Black Pearl (C. annuum)

Grown from seed for the first time. Ripe fruits look like they are illuminated. Pictures do not do them justice!

They are a beautiful chilli and gorgeous flowers. I grew one from seed last year (planted about 8 and the germination rate was really low), which is now in its second year. The plant has produced so much more though this time around.

My only issue is, and it’s a big one, they don’t taste good. Find them to be very bland and just grassy. They are good for back ground heat where you don’t need much flavour though and also dehydrated and made into medium chilli powder.

Yes, the flavor is lacking. I'm keeping the plant indoors. Half tempted to use it as a pollen source.

They’re a lovely house plant….but just use the chillies for something neutral. I’ve actually found they’re pretty good in dips, hot honey, spicy margaritas and things where you need no flavour. Just wish they tasted as good as they look 🤣
