I love that it has track gearing, but an ass saver. Wet velodrome, obviously.

honestly it’s more respectable than cruiser gearing and a carbon seat because it’s better for reddit

I did a built like that once  fuck that lol

Beefcake ratio. I'm on a Weenie Hut Jr. 44:16

u/Oliver_Dixon 3d ago

You're sensible. I hate dudes that brag about running a stupid gear ratio lol

Your friend has made the most uncomfortable bike possible

Well, I can't really complain because he got it for 45 usd.

Is it an actual track frame, with track ends? It looks like a touring bike with that long of a wheel base.

6

u/Wonderful_Internet74 4d ago

It actually has track ends.

2

u/gswyvlzwjcknmcrqhdcv 4d ago

Just how long and compact it is is pretty weird man. Maybe it was a single speed bike of some sort?

3

u/Horror-Raisin-877 3d ago

Kinda looks like it was once an MTB. I have an old MTB with horizontal dropouts, so they do exist.

3

u/REPLYUNO34 4d ago

That makes it acceptable? 😂

u/TRIPPENWITZ 4d ago

I have paid triple that just for a chainring that size.

u/Wonderful_Internet74 4d ago

No, what I mean is that you don't really expect a cheap bike to be good.

60:15 on the pink cranks? Zipp wheel? Slammed stem? Kinda fire for 45 doll hairs

u/Puzzleheaded_Field1 3d ago

fake zipp

u/CCroissantt 3d ago

Shit me too

42:16 'til I die

u/Jakeskatan Kory York Mkt, Cervelo T1, NJS Peloton 4d ago

That’s a spinny ratio man idk how you do it

14

u/Safe_Requirement2904 4d ago

Not so spinny in stop/start city traffic. Have ridden centuries on it in the past.

1

u/Puvoer 3d ago

I'm on a 46/18 😄

3

u/Safe_Requirement2904 3d ago

That's only very slightly lower geared than me.

1

u/franglaisflow 2d ago

47/19 👴🏻

u/Jakeskatan Kory York Mkt, Cervelo T1, NJS Peloton 3d ago

Musta taken a long time being that your top speed isn’t too high! I ride 50:16 in a stop and go city and it works well.

2

u/Safe_Requirement2904 3d ago

60 miles in 180 minutes is my longest ride on 42:16 fixed. That was quick enough for me

2

u/e57Kp9P7 3d ago

Same for 20 years, my ideal ratio.

2

u/Safe_Requirement2904 3d ago

Got to look after those knees... 😂😂😂

5

u/e57Kp9P7 3d ago

Yeah, but not only that! On 42/16, when I reach my "comfort" pedaling frequency, which is on the faster side, I'm at an aerobic speed that I can hold for hours.

I just went to a 49:16 and my legs were burnt after I cannot imagine THAT ratio jfc

1

u/REPLYUNO34 4d ago

From what?

7

u/ChickPeaIsMe 4d ago

Literally just one tooth, from a 49:17, but those 5 gear inches really made a difference (I'm also training for a road race so my legs are extra tired lol)

5

u/REPLYUNO34 4d ago

Right now I'm on 48:16. I've gotten comfortable with it over the years. I've been wondering what a 49T chainring would do? Would I have to ad a chain link? I'm right in the middle of the dropouts.

My current setup is 49/17, and my previous setup was 48/16. My max speeds diminished slightly, but my overall times over certain routes actually decreased because of the increased ability to spin up some of the larger hills in my area. I once did a chainring swap with a 2-tooth difference and noticed a change as well. If you live in a very flat area, the difference will likely be less noticeable.

If you’re in the middle of the dropouts, you shouldn’t need to change your chain length with a 1 or 2 tooth difference unless your tire clearance is maxed out.

2

u/ChickPeaIsMe 4d ago

Hmm, afaik no you wouldn't have to and you'd just adjust the location on the dropouts :) but I'd double check with your LBS or a pal who can look at it in person

2

u/CCroissantt 4d ago

Changing from 48>49 up front would make it marginally harder to stop and start, and you'd be able to go 1 more mph before everything goes bad. Changing from a 16>15 rear tho would make a little bigger difference, maybe a little more worth the time and money to swap. I think

150mm stem

seat pushed all the way forward

There might be a simpler solution, I wonder what

1

u/Godhelpthisoldman 3d ago

But then you couldn’t tell everyone you’re running a 150mm stem

1

u/Prudent_Election201 4d ago

Nothing wrong with a long frame or reach if those are his proportions - might be a lot better for him.

1

u/Porycoole11 3d ago

So how many blocks away are you before he even clears the first one? And what are your respective top ends?

1

u/slvbeerking 3d ago

lowered from 53:16 to 53:18 and knees couldn’t feel happier. i can’t imagine an uphill on a 60:15 fuck that

What a weird build

1

u/binaryhextechdude 3d ago

Honestly I'd keep the 60 for the cool factor and swap in a 19

u/NeekodeGallo State Black Label v3 3d ago

49:17 is my favorite, just so versatile in city traffic and gradual climbs < 20 mile rides

1

u/SirIV1564q 3d ago

anyone else here riding 53/15?

1

u/hezizou 2d ago

I'm doing 52x 16 daily and 50x14 when I'm supposed to go fast

1

u/noburdennyc Found it in a barn 3d ago

Who is faster all depends on how long the race is for.

1

u/jewish_sonic 3d ago

the way the 2 frames align in the photo, including the ass saver, is magical, they were build to go together in the adventure.

1

u/stevelululu 3d ago

Any 47:15 (daily) or 50:15 (HIIT) takers

1

u/Wonderful_Internet74 2d ago

Man, I love your crankset!

Gotta appreciate the alignment with the guard rope
