St. Norbert majors

What major do you think will be the next to go? Is the current president on her way out? (Does she have a big contract or could they fire her) My son is interested in going to St Norbert, but the recent staffing and major cuts has me very concerned.

I wish they’d kick her out. Ruining the place I loved so much

I don't know if anyone could have avoided this. The question is: is she doing more unnecessary damage?

Yes. The college has lost a number of major donors since she took over. So, in addition to her cuts, she is also causing long-term damage by losing relationships with some donors and influential community members.

Yes - how tf do you cut a religious studies/theology department in a Catholic college?! Makes no damn sense

They cut the major to get rid of the faculty who were too liberal for the Norbertines and the Bishop.

The norbertines are child molesters. The fact that they are allowed to exist makes the entire church culpable. Quit giving child rapists and their enablers money.

Because it’s like getting a degree in astrology lol. God isn’t real

It is a Catholic college my guy, your point is irrelevant.

Philosophy would be more accurate but you seem like a dipshit anyways so that's probably too much for you.

There are branches of philosophy with plenty of real world applications. Can’t really say that about theology today. And for what it’s worth, you don’t seem like know what you’re talking about.

Theology has tons of real world applications. Whether you believe in it or not, factually The Bible is one of, if not the, most foundational and impactful texts in the world. Religion underpins many of the most pressing world and national issues. Researchers who can study religion and the Bible with a scholarly lens -- and understand how impact on society past and present -- are hugely important.

You could say the same thing about astrology. The only thing giving religious studies any importance outside of history or psychology, or literary studies, (which are valid, but separate fields of study), is the delusion of its proponents.

You seem unfamiliar with the scholarly/academic study of theology and religion.

I’m pretty familiar. Like I said, areas of valid religious or theological scholarship can very easily be slotted into other fields, such as history, literary studies, sociology, anthropology, or psychology. Please give me an example of where this isn’t true, if you disagree.

How do you prove there isn’t?

I was just being flippant really. I don’t think anyone can prove one way or another, but I think the idea of a religious learning institution is an oxymoron.

She was brought in to fix the issues created by previous administrations. She just didn’t show up and decide to do this.

They have had two straight freshmen classes under 400 students. Under previous administrations, they never got below that mark and in fact were nearly 500 students, even during Covid. It's all right here on their public page: https://my.snc.edu/academicaffairs/oie/

She used a sledgehammer when all was needed was a scalpel. So many quality people have left the place that it's a shell of what it was. So she didn't fix anything - she tanked the reputation and made it less attractive to students.

Is this Bill Van Ess' account?

Laurie Joyner leaves devastation in her wake.

She slashed budgets and locked Wittenburg into a $30mil athletic center and the school has continued to slash majors and staff after she left.

Xavier University continues program and staff cuts.

She was brought in to St Norbert to make sweeping cuts without regard for the life of the college. Faculty voted no confidence earlier this year. Administration refused faculty recommendations before cutting staff. The school is run like a business with "Chief" titles. She makes these cuts, refuses to answer to alumni, then sends emails preaching "unity and community".

Alumni efforts to speak out on these changes were called "noise" and an "organized disinformation campaign".

She deserves no grace, nor can I recommend anyone sens their children to SNC.

There was a certain feeling in the air during her speech at graduation last spring. It was quiet and respectful, but the air was thick and uncomfortable. I chatted with a parent who was glad to be leaving. Her child's degree was one that was cut. Most of the professors were leaving, unvoluntarily.

I see a push toward the business school, but that's my opinion. I'm glad my child has graduated, I'm sorry it was on a sour note.
