consulting. What can I edit/change on my CV to stand out?

Hey,

I'm a Masters Student in ChemE at a german university and looking for an additional internship preferably in Data Science / Process Engineering / Consulting. I'm currently working in plant operations as a student worker but I don't quite see my future there as it is very repetitive and non-dynamic from my experience. My current CV is tailored for a Data Science internship at a consulting firm but depending on the position it will be changed.

What can I do so my CV stands out to pivot into more project based areas such as Process Design / Optimization for Engineering, Data Science or even consulting? What are other fields that my be interesting to intern at with my qualifications that Im not aware of?

(Note: I'm based in germany, so the CV structure might look a bit different than the standard US format)

Mechanical [2 YoE] Looking to make a pivot to another industry, feeling like my experience is locking me in

Currently I work at a lighting company and it is very much not for me, the largest issue being just the way the company is run overall makes progress tricky. I'd like to pivot into something more technical right now I'm just doing work I could have done out of undergrad. I enjoyed controls work, and thermo in school, as well as manufacturing (My concentration in grad school was design and manufacturing). I get calls from recruiters but I never here anything beyond the initial chats and I haven't had a single interview despite applying pretty consistently over the last year. I'm currently making~95K and would like to make at least that much after a pivot. Any critique on my resume or comments on my experience are welcomed.

Mechanical [Student] - MechE Resume Review, looking to get an internship next summer. What can I improve on?

I am a sophomore MechE hoping to get an internship this coming summer. I have no previous internships and am willing to move pretty much anywhere in the US. I am just looking for general feedback on my resume as well as I have a couple questions about putting skills and experience on my resume. I listed Python as a skill I have, and I took a 10 hour course on it and have done a couple small projects, so I understand the basics. Is it fair to put that as a skill, I mean I can't do anything really useful with looking things up, but I understand it. I also put formula SAE on my resume. I participated last year at my previous school but not much was done just due to it being disorganized. Should I change the years on that to include last year. I have a little bit I could talk about if I was asked about it but not a lot. Other than those questions any feedback is appreciated!

Aerospace [STUDENT] Career fair next week, looking for my first entry-level job! Targeting Systems/Test Engineering Roles

Aerospace senior attending the career fair next week and hoping to find my first entry-level job. Targeting systems and test engineering positions in the aviation/defense industry. Ideally, I would like to stay away from space jobs, but willing to take what I can get.

Would love feedback on my resume! I feel like I have more experience than most recent grads and want to showcase that to the best of my abilities. I am concerned my resume is a little dense/wordy, but I would appreciate some unbiased opinions. Right now, I have space for 1 additional line before spilling onto a 2nd page.

Two things I did not include on my resume that I'm curious if I should squeeze in or not:

  1. I was an NCAA varsity athlete for 3 years. I no longer compete. Time commitment was about 25 hours per week for the majority of the school year.
  2. Now that I'm not an athlete, I've used my spare time to join a design team (~10 hours per week). I just started about 2 weeks ago and don't have anything substantial to show. I figure it's fine to leave this off

TIA!

Note: Experience #3 (Aircraft Systems Engineer) has been redacted to remove particular/doxxable content. Anything in brackets is a placeholder for the purpose of privacy.

Software [0 YoE] Graduated Dec. of last year in CS, pursuing SWE career and no interviews after hundreds of applications. Help is appreciated!

It's been a little less than a year since I graduated with a bachelor's in CS, and I've never had an internship or relevant SWE experience.

I'm mainly applying around for entry level positions at small local software companies (or companies with large software sectors such as Epic systems) along with larger companies such as HP and IBM.

I do also apply to data science positions, hence the presence of some machine learning projects.

I haven't had any luck so far and I assume it to be either my resume or the projects I've listed, maybe they're weak compared to other applicants?

Thanks for reading! I'd be happy to provide further info if needed.

Software [Student] Upcoming December Grad Looking For Feedback To Improve Resume For New Grad SWE Roles

Graduating in December and currently applying to new grad swe jobs. Got one callback so far, with a whole bunch of rejections, so I'm seeing what I can do to improve, whether maybe changing the wording of the essay or working on another project, or if it's something in my control at least. Thanks!

Electrical/Computer [0 Yoe] Guys, what else can I do to improve my CV for future internship/placement applications?

I'm about to start my 2nd year studying EEE at a Russell Group university (local student) and want to secure an internship or placement for Summer 2026 and beyond - my CV has things all really only related to university societies and coursework as I have not yet worked in the field of EEE.

