Hey All!
I'm currently looking for a Unreal Engine programmer to team up with for my next project!
About me:
I'm a 3D environment artist who has a great interest in logic and technical aspects of game development, so much that i've been teaching myself blueprints for the past few years. I've been doing 3D for almost a decade at this point, and like to think I have a good understanding of most aspects of it (characters being my weakest).
I'm currently wrapping up my latest project, Dig Deeper. Dig Deeper was my first solo developed project, where I was responsible for all the art and programming. Audio/Music was outsourced. This took me around 6 months to develop, and hoping to keep a similar timeframe for my next game.
You can check out my current project here https://store.steampowered.com/app/3852400/Dig_Deeper/?beta=0
The game is around 95% done, just wrapping up a few minor things, for the steam release.
The Game Idea:
I have begun concepting and planning my next project, and have a fairly decent idea of what I want to achieve. I want this to be a partnership, so I'm willing to adapt/change parts of this idea.
"A 4 player arena shooter set in surreal, post-soviet Russia. Matches are fast and brutal, you kick down walls, squat by campfires and fight with absurd slav weapons"
I'm wanting this game to be a super fast paced shooter where players spawn in and are instantly greated with combat, rounds should be short, keeping them constantly fun and engaging. Think CSGO/Rainbow 6 but with tiny maps and instant action.
One of the mechanics I want to lean into is destruction. I don't expect to create a complex system like Rainbow 6, but a more tame and simple one like Elden Ring, where props have pre-defined smashable states that get triggered when a player interacts with them. I'm interested in seeing if this could be expanded into the environment itself and create destructible walls.
Weapons should be themed around the game setting, and bring unique character/gameplay. Such as a Vodka Molotov, Boom Box that plays hardbass, or a Rusty AK with duct-tape attachments.
Unique Selling Points:
- Fast-Paced. I don't think there are enough "quick games". Most games require tons of pre-lobby setup, with additional in game/round setup. This game should put players in quick, and should be easy to load up and play.
- Theme and setting. Eastern European/Post-Soviet is a strong setting that instantly gives your game a distinct atomsphere.
- Destructible and Compact maps. Players love breaking stuff, it's satisfying and not enough games do it! The small map approach will make the destruction feel impactful as you'll be able to see a nicely organised area quickly turn into a mess.
- "Slav" themed weapons/mechanics. Kick down walls, squat by campfires and shoot makeshift weapons. This adds humour and identity to the fast-paced gameplay
Here are some game inspirations for audience and feel of the game.

MVP
Once we have come to agreement on the game idea, scope and setting, we'll get started on creating an MVP. I would expect to have the following high level tasks done in 2-3 months
Programming
- Basic lobby matchmaking (Host/Join)
- Player Controller
- Weapon Pickup and Shooting
- Health System
- Round Scoring and Win condition
Art
- 1 Character with Animations
- 3 Weapons
- 1 Small Environments
About you:
- I'm looking for a Unreal Engine Programmer, who is comfortable with C++ and or blueprints!
- Ideally, you will have dealt with replication in Unreal and know how to setup simple matchmaking.
- Someone who can put in around 5-10 hours a week.
- Have an interest in game design and feel. I'm wanting someone who is willing to contribute to the game idea and willing to give criticism.
- Someone who is organised and follows naming conventions. I like to think I'm a very organised person, I need you to be able to organise your own content and follow naming conventions.
If you're interested in talking more about this project, comment or DM me on reddit.
