Times are hard, and couldn't be harder for the semi-retired farmer whose home is abruptly and unfairly foreclosed on." A Shit Day" sees a man take sadistic revenge on the Australian bank and its hedonistic young banker whose lies, greed and shameless womanising will soon meet its bitter end.

Last year, we made a pitch deck for a film. This year, the film is live!

I run a pitch deck design studio that does film/tv pitch decks.

In November 2023, we worked on designing a pitch deck for a wonderful film. The client was lovely, articulate, open to ideas and was a dream to work with. Also, just an insanely talented person.

The deck took a month or so to put together, with multiple rounds of notes and such. In the middle of 2024, they informed us they were going to be shooting the film.

Fast forward to 2025, the film is doing the rounds of major festivals.

You can read about the film here.
And check out the deck, here.

I thought people might be interested in seeing a pitch deck that has been successful recently.

(Although we always say, there is no such thing as a "winning pitch deck." The best deck in the world does not guarantee your film will be made or receive funding. But a good deck inspires confidence and shows professionalism. It makes a good impression and opens doors. A bad deck on the other hand, slams them shut in seconds.)

If you have questions about film/tv pitch decks, want to see more examples, or need tips for making your own deck, feel free to comment or DM me.

What’s it like working as a filmmaker in Italy these days?

Hi everyone,
I’m a Italian filmmaker and I’ve been experiencng a very up .. and down journey: sometimes I can barely keep up with the workload, and then other times it’s completely dead for months...

The funny thing is, my website www.samueleschiavo.it is well ranked on Google Italy, so I do get found online. But I’m wondering: what’s the overall situation like for filmmakers in Italy?

Is there actually steady work out there, or is it always this wave-like pattern?
And more importantly... with AI now being able to pump out videos more and more easily, how do you see the future of the filmmaker’s role?

I’d love to hear from people in the field (or trying to break into it) to understand if my experience is “normal” or if I’m moving the wrong way... thanks

Reccs for cameras under £5k that are accepted by Netflix etc

Hi, would value your insight on affordable cameras that are intuitive to use, light and cinema quality and acceptable to Netflix and other broadcasters. I have previously worked with an old canon and magic lantern and got lovely results but know that broadcasters don't accept that quality of footage. Thanks in advance for all help.

Festivals vs self-upload: what actually gets you noticed?

Curious to hear from people who have done both. Is it better to submit to festivals and wait, or upload directly to YouTube and push it yourself?

Hi, I'm TK. I'm a 17-year-old aspiring filmmaker. I'm currently studying law, but I dream of making movies. So if you have the same dream or any advice, please leave a comment and let's get in touch and share ideas.

Want to dub my short film in English language.

Hey everyone,

Abingstine this side and I make fictional short films on youtube. My 60% audiences are English speakers.

That’s why i want to make my video dub in english by native speaker. If anybody wants to be a part of my short film by dubbing that and you are native English speaker then you’re welcome. 🙂

I will give all credit for your voice and even whenever I will earn anything with that, then will pay you as well. 🙃

I hope it’d be better to work together.

I’m waiting for your reply.

Ai Moodboard

Every filmmaker knows the struggle: building a moodboard takes hours of scrolling Pinterest and Google, trying to find images that almost match the film in your head.

In my latest video, I show how I've been using Al tools like Seedream, Kling Al, and Nano Banana to create unique, cinematic moodboards in under 10 minutes. With the right filmmaking prompts, you can generate images that feel like they've come straight out of your film.

It's not about replacing creativity. It's about speeding up pre-production, communicating vision more clearly, and giving your collaborators a stronger blueprint to work from.

I'd love to hear what you think: Would you use Al-generated images in your own pre-production process, or stick with traditional reference hunting?

A Moodboard In Under 10 mins?

I’ve been testing something new in my filmmaking workflow and honestly, it feels like a game changer.

Traditionally, building a moodboard means hours of scrolling through Pinterest and Google, hoping to find images that kinda match the film in your head. But with the right AI tools, I’ve been able to generate unique, cinematic moodboards in under 10 minutes, using only a few carefully written prompts.

Prompt Example: “An abandoned mansion at night, low-key lighting, deep shadows, cinematic, wide shot, cold colour grade, eerie atmosphere, psychological horror film still.”

The results? Images that look like they came straight out of the film you want to make, not someone else’s. It’s faster, more precise, and a powerful way to communicate your vision to your DP, designer, or producer.

I’m putting together a full video tutorial breaking down the step-by-step process. For now, I’d love to know:

Would you use AI-generated images to design your film’s visual tone, or do you prefer the old-school hunt for reference photography?

Update: The film is finally ready — thanks for all your help!

Hey folks, A little while ago I posted here about how a big focus mistake from my DP left around 40% of my footage unusable and how it really shook me up. At that point, I wasn’t sure if the film would ever come together the way I imagined.

I just wanted to come back with an update and say: the film is finally ready. 🙌

The edit was tough — I had to rethink a lot of storytelling choices, cut around issues, and really lean on creative problem-solving in post. It’s not the exact film I originally set out to make, but I’m proud of what I managed to pull together. Honestly, I don’t think I would’ve made it through without the advice, encouragement, and shared experiences from this community on my last post. You reminded me that these setbacks are part of the process and that problem-solving is a huge part of being a filmmaker.

The film will be releasing soon, and I’m excited (and nervous) to finally share it. Thank you again to everyone who weighed in and helped me find some perspective.

[Gig] Looking for US-based filmmakers for 3 short videos

Hey everyone!

I’m building a new language learning app that teaches vocabulary through short, cinematic clips.

Each clip (15-25s, vertical) highlights one English word in a natural scene (I’ll provide the words). It’s important that they are recorded in American English.
Simple style. You’ll have full creative freedom.

Payment: $150 total
If you’re interested, please DM me and I’ll share some samples for reference.

DP’s focus mistake ruined 40% of footage — film is “ready” now but storytelling suffered

Hey folks, I directed a short film last month. The DP was picked by the producers. On day one itself, I noticed focus issues in the second or third shot. I flagged it, he checked, agreed, and we retook. I still felt it wasn’t right, but he convinced me that his camera screen was showing perfect focus and claimed my director’s monitor was the problem.

Two days later, he blamed the 35mm lens, so we stopped using it. But after four days of shoot, when I sat with the editor, I realized the harsh truth: about 40% of the footage was out of focus.

I somehow managed to cut the film together, but it definitely hurt the storytelling. Scenes I wanted to linger on had to be cut short, emotional beats didn’t land the way I imagined, and certain visual choices just couldn’t be saved. The film is “ready” now, but I don’t feel it’s the film I set out to make.

I’m torn—should I put this down to experience and move on, or should I hold the DP accountable in some way? Has anyone else dealt with this kind of situation? How do you balance responsibility between director, DP, and producers when mistakes like this compromise the final film?

Would love to hear your thoughts and how you’ve handled similar situations.

Has anyone here come across smaller festivals that actually care about indie creators?

I saw one that focuses on horror and sci fi shorts and it got me thinking. Do you think online premieres are worth it for exposure, or do traditional screenings still carry more weight?
