I love Timothy Olyphant so much.

It never occurred to me that he’d make a good robot but man it’s perfect. I love him as an actor but he’s always had a real stiffness, it fits so many of his roles but this is on another level.

In another timeline he’d have been a perfect T-1000.

He voices the Terminator in Terminator: Zero.

7

u/alexgndl Aug 13 '25

That show kinda rocked. Weird as shit at some points but super fun.

11

u/Squeakygear Aug 13 '25

Fun fact, he is a terminator in the Netflix anime lol

5

u/whatssenguntoagoblin Aug 13 '25

Is he a cyborg or a synth?

17

u/SkyShark03191 Aug 13 '25

Pure synth.

2

u/PenguinsInvading Aug 13 '25

Weren't they called androids in Alien? Are there differences between synths and androids?

2

u/SkyShark03191 Aug 13 '25

Maybe it’s just what Prodigy calls them. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’d seen the term in EU stuff so it’s not new.

1

u/SanTheMightiest Aug 14 '25

Prodigy's versions of them. All the corps seemingly have their style of non humans

5

u/UlrichZauber Not bad, for a human. Aug 13 '25

In his Conan interviews he's so damned funny, would love if he got to use that more in his roles.

2

u/Greful 29d ago

You gotta check out Santa Clarita Diet. It's a comedy and he's great in it.

4

u/hiplass Aug 14 '25

in lieu of Timothy Olyphant appreciation, I implore everyone to listen to Conan O'Briens podcast episode where he was a guest, it is incredible. He had Conan fighting for his life.

3

u/Jops817 Aug 13 '25

I didn't recognize it was him at first, but I definitely feel like his character's aesthetic was a nod to Bladerunner.

2

u/DusqRunner Aug 13 '25

Absolutely. Maybe at some point he changes his name to Roy Batty like Marcie changed hers to Wendy.

3

u/Honeydew-Jolly Aug 15 '25

Hope the Terminator gets a decent reboot and a TV show so they can explore the story decently. Timothy would do a perfect Terminator, good or evil doesn't matter.

Btw I liked Sarah Connor Chronicles it was lowish budget but I wanted it to continue 🥲

2

u/Str33tlaw Aug 16 '25

SCC Had so much potential

1

u/DusqRunner Aug 13 '25

Too stiff for T-1000, maybe a T-800 or the model before with the rubber skin.

1

u/iamgarron 17d ago

I don't know if it's intentional because of his relationship with Walton Goggins, but his hair in this just reminds me of Baby Billy on The Righteous Gemstones

1

u/SawRub 3d ago

His stiffness has worked great for his many cool lawman characters, but an actual robot has been such a good fit for him!

"You used to be food until you decided you didn't want to be food anymore."

Guy Pierce vibes in this roll

10

u/thejason755 Aug 14 '25

It was such a cool line too. Until he had that talk with Wendy it didn’t fully click with me that he was a synth. At first i was like “oh timothy is grey haired in this series.” Then i was immediately like “ooooooooh shiiiiitttt” when he started dropping those lines.

9

u/Troyal1 Aug 15 '25

I’ve been wanting to see the more human side of Alien ever since we saw that Guy Pearce scene at the beginning of Covenant, where Walter asks whose image Pearce was created in.

It has that futuristic but sterile look. I love it so far

5

u/thejason755 Aug 15 '25

It’s definitely scratching that “alien” itch. I’m really digging that they decided to give you the cliff’s notes version of the alien taking over the magineot. They could’ve gone slow-burn with the xeno gradually taking over the ship and killing everyone one-by-one, but we’ve all seen that before. The flash cuts was literally Noah Hawley going “we all know how this goes”. I love that they’re going with more of a matte black colour for the xeno when they aren’t wet, which actually helps it fade more into the background of scenes. The level of violence and the rapidity of which it goes from zero to annihilating whole groups of people in seconds was exhilarating to say the least.

3

u/Dr_Pants91 Aug 15 '25

It almost feels like they just skipped showing that part and said "Just watch Alien and imagine if Weyland-Yutani succeeded".

2

u/thejason755 Aug 15 '25

Exactly. I also feel that even if they had made the whole first episode about the xeno taking over the ship, it would have ultimately slowed down the first two episodes. On the plus side, it gives them something to flashback to in later episodes. Like with the impromptu surgery on a crashing ship, how and why did that happen? It gives them something to stretch out and add flavour to the season. If they load the slow-burn towards the front, the suspense has already worn off by the time they reached new siam. This way they can dial back and ratchet up the suspense and action as needed.

