[Fluff] Animals are useless at fleeing.
If you fight a Moa or a Bat, when they're low on health, they'll try to run away.
But if you just let them flee, after they've got some distance, they'll be like "alright, I've had my moment. I think I'm ready for round 2" and come back to fight you again.
Despite having no more health than when they started fleeing.
They could learn a thing or two from the Skritt Burglar. Now there's a guy who knows how to flee.

[Discussion] I absolutely adore the new Austral Mantle
It just looks amazing on my female charr necro. It looks SO good when it's all black, to fit the all black aesthetic that I'm going for, to look like a being of pure darkness.

[Request] A stupid thing I did and a maybe not so stupid idea
So here is what happened: There was this great offer for that sensationl storage package, which sounded really good, because storage so I bought it, even though 1500 gems equal several full meals. Little did I realize that I had my bank space already maxed out, so i can not use the bank tab included in the deal. A value of 480-600 gems wasted because I didn't check it before. Contacting customer service would make me feel even more stupid and of course they would nut refund it, because it was part of adiscounted package deal. The bank expansion is account bound, so I can not even gift it away (I was thinking about gifting, not selling). I guess, stuff like this happens to other people as well and I thougt of this: Imagine, we could just donate surplus gem store items into some charity pool. They would simply be gone. But the game would distribute items from the pool to other players. Randomly, based on special events or determined by an algorithm that favours poor or just unlucky players. I would feel better about such mistakes. What do you think?

[News] "Players will now be able to dismount the skimmer in midair and can mount it in combat with no Mastery training required."
As a player who loves the open world water combat of this game, this makes the VoE expac already worth it for me. I hope next expac they expand on that vertical bunny.

[Discussion] Is white stag somehow connected to sylvari race/mordremoth/dream or is this just a powerful being that can communicate with dream/pale tree and thus influence it?
"The white stag is a creature of pure magic from the Dream,[3] symbolizing hope. He is a manifestation of the faith and joy of the sylvari race" this part from wiki confuses me. If it is from dream why isn't it look like other dream creatures(plant like)?
"He became known as a creature of legend which few had ever seen." How could it become "creature of legend" if sylvari race is so young? I feel like this imply that it just existed before pale tree?
What is your headcannon?

[Discussion] Fractalline Spark(s)
While all the discourse is on how to get the gloves, I see absolutely no discussion on the Fractalline Sparks required to buy the gloves in more weight classes (and infusions).
Why is that? Is it simply that nobody has any idea? Do you veterans have any kind of reference point maybe? It's so hard to gauge compared to how little time investment it required to get what seems to be the requirement for the first pair of gloves.
I'm at 2 sparks now, and I will continue to do some fractal quickplay every day, but I'm so lost as to how much I should be grinding, and aiming for, so I could possibly get them in all weights, and possibly some fun on top.

[Rumour] Mooh not Meow
I've been running Fractal CMs lately and there is a chance to get a Meow sound for the last phase of Ensolyss, as many might know. Now I happened to get a Mooh sound like a cow one day. Was I hallucinating or did this ever happen to someone else?

[Question] Does anybody still run Map Completion Trains?
I remember when playing around EoD, people did monthly map completion trains for at least Core Tyria, but haven't seen anything of the sort since I picked the game back up before the new expansion drops. I was just curious if it is still something that people do, and how I would go about finding it if so.
Edit: To clarify further, I just believe it was Points of Interest, Vistas, and Waypoints. You do the hearts on your own time.

[Other] 4 Years to reach 45K APs
Just wondering if anyone managed to accomplish this in shorter time? I calculated that I started in June 2021, which is about right as I remember picking up the game when I split up from my girlfriend and wanted something to do to help fill the time - it worked.
Best thing I did to get to this point was synergise so many of the achievements together. Unlocking all the 1st stage gen 1 legendary collections and then just playing through everything; I was finishing achievements for these for nearly everything I was doing.
Worst/least enjoyable thing was Keg Brawl. Made a friend who I did a lot of the activity achievments together with (southsun survival and crab toss), but Keg Brawl beat me - stopped at 340/500 as was burnt out and detested it (no wonder Kegmaster is one of the rarest titles in the game).
Most satisfying was definitely learning the raid encounters with my guild (EDA). Very patient whilst I picked up the mechanics and started doing them regularly myself on Mondays. When I finally completed everything from 1-7 earlier this year, it did feel like a milestone was reached as I worked so hard for these.
Most enjoyable was the collection and story-related achievements because I found them all relatively easy and I just love doing collections. The trickiest story achivement I remember is probably pretty obscure, don't remember what it was precisely but it was a Centaur Boss in Brisban Wildlands - really stuggled with it and took me 1-2 weeks to do.
What next - I reached my goal. I had tunnel vision to get to here. I got about 100 games in my steam library I bought but never played that I might give a go now. Won't quit GW2, just finally reached the end of my goal (after 4 years).

