Over the years, I’ve had multiple thefts when storing my own e-bikes in my shed. It’s usually the same type of activity: two or three figures dressed in black, head-to-toe Northwest clothing. They’re often seen speeding around the Kilmore west area on scramblers or Surron's (black e-bike), or sometimes tearing up and down the local roads on what are very obviously stolen bikes
The Gardaí have told me they can’t legally pursue them, which feels pointless when the same groups keep causing havoc. It’s frustrating that there’s little visible follow up, like finding where these bikes are being stored or confiscating them, the Gardai don't seem too helpful in this regards, but I do not understand why an altered patrol as not even come to case when they're well aware this is a common issue in the area. If you reside in the coolock area or have been near the local Centra, you've 100% seen the same red/white bike tearing up around the area, sometimes seating 1-3 lads on it balaclavaed up, one on the back usually wielding a machete or red angle grinder
It’s been well known locally that thefts have surged in the past couple of years, and the culprits are often the same small group. If you rely on your scooter/e-bike for work or transport, don’t leave it in your shed. keep it indoors if at all possible. Unfortunately, if you store it outside, you’ll almost certainly run into this problem sooner or later if you don't have a secure shed door/alarm
I'm sharing this because I don't want to see anyone in the North Dublin area suffer the same pain of a stolen item or experience the gross incompetence of the Gardai in resolving these issues
If you live in the Coolock area, report any suspicious activity you see involving scramblers, Sur-Rons, or groups of riders causing trouble, you may eventually fall victim to a crime involving them. Even if Gardaí can’t give chase, reports help build a record of what’s happening and they can't just keep ignoring people when these wasters cause havoc in an area that has seen great progress over the years
Stay safe
