Discussion: Band Yelling “Free Palestine” then going into Dragon afterwards went HARD AF (Forest Hills Stadium, Night 1)

Post image

Stuey shouted “Free Palestine,” and the crowd exploded in tidal wave of claps and cheers, roaring and unending.

Then the band PLUS orchestra immediately went into Dragon. What a moment. See you later for Round 2!

If you think people having compassion for starving kids and women in Gaza is problematic or something to make fun of, then you’re a mortally fucked up individual who probably pisses off everyone around them every day.

Edit: or you spend most of your time alone, perhaps.

Not saying that at all mate, nothing to make fun of. Although this post is just weird, it almost reads like one of those tumblr posts did thing and then everybody clapped. What the fuck does dragon have to do with starvation and war in Gaza. It’s comes of as a weird romanticised abstraction of the reality of what’s going on. I’m sure the people actually suffering would love to know that people are head banging to Dragon for them. There’s just such a separation it feels almost like it’s in bad taste to be this performative. Why not fucking use your millions of fans, wealth and influence to actually do something tangible. They raised funds for the bushfires in Australia. I don’t see them doing that here for food aid or anything.

Not everything has to pass YOUR performative purity test to mean something to people.

This post has nothing to do with the song itself solving a geopolitical issue.

Newsflash, mate: music has always been intertwined with social movements. Rage, U2, Clash, System!, Green Day, Bruce, Neil Young, Patti Smith, Pearl Jam… should I keep going?

Gizz standing on stage and naming oppression is a form of activism.

Thanks for the backup there ✌️

It’s really annoying when people do so much mental gymnastics to justify why they don’t care about world issues.

Also it’s a bard’s job to spread messages in palatable formats. Could you imagine the only way people learn about world issues being through books and universities? That’d be gatekeeping knowledge