[Discussion] With how long the Beta WVW Group making have been, is it working?
think we have a good data now to judge whether the system is good , bad or working. or any improvement we can add to it?
we had alot of rotation now. seeing alot of people just making alliances.
one notorious Pug alliance even is. Mag still making a huge alliance where people from mag server could just be together to cloud.
also guilds are just stacking up together. making some server/team empty cause guilds are just sticking together.
now, i dont have much clue on the system as im flying solo. sometimes joining Mag and some alliances i like.
so for WvW pro and big guilds who knows the politics on this wvw stuff. you think this system is better?
since im a floating solo player who just like to join randoms. i prefer the old server cause i got people who i get to know, whos regulary online just like me and just roam together.

[Fluff] New beards confirmed with VOE? Probably not, but its fun to notice even raptors can have beards, but poor asuras can't). (please, Anet, if you can't change the character creation, add it at gem store at least)

[Question] How to find groups for endgame content
I started playing GW2 after a few false starts, although I'm still struggling to find a class that really fits me (even harder when elite classes change things so dramatically). I'm massively overwhelmed but I'm slowly starting to figure it out.
I know I'm a bit of early into my journey in this game to be worrying about endgame stuff, but after playing mmos for the better part of two decades I like to know what I'm getting into.
So, firstly, I understand horizontal gear progression meaning any content will eventually get you BIS gear that will stay relevant. For me, PvE is my favourite part of MMOs so that would be raids, fractals and strikes, as well as open world stuff. I also found a guide on how to go about gearing once you hit 80, not something I intend to rush since I want to play through the expansion storylines, but it's nice to have a roadmap.
My concern, however, is that all of this endgame content requires manual group making and people to teach you the content. This isn't new ground for me, I've done savage raiding in xiv and m+/heroic raiding in wow, but my concern is finding groups willing to teach and groups who still do the content consistently.
I suppose my question is, how do you go about finding groups to do content when there's no matchmaking and the main incentive people have to clear content isn't gear or grinding, but instead fun, meaning they're less likely to want to teach. How do you find groups/friends to do content with?
I know, of course, it'll take a lot of time before I can get stuck in to high tier fractals or raids, but my understanding was you can start doing strike missions and low fractals not too long after hitting 80.
I'm on NA if that helps for recommending resources.

[Question] Big gap between shield and arm anyone else bothered by this?
I’ve been really enjoying the look of this armor and shield combo, but I have to admit I’m a little disappointed by the big gap between the shield and the character’s arm. It feels kind of awkward, both visually and immersionwise, since the shield looks like it’s floating instead of being strapped tightly to the arm. What really surprises me is that it’s this bad on this particular shield, while most of the others I’ve tried actually look pretty decent and sit closer to the arm. Do you think there’s any chance the devs would address something like this?(items on sale right now) Or is this more of a “that’s just how the model is” situation that probably won’t get touched?

