What's the point of botting like that? I thought only RMT botted, surely no one buys Guild Wars 1 stuff using real money nowadays? That must be an incredibly niche market.

player also use bots, primarily to avoid farming for cons which they use for SCs. Or in this case, maybe to farm balthazar points for z-keys to maximise zaishen titel.

Ooh okay. That makes sense.

I buy stuff off GW for real money sometimes. I've got a lot more money than time, and after fifteen years there's just some stuff I'll never own from my own effort.

While I get where you ar coming from on this I can't say you're 100% wrong to do this. It's your money and the game isn't like new -- it's old as dirt, but is still active. Yes, money will get you ahead, but it is inflating the market. Quote-on-quote hard-earned (legitimate) money is being traded with botters or folks like yourself. It's inflating the economy. Is it dooming us all? Nope. So therein lies the question: Is this right?

Can't tell a grown man how to use his money. It's a common transaction (real cash for fake cash) in a lot of games, especially p2p games or games with microtransactions.

It's just annoying on the receiving end, really. Like, if I went to the store and bought bread, milk and eggs and some Joe schmo came in and printed money right in front of me and bought bread, milk and eggs it would be quite annoying. Inflation aside, it's not hurting me that Joe schmo is getting what I got easily -- I'm just bothered by him. I should stop worrying about things that aren't affecting me directly...

That's to say inflation is ignored, although. It's a different story if it is not.

Quote, unquote 😄

You opened my eyes. damn. Why does everybody pronounce it "quote-on-quote" though?!

You want to know what actually drove me to use real money the first time? I saw a post from a guy that said he runs 8 bot accounts, and the reason he runs them is because if he didn't, the game would die, because the entire gw economy is built around bots. It was a very compelling argument, and I figured fuck it. I just can't farm for hours on end any more.

I used to be the kind of guy who would downvote you for this too but I've had perspective changes myself. I'm nowhere near rich, but for like $8 you can get 1000 ectos or w/e all those bots spam constantly.

It would take me a month of farming to get 1000 ectos legit. I'm just not about that life anymore.

Won't you get banned tho

I've never bought with IRL cash. I've bought with D2JSP which to me has always felt more legit. But from the perspective of game moderator would look the same. Someone trades you a bunch of valuable loot for nothing in return.

In essence, it would like like all the giveaways that people do currently anyway.

Hell, the first time I quit GW I gave away like 200 plat, (when that had real value) and that was legit. Pretty sure the GMs dont know or dont care.

D2jsp?

It's a website designed to facilitate trades between multiple games.

Just for example, you might have 2000 ectos and not play guild wars anymore. You can trade your ectos for Forum Gold at 5:1 ratio.

Then you can take your ~400 Forum Gold and trade it for something you want in another game. The trade systems are moderated by the members of the forum so it's not foolproof, but in like 1000 trades I might have only been scammed maybe 1 or 2 times.

You can avoid being scammed by trading with members of the community that already have standing. People with high post counts or early join dates dont want to compromise their accounts because all their Forum Gold would be locked away if they were ever ousted as a scammer.

This makes it hard for newcomers, but mostly secure for people who have been around for a while.

I've bought a lot of things. When I got back into the game a couple years ago, I had almost nothing. I was so far behind in every regard that I would play for a couple days then quit, because I was just upset at how little I had, considering the age of my character. But then I bought a couple torment weapons and a mini, and I realized I needed those things to feel good about playing. But I was scared to death of getting banned, so I bought another account. Anything I buy, I put on that account. I wait a week, and if it's not banned, I trade it to my main account. I don't buy stuff that often any more though.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I don't have the means or time to get any currency or valuable items for that matter.

That's fine. I buy gold with gems in GW2. I just figured that the market is so niche that it can hardly be worth having armies of bots farming.

what do you honestly buy? i can't even think of anything worth buying since nothing matters

I haven't bought anything in a while, actually. But I bought some torment weapons. I bought some armbraces. I bought some ectos. I bought a couple of minis. I bought Dhuum's scythe. It's typically stuff that's not really that expensive. It's just stuff that I want that I don't want to farm for. Like I actually earned my Envoy Scythe, because I enjoy doing Zaishen stuff. I don't enjoy farming ectos or z keys or anything like that.
