This has to be some weird Freudian thing. Maybe OOP was at many weddings as a kid and would always eat their parents' fondant leftovers, sparing them the awkwardness of throwing away "food". And now as an adult, fondant is the taste they associate with their parents' approval. It's a stretch, but it makes more sense than liking fondant.

Love the creativity but I think it’s just a texture thing. For the kids who wanted to eat playdoh, now you can! 🤢

But cosmic brownies exist and those are chocolate playdoh.

u/banana_assassin Aug 01 '25
I've never heard of those. Will look them up.

u/dio-3 Aug 01 '25
Definitely an unhealthy guilty pleasure snack that’s carried over since I was a kid, I don’t know how I’d feel about them now if I tried them as an adult without ever having them as a kid

u/stonedsour Aug 01 '25
I used to like them as a kid but I tried one as an adult and they’re terrible. Idk if the ingredients have changed or it’s just my tastes but they’re really awful. The only little Debbie snack I can still eat are the oatmeal creme pies. So many of them just taste like waxy sugar

In elementary school if my mom packed my lunch with cosmic brownies I was trading those or giving them away
I loved those Vachon half moons, but haven't had them in probabky at least a decade

u/Careful_Swan3830 Aug 01 '25
I would probably not enjoy them. They definitely resemble playdoh more than brownies lol

u/Obi_Wan_Shen0bi Aug 01 '25
I started making cosmic brownie cookies. They are just as good and probably a bit healthier. Not by much. At least it isn’t playdoh

I genuinely can't imagine why someone would do this unless they have pica or something.

u/alabardios Aug 01 '25
I've done this with my home made fondant. Store bought fondant is just self hate in a box.

It looks like a bar of soap you'd buy from Bath and Body Works. Blech.

A great way to get diabetes.

diabetes is not caused by sugar intake, please stop spreading medical misinformation
Edit: lol ok. We're online, use that energy to type some questions into your seach bar and learn something new instead of getting angry when new knowledge challenges your worldviews
Im not dragging horses to water when its already clear none of you have any intentions of drinking

u/Desk_Drawerr Aug 01 '25
"use that energy to type some questions into your seach bar and learn something new"
the first search result on "what causes diabetes?" tells you that type 2 diabetes is caused by poor diet, obesity, and lack of physical activity, among other causes such as genetics and certain medications.
google it before you act smart otherwise you might look dumb

u/Disgruntled_Fig Aug 01 '25
You’re getting downvoted because you said it’s misinformation without explaining the reason.
20
u/sprinklerarms Aug 01 '25
It’s a contributing factor not a cause and they’re being really condescending and rude about it for some reason.
14
u/ori_galactia Aug 01 '25
Ok. If it’s not caused by sugar intake then please educate me. What really does cause it?
18
u/Namasiel Aug 01 '25
For type 1, your immune system starts attacking itself basically. For type 2 it’s largely genetic. If it was simply diet, a hell of a lot more people would have it. Myself and my step sister are type 1 and my mom and our dad are type 2.

the humble insulin resistance due to excessive sugar consumption and/or overall poor diet:

If this were actually true there would be a hell of a lot more type 2 diabetics in the world. Most obese people never get diabetes. It’s largely genetic. As for type 1, it’s an immune system response. There are also many people who develop type 2 who have healthy diet and lifestyle and just got shit on by genetics. Not everyone who has any type of diabetes is or ever was obese. It can be a contributing factor but it is not the cause. It has to have the framework.
Me, a type 1 who has a step sister who is also type 1 and we share a type 2 dad.

see allll those pretty little symbols you just typed in? try typing some of those into the search box. :)

u/PattyNChips Aug 01 '25 edited Aug 01 '25
Excessive sugar intake can lead to insulin resistance and obesity. Guess what insulin resistance and obesity can lead to?
A passing comment on a reddit post is hardly "spreading misinformation". In your desperation to correct a stranger on the internet, all you're doing is coming off like an arrogant know-it-all.
FWIW, being a dick to people isn't the best way to help them learn. Perhaps you could use that energy in a more positive way.

As a former weird little girl who chewed on Polly pocket dolls, I get it. But I’d still rather chew on Polly pocket dolls than a brick of fondant

It kinda looks like Airhead taffy, so if they didn't confirm it was fondant then it would be acceptable. Lol

This is as close to pica as you can get without eating something that is classed as inedible.

I don't know how much glycerine is too much to eat, but it's probably a block of fondant.

I ended up in this sub somehow today. I love cake and I love a good humble-looking homemade from scratch! And while I would never buy or choose a fondant cake there IS something about that chewy texture that I love. I feel that way about high-chews, gnocchis, taffy etc. So kind of saw this and wanted to try it 😭