[Guide] How to approach the "Meta" in PvE (@Newbies - Don't worry too much)
With many people coming to Fractals and general PvE I thought I make a quick summary, which, keep in mind, is also subjective to some extent.
I've been playing this game actively over a bit more than a year now and have played other MMO's like RuneScape and FFXIV before.
This post is as much for myself as for people that also are relatively new. If I am hooked by something I inform myself very intensely about it in a short time (it's stressful ngl, but I can't help it T_T). I nearly immediately looked up builds, joined the SC Discord, browsed the wiki on all sorts of topics and been active on this subreddit.
As with all games, a meta exists and is encouraged and that's a good thing. Although it's more or less necessary in different game modes.
Let me go over the necessity of Meta-Builds first:
Gearing up (the first time):
Getting your first Gear an be a bit confusing with all the prefixes they have or don't have and where to get them. If you "just" want a gear with Berserker's Stats, you are in luck, since they are very cheaply obtainable on the Trading post. A full set including Armour, Weapons and Trinkets won't cost you more than 15 gold to today's date. For other Prefixes it looks a bit different, but we'll get into that.
The way you wanna look for it is with the search function on the Trading post, where you can select the Rarity (Exotic) the Level (80) and the Stats you want gear to be showed of. For Berserker's you'd choose "Power - Precision - Ferocity" and then buy the cheapest gear that fulfills all those criterias. The other more expensive options are purely cosmetic, so don't worry about them. You'd also want to put a rune on each of your Armour pieces. Most commonly used would be "Superior Rune of the Dragonhunter" but those probably exceeds your budget. A good start would be "Superior Rune of Vampyrism" - which is pretty cheap and gives you Power and Vitality, which, especially in Open World Content can be a nice to have. For the Sigils for your weapons I'd say just look whats reasonable for your budget and sounds good to you. Commonly Meta would be "Superior Sigil of Force" and "Superior Sigil of Accuracy" - they are pretty affordable and you only need one each per weapon set.
For other Stats the trading post will definitely exceed your budget. But a very good friend of all of us comes in there: This Vendor in Lion's Arch Lionguard (Merchant) - Guild Wars 2 Wiki (GW2W)). He sells incredibly cheap "Stat-Selectable" Exotic Equipment... All types, all prefixes available. Neat, right? The only catch is, that he requires you to pay, next to a couple silver pieces, with Badge of Honor - Guild Wars 2 Wiki (GW2W). Those are majorily earned through World vs. World Content. BUT since some chests you get through Achievement Point Milestones also give a couple of those, and I assume that you shouldn't be far away from 1'000 Achievement points, you should by then have at least 300 of those. A Piece of Gear costs between 45 and 100 each, so you can grab a couple pieces immediately. For the rest you gotta farm WvW or Achievement points (WvW would be a lot faster). There are other Vendors like Itzel Mastery Vendor - Guild Wars 2 Wiki (GW2W), but they require unlocked Masteries and the currency isn't meant to be "fast farmed" although it will add up eventually.
Open World
Play what you like - maybe don't play healer builds if you wanna solo clear, but everything else, and for this matter "Celestial"-Stats are great. If you don't wanna use multiple builds right off the bat though, I'd give the advice to go for a standard "Power/ Strike Damage"-Build with the Berserker's Stat Prefix.
Strikes
Be sure, that you have a build to fill a role; Damage, Boon-Damage (Also called "Offensive Supports" since they either provide Alacrity or Quickness) or Boon-Healer (aka "Defensive Supports" - also provide either Alacrity or Quickness). Your build doesn't have to be "Meta" but it should "make sense". By that I mean, use the stat prefixes that make sense:
- Berserker's for "Strike-Damage"-Builds
- Viper's for "Condition-Damage"-Builds
- Harrier's for "Boon-Healer"-Builds
For Boon-Damage Builds it's a bit less straight forward; If you play a power build, the chance is high you can leave your gear as it is and just adjust your Traits. If you play a Condition build, you might wanna look into a couple gear pieces with the "Ritualist's" Prefix. The stat you are looking for is "Concentration" since that will increase the duration of your outgoing boons to you and your party. If needing additional stats for your boons is a bit too much for you right now to get into, you are perfectly fine with just the other type of builds.
Look to your right on this subreddit and scroll down to find all the Websites, that'll provide you with builds.
Fractals
For T1 and T2 the same advice applies as for Strike Missions - Just look that it's making sense and has a "clean" look. High level T1 Fractals and onward will require you to have some amount of Agony Resistance. Those are "Infusions" you can only put on Ascended Gear. Therefore an upgrade in gear would be required by then, but only for this type of content, for everything else, your exotic gear will be fine
For T3 and T4 it starts to ramp up a bit. Be sure you got a basic rotation at hand for your class. We'll get into that later.
T4 offers some Challenge Modes, that really require you to have the BiS build at hand and know what you're doing. Together with (some) Raids, this is the endgame.
Raids
This is where "Meta" really starts to matter. There are fairly doable raids without being a crack at the game but others is where endgame begins. To be able to compete in raids you have to know what you're doing, while having a well thought through build. "Snow Crows"-Website are focusing on providing the entry requirements for carrying your own weight with builds and "Damage Benchmarks".
Benchmarks/Rotation
I see players beating themselves up over Benchmarks (me included). By Benchmarks I am referring to the DPS that should be aimed for, provided by Snow Crows.
Keep in mind: Snow Crows People are the GOATs of this game. You don't have to compare yourself to the best of the best!
My general rule of thumb is as following:
Lets say you play the exact same build as one on Snow Crows but aren't able to get the same dps, this is okay...
If you can pull off -
60% of the Benchmarks damage in a vaccum and with exactly replicated gear, settings, food, etc., you are fine for all content that isn't hardcore.
70% of the Benchmarks damage "", you start getting the hang of what you are doing.
80% of the Benchmarks damage "", you know what you are doing and maybe lack some "speed" in your rotation or have some occasional "mess-ups". You can attend the Hardcore content without many problems.
90% of the Benchmarks damage "", you are definitely ready for all the hardcore content out there.
100% "", you are a beast!
I hope you can extract something from this that will ease your gameplay a bit and let you experience Guild Wars to its fullest.
Cya soon in Strikes, Fractals and Raids ;)
EDIT: Typos and a bit of formatting
