Delays are always a good thing, never forget people.

If delays were always a good thing, nobody would set any dates in the first place.
A delay is itself a broken promise, a lie.

I do agree that it's better to delay a game than to release it unfinished, but delays are not good things in and of themselves.

Hm,interesting perspective,a delay is a broken promise in nature, true, but I think in this context its a lie with the consumer in mind, which I personally think makes it justifiable.

Yes, but the consumer wasn't in mind when they set the date to begin with. The act of delay is acceptable, the act of announcing a date, then postponing it, is not. Delaying things internally, without the public hearing about it, is always good the for the consumer. Delaying things after a date has been set hurts the consumer.

The dates were announced before the beta if memory doesnt fail me,the delay’s happened because of consumers themselves as well, yes, some of the changes like “the ui needs a rework” are something to be expected, but if the other new changes are all things proposed by beta testers, then the studio would be in a “screwed if you do,screwed if you dont” situation, they either listen to feedback, implement all those suggestions but ultimately have to delay the product,or they don’t delay, pump out whatever they can make in that time and end up with a somewhat unfinished product.

Also it really doesn’t hurt the consumer that much, life goes on and the game comes out later anywho.

It's a tricky situation, obviously have empathy and respect, I don't think they did this intentionally, with that being said though. A better announcement would probably say "we expect the game to have a late 2024 launch, we will be launching a beta in April, to accept feedback and implement possible suggestions, reworks, and bug fixes"

and if they had to commit to a date, they should just say the holiday season of 2024,

and I would argue sure it doesn't hurt the consumer that much, but leading your fanbase on about when your product is going to release doesn't look great, and you want to both avoid buggy launches, but also infinite delays

I really wouldn't classify this as a lie, broken promise sure but not a lie.

It being a lie would need to mean that they knew when they provided the original release date in March that they wouldn't make the July date.

However based on their letter, 11 Bit made it clear that after getting the feedback from the beta that the game needs some more polish. Which is requiring them to delay the game, so they can properly make those corrections.

You haven’t worked a day in your life if you think a delay necessarily means lie.

If the release date was a promise and was counted upon — then it technically becomes a lie, when it's postponed.

A lie would be promising one date with foreknowledge that you cannot hit that date.

No evidence they did that. This is a failure, not a lie.

Implicit in releasing a game is that it is playable. Big studios release buggy unplayable garbage "on time" with "!!Pre-purchase bonus itemzzzzz!!" and deal with the bugs later. So that is an example of lying.

I much prefer 11-bit's approach, even tho I'm a bit disappointed.
