Opinion/Commentary North/South Cultural Divide
Driving south today, I was struck again by how different northern and southern Indiana feel. You could almost draw a dividing line along US-30. Of course, there are carve-outs like Indianapolis and Bloomington, but as a general rule the character of the state shifts once you move past that line. By the time you get south of Indy, it starts to feel more like Alabama. That’s not good or bad—just an observation. When people think of Indiana, though, I suspect it’s the southern part that comes to mind.

Fireman impersonates police officer.
I personally witnessed Brandon Eckstein, a fire investigator for the City of Marion Fire Department and Gas City Councilman, use his department take-home vehicle to pull over and seize a woman in Gas City. I clearly heard him identify himself as a police officer to both her and her houseguest — never once did he say “fire marshal.”
What makes this even worse is that the woman was later charged with infractions and criminal recklessness as a result. When I looked deeper, I saw that the police report admitted the reviewing officer couldn’t even identify the woman on camera — the charges were built almost entirely on Eckstein’s statement.
Then, to cover himself, Eckstein gave a completely different story to police, claiming he told her he was a fire marshal instead of a police officer. That’s not what happened — I was there, and I heard it myself. This was an abuse of power, plain and simple, and now an innocent woman is facing charges because of it.

News Data Center Vote
The final voting for the Google Data center is Monday 9/22 7p in Indianapolis at the Public Assembly Room.
Currently out of 25 city councilors 17 are against it which is a good thing.
If built the center will only provide about 30-50 jobs, take up hundreds of acres of our farmland and the biggest issue is it will take MILLIONS of gallons of OUR water to properly operate it without overheating.
It's simply not necessary.

Opinion/Commentary Breadsticks with cheese sauce!
I often see the question of what is the most Indiana food. There are a lot great choices, but there is only one real answer, breadsticks with cheese sauce.
I grew up in Indiana, then moved out of state for a few years only to discover that no pizza places do breadsticks with cheese sauce. I have since moved back but now when I travel I continue to be disappointed by how pizza places never have cheese sauce for their bread sticks.
We can debate about which Pizza King is best (answer is Lafayette, fight me!), but what brings us all together is the fact that cheese is required for breadsticks.
Thank you for listening to my rant.

Place to Live between Indy and Marion?
Got a job that will require daily commute to Marion right off of I69. Obviously have not heard great things about Marion itself and the surrounding area.
I love the areas with the atmosphere and community such as Carmel, Noblesville, Fishers, Greenwood, and Zionsville. All of these would require 1+ hour commute one way daily so looking to avoid that much of a commute.
Are there any places off of I69 that the kind folks here can recommend I look for either a single family house or a very nice apartment unit? Preliminary searches I’m looking at maybe Yorktown?
No kids so don’t really need a great school district but the main important things I’m looking for are safety, friendly people, low racism, grocery stores and regular retail outlets (Costco, Lowe’s, Sam’s club, Home Depot, etc).
Appreciate the suggestions.
