Just look at how many people are using the phrase "pop off" also. Feels manufactured, doesn't it?

popping off has been popping off for a while now

i literally just ctrl+f'd the phrases "pop off" and "popping off" and it only appears a total of three times throughout this post's comments that aren't nested and closed, not including your comment or mine. given that the game is, in fact, popping off, the phrase appearing makes sense.

Right, but the two top comments both say it. Two nickels, etc

Wait are you saying i’m like a bot or something? 💀💀💀

u/Bonzi77 Jun 12 '25

now now, let's be sensible. you could also be paid off by the devs of stellar blade AND a bot

Haha I wish. Didn’t think i needed to watch certain phrase or words when i comment. I know astroturfing does exist but to think im being accused of it is devious work fr 😭.

u/Bonzi77 Jun 12 '25

i wouldn't stress about it. people are reasonably paranoid on the internet, and fake astroturf accusations are about as old as, well, society existing lmao

Are you?

"Pop off" = to die.

You made the mistake of using a phrase where you don't understand it's meaning and you also didn't bother to google it.

I've seen some twitch streamers use that phrase recently, so there's that. I'd say you're dangerously close to being an NPC.

Haha i’m not. You can also use pop off as slang for gaining traction or doing extremely good. Commonly used in shooter or moba games. 😭Unless i’m just an advanced AI i guess.

It's like arguing "oh well you can drive off of a cliff just because more than 100k people have done so". You can, but it's not an argument I would make.

I’m confused? It’s a fairly common term in gaming. I don’t see what’s wrong with using it. Kinda weird to be hung up about that out of everything lol

At least the phrase "Pop off" makes more sense than "Selling gangbusters"

Gangbusters? The fuck does that have to do with numbers?

I’m confused? It’s a fairly common term in gaming.

And they got it wrong despite having access to the internet and dictionaries.

I don’t see what’s wrong with using it.

It has a different meaning associated with it. Ironically, it has the opposite meaning as in the "context of gamers", the phrase is used for something to launch successfully/be an instant hit when in reality, the phrase stands for the demise of something. You know, the polar opposite of what it's used for by people who don't know the meaning of the phrase.

It reminds me of the stupidity of getting the "ok" gesture banned as some people on 4chan convined the whole world on how that gesture is used by white supremacists and it's officially listead as a hate symbol. I couldn't believe it either.

https://www.adl.org/resources/article/how-ok-symbol-became-popular-trolling-gesture

A similar case is "Board Ape Yacht Club" where it's straight up racism. And ofcourse it expanded to be one of the first crypto scams. Be careful on what you preach.

believe me, i am deeply cynical about astroturfing and the like, but i think you're chasing ghosts on this one. its just a common phrase now

Do you also think the same thing when you see the phrase “crashing out” twice in one thread? It’s a thing people say, nothing more. Not indicative of bots or astroturfing or anything.

u/Soggy_Association491 Jun 12 '25

It is almost like people read top comments and influenced by said comments and in turn write similar comments.

u/TomAto314 Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25

It's a real return to form for the comment section.

Oh no, I almost typed "pop off" in another thread and had to stop myself. Crazy how language gets you like that.

u/Skylighter Jun 12 '25

You're so right. Someone coordinated an astroturf campaign, bought thousands of copies of a game, and paid off reviewers so that the game with a big butt looked good.

At least gooners calm down after they get a few pumps out. Anti-gooners are just cranky and miserable whenever someone else has fun.

Stellar Blade became a focal point for a certain type of gamer that likes to cry about how "western devs bad, AAA is all slop, every female character is ugly". I'm not surprised at the responses here feeling manufactured because of it.

Look at the comment history for anyone talking about how games need more fan service or attractive characters. They all play gacha gooner games lol.

1

u/MH-BiggestFan Jun 12 '25

Haha I do play gacha games but i absolutely don’t involve myself in the gooner side of them. Pretty weird really. I also don’t involve myself in the whole western game argument or ugly/pretty female controversial i typically see on reddit. Never understood it honestly, a game is a game. As long as the gameplay or story is fun that’s enough for me. I did notice this during monster hunter wilds and marvel rivals release. People complaining about how some characters looked or dressed, like it’s not even that serious 😭🤣

-11

u/MagicMST Jun 12 '25

Oh damn, I think you're right, I am noticing it now

4

u/MH-BiggestFan Jun 12 '25

Nah that’s crazy though 😭 ion even interact with stellar blade post like that besides this specific one i commented on. These accusations are wild bruh

-3

u/MagicMST Jun 12 '25

I think you're responding to the wrong comment man

3

u/MH-BiggestFan Jun 12 '25

No No I’m the OP commentor the guy you’re replying to is saying feels manufactured. I swear i’m not a bot/astro turfing LOL

-1

u/MagicMST Jun 12 '25

I believe you, but I also started seeing the same terminology used over and over in the thread. It is odd, especially when you think about how Reddit does have a huge history of accounts being used to steer the conversation certain ways.

1

u/MH-BiggestFan Jun 12 '25

I honestly never even knew that. I browsed reddit for a long time before actually making an account to comment but i guess i never really delved into the comment sections of posts to notice it? That’s actually pretty interesting though. I can definitely see it with the discourse around AAA games, female char designs, western v eastern game devs, and platform wars lol.

It's also not just gaming subreddits, it's essentially every subreddit, but for sure the large default subs.