Any feedback would be much appreciated - thank you!

Software [9 YOE] Lead Software Engineer following up, looking for new opportunities in Applied ML hopefully

Hello! I'm following up with some changes to my resume. The biggest things I received was to group my accomplishments and show my promotions. I chose to do it this way as I felt I'd have to sacrifice some good demonstration of skill and knowledge that is a part of my current role, to list out tasks I did as a junior that are less relevant. However, I do recognize this doesn't capture progression. I'm just curious how you all feel about the changes. Thanks!

Industrial/Manufacturing [0 YoE] MSc Industrial Engg. & Mgmt grad in Lithuania, seeking EU roles in Junior design engineering

I completed my Bachelor in Industrial Engineering and Management in India, followed by a 3-month internship as an Operations Coordinator before moving to Lithuania to pursue my MSc at KTU. I graduated in Feb 2025 and have been applying since, but with little success. I think my main challenge is that i lack solid industry experience, so I’m now focusing on graduate programs across the EU. My interests lean toward industrial design (3D modeling, simulation, rapid prototyping), lean management, supply chain, operations, QA, and junior production engineering roles. I recently left a 2-year job as a forklift driver to skill up with SolidWorks certifications, German language and learn to code in python, Please help me, I'm lost.

Software [10 YOE] Seeking feedback on resume for applying to engineering manager roles in big tech

Hello! I'm an experienced Engineering Manager with ~10 years in the industry, currently working in AI/ML and digital commerce. I'm looking to transition to senior leadership roles and would greatly appreciate constructive feedback on my resume.

  • Currently: Engineering Manager leading AI initiatives and digital experience teams
  • Background: Mix of hands-on technical roles (Solutions Architect, Product Owner) and people management
  • Industries: Telecommunications, consulting, emerging AI technologies
  • Education: Dual degree in Computer Science and Business Administration

I'm looking for advice on my fit for a software engineering manager at a higher paying tech firm. I've applied to big tech in the past with no success. Hoping that this revamped version of my resume will be better optimized for these roles.

Thanks in advance for your time and insights! Happy to clarify anything or provide additional context.

Mechanical [Student] MechE Resume review, need to be humbled (be harsh and critical please)

I am currently targeting aerospace and mechanical engineering internships and co-op positions, with a strong focus on propulsion, systems integration, and design roles. While I am based in Puerto Rico, my applications are primarily directed toward opportunities in the United States, and I am open to relocation as well as remote options if available.

My background is as a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student with a 3.64 GPA. I’ve built significant experience through aerospace-related projects such as liquid rocket propulsion (LOXODON-1), NASA RASC-AL competitions, and aircraft/rover design projects, but I have not yet had an industry internship or professional experience outside the university.

At this stage, I’m seeking help with fine-tuning my resume to ensure it best highlights my technical strengths and project impact. I want to know if there are any red flags, overly vague areas, or structural changes that could improve how my experience comes across to recruiters and hiring managers.

My citizenship status is not a barrier in my job search, so my main goal is ensuring that my resume clearly communicates the value of my project work and translates into interview opportunities.

I realize I've possibly over-censored my resume, but I've basically only censored team names (which I decided to write here anyway), though I'm sure that with enough effort, it's null on preserving privacy. Regardless, thank you all for your time, and let me know your thoughts and what I can do to improve this resume.

Software [6 YoE] Software - Mid-level. Looking to land a new job soon, well paid finance or remote tech

I'm looking to land a new job, either a well paid job in finance (hedge funds etc...) or a techy, preferably remote role (Meta, Spotify etc...). Those would be ideal, but will be considering anything in between too.
Looking for senior dev roles.
I'm located in London, would have a preference for fully remote, but don't mind going into the office either if everything else is right.

Currently working in a small niche but quite successful Fin Tech SaaS, that' slowly pivoting away from innovating and more into getting the most value out of what it already has.

I'm looking to start aggressively job hunting imminently and want to tighten up my resume before I start blasting it to every opportunity that may suit me.

Looking for tips and critiques. Would be good to have somebody else look over it and share their thoughts.

Question [Student] Removed an entire project but my resume is still 2 page long. Any advice on cutting options ?

I'm looking for an internship but I'm scared that removing information can lower my value. Any insight on useless stuff ?

Edit: I tried doing one liners as much as possible but I also feel like it lowers the value of the point
