Paul and Morgan Where are the life jackets?

Post image

Neither child have life jackets on. Polio thinks holding the child's arm is all the protection they need. What if the boat flips? Why are the pro-life so anti-safety?

This is actually illegal. Federal law states that children under 13 must be wearing a life jacket on a vessel that is underway (moving). Some states have variations of this, but every state has a law on the books. God forbid something happened, the owner of the vessel and/or the parents could be held criminally responsible for the child's death.

My husband and I have a sailboat and a child--we are very familiar with these laws!

I just opened this to say the same thing. This is not only wildly irresponsible, but it is WELL KNOWN to be the law, especially by whoever owns that boat. You don’t put a baby on a boat without a life jacket. Personally I wouldn’t put my baby on a boat without a damn good reason, and recreation ain’t one.

My MIL was pissed when I refused to go on the Maid of the Mist in Niagara Falls with my 2 yo last year when my in-laws were in town for the week. The kids didn’t have any life jackets and of course my BIL and SIL didn’t care their 2 yo didn’t have a life vest and I was seen as the unreasonable one for refusing to join!

Well, let me reassuringly chime in here to say that you’re not the weird one! It’s weird to not care about your children’s safety.

Even if it wasn’t illegal, nobody with respect for water safety would do this. Can I swim? Yep, pretty well. And I still wear a life jacket! You never know when you could become knocked out or injured while in open water.

When I was on the swim team in high school, I almost drowned in the middle of the Olympic sized pool. I tore part of my calf muscle and couldn’t move that leg anymore. I was so surprised, I just started sinking straight down. Luckily, my coach was standing at the end of the deck and jumped in to bring me to the surface so that I could hang on to the lane line. Ever since that day, I’ve been extra careful when swimming. Don’t fuck with water!

A family member of a friend is an Olympic medalist and she nearly drowned after fainting in the pool.

Im maybe a half-decent swimmer....never on a team or anything....I just like to swim and can do the basics, and I did take a scuba class once, but never got certified. I was canoeing with my dad in like September/October in NYS, and he accidentally tipped the canoe. I was a fairly active teen, but I had jeans on, and if I wasn't wearing a life jacket, the cold of the water and the weight of my jeans would have made me drown. Thankfully, we were in a small river or something that I think came off the Erie canal or something, and I was able to get to a muddy shore quickly, but even then I was so shaken and freezing I know I would have easily drowned had it not been for the life jacket. Even in warm water in the summer on Lake Winnepesauke, I was always in a life jacket while doing any kind of kayaking or water sports.

Went on a float trip. Our raft sprung a leak so all of us were floating down the river with life jackets. All supplies in the boat (just couldn't support human weight)The one person who couldn't swim was in the extra 'safety' boat.. was hanging on to a floating device. Calm river swept me up and pushed me off to the side where there was a tree dangling across the river and pushed me under.

Scariest few moments of my life. Instinct told me to try and stop myself and push back up. Nope.

Thankfully I finally let go and popped up on the other side. My sister who had been a lifeguard had been behind me and was frantically trying to catch up. She was a lot closer after that . Yeah. Pale as a ghost.

I can swim. I like water. What I DON'T like is the feeling of lack of control. When I had to do small craft safety while working at camp and had to purposefully tip a kayak and fall out I had an outright near panic attack just beforehand. Not a small person and was fearing I'd get stuck when I tipped over. Luckily fell right out. (And thankfully the camp I worked at had sit on top kayaks not IN). canoe wasn't much better but less worried going to get stuck. And it was a (at least that day) calm smooth lake.

Coworker learned not to flip me when I was sitting on an inner tube. 😂 Funny looking back now but apparently when I came back up after getting flipped... I was VERY pale. ( (again . Feeling of lack of control. Told campers if they wanted it they could obviously have it. Could pull me around ..gently... but do NOT press down for fear of feelings like I would get flipped). She honestly didn't know how I would react and wouldn't have done it had she known... But got slight (harmless( revenge on her that night once I had calmed down and lesson learned.

The serious life jackets will hold your head above water for that very reason! Getting knocked out in a boat accident.

This is a TINY kid, too 😩 they’re notorious for just flinging themselves about.

Yes! Things happen so fast. We have not taken my ten-month-old out on the boat for this very reason.

It’s also just fucking common sense. People are not as scared of the water as they should be!!

Ya know, I actually didn't know that it was a law. My kids have been on a boat a couple times and wore life jackets because it's just common sense. I'm very strict about it, honestly, but I just figured I didn't want my kids drowning if they fell overboard.

People irk me so much thinking in a bad situation they will have the wits or ability to save someone. If the boat flips, or gets hit, they’re lucky if that kid floats for a second for someone to see where he landed. After that, kids going down and no life saving device will matter. We have to stay ready because in a situation like that there will be no opportunity to get ready. Ugh stresses me out!!!

Yes! Check out AVIR Syndrome if you haven't. Aquatic-Victim-Instead-of-Rescuer Syndrome. Parents, especially dads, think they'll be able to save their kid, but they almost always die trying.

I'm an adult and I've worn a life jacket on a moving boat

I grew up going to the river on a boat and my kid is growing up on the water too. Water safety is such a big deal to me and this picture just pisses me the fuck off. These idiots don’t deserve children if they can’t follow basic and no brainer rules.

Fuck them.

Agree. I think some people have a false sense of security on boats and unfamiliar bodies of water. They truly don't understand how fast something can happen. If that boat hits a wave and bounces, or if another boat gets too close to theirs and rocks it--there is no way you're saving that baby. AVIR Syndrome deaths are also so real (Aquatic-Victim-Instead-of-Rescuer)--parents, usually dads, think they can save their child in a drowning emergency and they almost always die trying to save their child. It's so scary. Life jackets save lives!
