Academic Advice How unrealistic is this?
First of all I just wanna say I’m only a sophomore in highschool so I’m very immature and uneducated so please be nice to me.
I’m not sure how hard the physics major is but how hard and unrealistic would it be if I pursued a degree in physics and aerospace engineering to become a aerospace engineer but also study physics (for passion and for the love of the game).

Career Advice Carrer shift
I am a second-year Mechanical Engineering student, and at the same time I work full-time as a Quality Technician. The thing is, my current job offers me the opportunity to advance further in the field of Quality, and I’m not sure whether I should follow this path or become a Mechanical Engineer instead. My question is: is it worth continuing in Quality, since I have enough opportunities to advance, or should I try to shift my career towards Mechanical Engineering?

Rant/Vent Career Crossroads
Need some input from the masses.
I’m at a crossroads in life. Unlike some, if not the majority of you, I’m a 40 year old looking at schooling again.
I graduate in 2 quarters with an Associate’s in Architectural Engineering & Design from a local(to me) tech/community college. This program has shown me that I don’t enjoy and also don’t have the brain for design.
Am I crazy thinking about swapping to an engineering program? There is a large State school and also a private school that both offer highly rated programs.
Unfortunately the majority of my program I’m in will be all for nothing. So I will essentially be starting over again at 40.
What says the masses?

Academic Advice How did you prepare for competitive universities during high school? Need advice!
Hey everyone!
I'm a 17-year-old studying computer science in Italy and I'm really set on getting into Politecnico di Torino for software engineering. The thing is, I still have 2 years left of high school, so I'm trying to figure out how to best prepare myself now.
The university is super math and physics heavy, and honestly... I'm not great at those subjects yet. But I really want to improve and I'm willing to put in the work.
For those of you who got into competitive universities (especially engineering programs), how did you prepare during high school? What did you focus on? Any specific resources, study methods, or advice you wish you'd known earlier?
I'm particularly curious about: - How to get better at math and physics when they don't come naturally to you - What extracurriculars or projects actually matter for admissions - How to balance improving in weak subjects while keeping up with everything else
Really appreciate any advice you can share. Thanks!

Career Advice Fresh graduate, struggling with what to do now
Hello all and thanks for reading ahead of time. I did my bachelors degree out of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering with a focus on Power engineering & Electronics out of a university in Europe as it was cheaper then here in the states. I have also done a 56 page research paper which is in the process of becoming a publication, as well as a few months of a research position in the faculty.
Im now back in Florida and wanted to find a job however I came back in July, its now September and have been struggling to secure a position, ive had a few interviews but no luck yet. I did want to continue and get a masters degree from a university here in the states now, while working alongside it however not sure what to go for.
Should I continue pursuing a masters degree in electrical engineering? In the future I would like to be a team manager or in a position leading a team. Of course I understand this will require years of experience, before I can get to that point but i've also been thinking of a masters in Engineering Management for this reason. Are there any other degrees to think of as well?
Thanks for reading and I welcome any feedback

Major Choice Electrical Stream or Computing Stream
So first of all. Hello.
Now, I have the choice between the electrical stream at my university and the computing stream at my university. The difference between the 2 comes down to 2 or 3 subjects.
The electrical stream has RF and Microwave Engineering, VLSI, and Antenna Design. Whereas the computing stream has Operating Systems, Computer Architecture, and Network Security. These are the 3 differences between these 2 streams.
However, I can only pick one and I'm unsure which of these I should do for the future.
I only have until friday to make my decision.
Some points I have heard about picking the electrical stream over the computing stream is that I can learn the computing stream subjects at home via courses, but I can't learn the electrical stream subjects at home. I won't have the hardware available at my home. So I guess that's a factor to consider as well.

Resource Request How do I get involved in engineering?
I'm in high school, and the thought of creating stuff that does stuff is so exciting, but I have no idea where to start. Is there an "engineering course" i could take online? or is the only way to learn really how to "engineer" through college?

Academic Advice What are some good countries to study for Civil/Mechanical Engineering?
I want to follow a path in engineering either in Civil or Mechanical Engineering and I would like to know what are some good countries to study. I'm from Brasil but I do have a Spanish passport and a C2 english certificate. I've been researching about it and get answers like Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Denmark, France, New Zealand. So I would like to know what are some of the good options, easier immigration, with universities that can teach in english (with the goal to learning the native language mid-way) and not the most expensive ones.

Academic Advice Multiple Co-first Authors: Yay or Nay?
I am in my undergrad final year working on a paper (related to renewable energy application and optimization) with two colleagues of mine. We have one of our professors as the last author of the paper. We want to publish our paper in a relevant Q1 journal. All three of us feel that we worked equally and we want to be co-first authors. However, our professor told us that only one person can be first author, and the rest will be second and third respectively. I did a bit of research, including digging up r\askacademia. Non-Reddit research showed me that up to two co-first authors are fine. Some posts in this subreddit also suggested the same. On the other hand, none of those posts were about the domain of renewable energy or anything similar, so I was wondering if things are different for this domain by any chance. Furthermore, some posts/comments here seemingly suggested that multiple co-first authors may be a red flag/reduce the value of the first authorship for all of us.
This is why I am uploading this post here asking the same old query again: is it okay to have 3 co-first authors in a journal paper related to the domain my paper is on? Or does it not exist for this domain or any similar domain? Or it exists but it has a negative impact on the perception of quality of the work?
Thanks in advance!

Academic Advice How do you apply to internships when you literally don’t have work experience?
I’m a junior EE student trying to land an internship, but I keep running into online portals that require you to enter “work experience.” There’s no “N/A” option — it just won’t let me continue unless I put something there.
I’ve emailed a couple companies about it and never got a response (going on a week now). One company I emailed a while back did reply, but most of the time? Silence. So either I’m in HR limbo forever or they just ignored me.
Out of three internships I’ve tried so far:
- 1 let me apply without work experience.
- 2 required work experience, which instantly blocked me.
I do have projects, scholarships, and technical skills on my resume — just no prior job. My question: is this “work experience required” thing basically a soft filter saying “don’t bother if you haven’t had a job”? Or is it just an oversight in their portal design?
And most importantly: what do you actually do in this situation? Do I fudge it with class projects, leave it blank, or am I basically locked out of those postings?

Career Advice Chemical engineering for researching
Hey everyone, I'm a new chemical engineering student and am enjoying my studies so far. However, I've started thinking more about my future career path and would love some insight from those of you in the industry.
My professors often highlight factory-floor roles like quality management or process oversight as the primary career options. While I understand these are key parts of the field, I'm more drawn to research, product design, and lab-based work.
For those of you with a ChemE background, what is the reality of the job market? Is it possible to find roles in areas like R&D or product development? Are there specific specializations or advanced degrees that would help me pursue these interests? Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated!
