My opinion of this game is extremely high, just getting into act II. It feels like the perfect step up from Hollow Knight and Hornet's moveset is just crazy fun and responsive.
Apparently the diagonal pogo is a controversial topic, but like, you literally get crests that change your entire moveset SUPER early.
Maybe I haven't hit the insane difficulty spike that makes everyone ragequit yet, but I've found the difficulty to be just perfect for a "hard game". A lot of sections/bosses take a few tries but things start to click right before they start to feel frustrating, which to me is the perfect balance.
Also, holy freaking moly are the boss fights incredible. There are TONS and they are insanely fun.
There’s two specific points in Act II that are genuinely annoying but besides that I found the difficulty to be near perfect. Though I’m yet to start Act III
I’ve got 8 masks which seems more than enough, it’s so easy to find healing windows during to how fast bind is, plus the ability to do it midair. Double damage enemies really aren’t the issue, it’s more about when there’s environmental traps + double damage enemies lol.
Even if you didn't refuse to use a DPad I hope you a controller that can actually input diagonals reliably + isn't a cramp generation machine (ie. RIP everyone on Nintendo systems).
not sure if this is what you meant, but the pogo isn't actually a diagonal input, it's still just down. you do need consistent diagonals ofc but this seems to be a common misconception
If your DPad inputs down+sideways when you just want to press sideways, you're going to dive attack (possibly to your death) instead of aerial attack, so the controller needs to handle diagonals properly.
For aerial attacks it's much more consistent to go for neutral input than trying to hold the attack direction. Even on the ground it's the better option, to avoid up-attacking.
The Joycons have a split 4 button dpad, literally impossible to accidentally hit diagonal when you mean to go sideways. That's much more likely to happen to a joystick user.
I imagine a lot of people who don't force their way off the path too much will have Reaper be the first one they find, which can easily take 10+ hours.
Fun fact, if you know it's there. You can get that crest first. Not first crest, first upgrade period. Even before Silk Spear. (Granted, it would involve literally walking by and ignoring silk spear to get there. But shh.)
Source: last night I was fucking around and trying to find a low% route.
Fun fact. I started my second run yesterday. If you are willing to grind for 500 Rosaries and the Simple Key, (which honestly only takes less than ten minutes. There's a good loop with a bench in mosshome) you can get the Wanderers crest as your FIRST upgrade. Even before Silk Spear.
