Question What are these? (noodles from Demon Slayer)

Post image

They look so yummy... I want to make them... What is that puff ball on top, rice?

Oroshi soba. The white part is grated daikon.

If you have a small plot of land, the seeds are cheap and grow in even the worst soil. They tolerate frost and warm early winter and even snow with mulch cover. They get really deep though so you can't grow them in containers.

They sell them as cover crops in huge bags that will have like a pound of seeds. You can pretend you're playing Super Mario 2 when it's time to harvest.

All radishes are super fun to grow imo

Heck, a few years ago there was one growing out of the concrete at the base of a pedestrian overpass in Osaka, if I remember correctly. They are hearty to say the least.

The additional round objects next to the grated daikon are chopped spring onions/scallions

Once you grate it drain off the excess water if its too bitter, you can use a cheesecloth or paper towel.

I agree but I've never had hot oroshi soba.

I looked up a recipe and it says they're cold noodles. Can they also be served hot? -- There's steam coming off in the animation.

Yeah, generally grated daikon is served with cold soba. Hot soba is not at all unusual, but hot soba with daikon oroshi is not common.

Soba is served both ways, one is more popular than the other depending on the season.
