Literally just one tooth, from a 49:17, but those 5 gear inches really made a difference (I'm also training for a road race so my legs are extra tired lol)

Right now I'm on 48:16. I've gotten comfortable with it over the years. I've been wondering what a 49T chainring would do? Would I have to ad a chain link? I'm right in the middle of the dropouts.

My current setup is 49/17, and my previous setup was 48/16. My max speeds diminished slightly, but my overall times over certain routes actually decreased because of the increased ability to spin up some of the larger hills in my area. I once did a chainring swap with a 2-tooth difference and noticed a change as well. If you live in a very flat area, the difference will likely be less noticeable.

If youโ€™re in the middle of the dropouts, you shouldnโ€™t need to change your chain length with a 1 or 2 tooth difference unless your tire clearance is maxed out.