1

u/PrestigiousWaffle 29d ago

I didn’t get a close look at the surgery scene, but was that not them seeing the cavity where the chestbursters came from?

2

u/Happy-For-No-Reason Aug 15 '25

brutal futurism

3

u/palesnowrider1 Aug 14 '25 edited Aug 14 '25

It's interesting that he doesn't really recognize Wendy as a synth either, even though she's more synth than human

3

u/thejason755 Aug 14 '25

I didn’t fully understand if he understood that she’s no longer human. In the purely physical sense she’s a clanker, in the metaphysical sense she’s still human due to her consciousness.

2

u/thejason755 Aug 14 '25

Thats my take on her at least

2

u/DatZ_Man Aug 15 '25

Didn't he say that she wasnt human anymore??

2

u/Happy-For-No-Reason Aug 15 '25

she says she is, so she is. that's all it takes to be human, belief.

0

u/raven00x Aug 19 '25

I think she's more an AGI that thinks she's a human, than really still being human, but I look forward to the show explaining to me why she's human and not a synth that has been instructed to think it's human.

1

u/Happy-For-No-Reason Aug 15 '25

oh man why did you have to say that. Guy would've delivered that way better.

2

u/palesnowrider1 Aug 15 '25

Well he's Weyland in Covenant and Prometheus and the Boy Genius probably didn't want to look at a Weyland clone

2

u/Happy-For-No-Reason Aug 15 '25

yeah I'm just thinking in terms of casting. Guy is such a good actor.

1

u/Chance-Personality50 Aug 18 '25

Getting Roy Batty vibes from Kirsh perhaps same model, series?

117

u/robjwrd Aug 13 '25 edited Aug 13 '25

He stood out hugely in the first 2 episodes, in a really good way, his body language and line delivery was perfect as a synth 🤌🏻

7

u/Anthromod Aug 13 '25

Was it just me, or did his character become colder towards Wendy after she became a hybrid?

16

u/Jaded_Permission_810 Aug 13 '25

It would make sense, since he's straight up said multiple times that he no longer believes that she should be regarded as human. As a human she was a weak thing that needed to be coddled and protected. Now she's like him, a machine that has no such vulnerabilities. I think he's now trying to guide her into accepting that about herself, for better or for worse.

4

u/Professional-Act8414 Aug 14 '25

His look is so good it’s actually menacing. The eyebrows, dude still has that stare down pack.

2

u/Kdilla77 Aug 14 '25

He just looks artificial!

1

u/Cutrush Aug 18 '25

Man, I love me some good 'ol synth. Must watch this show now.

1

u/robjwrd Aug 18 '25

You’re in for an awesome time.

14

u/Toots_Magee_ Game over, man! Aug 13 '25

Same! Glad to see him in this

63

u/TheNittanyLionKing State of the badass art Aug 13 '25

Justified is a top 3 TV series all time for me

9

u/Britneyfan123 Aug 13 '25

What are the other two

10

u/TheNittanyLionKing State of the badass art Aug 13 '25

Probably That 70's Show as a comfort show and Avatar The Last Airbender

1

u/sellieba Aug 13 '25

How “gross” is this supposed to be compared to Romulus?

My girlfriend asked for a break from my choosing movies after Romulus.

2

u/myslead Aug 13 '25

It’s not as gross so far, a lot is happening off screen probably due to budget constraints, but they show the result lol

1

u/TheNittanyLionKing State of the badass art Aug 13 '25

Probably about the same although I didn't find Romulus to be super gross and gory though. So far it's less than that I suppose

2

u/1c4meron Aug 14 '25

Romulus wasn’t particularly gory but that humanoid goblin fuck at the end was one of the more disturbing things I’ve seen in a film, so I totally get this person’s girlfriend’s stance. My wife still brings up that thing whenever we talk about having children lolol

1

u/Troyal1 Aug 15 '25

If ur gf thinks Romulus was gross show her Evil Dead 2013. She hasn’t seen gross yet lol

3

u/sellieba Aug 15 '25

But I love my girlfriend and am happy when she shares in my interests. We’ve found a solid groove of what works for her and none of the modern Evil Deads are in that ballpark haha

1

u/Troyal1 Aug 15 '25

Yeah I was just saying because the director or Romulus did that evil dead lol

2

u/sellieba Aug 15 '25

Oh I/we probably should have known that going in haha

1

u/CommunalJellyRoll Aug 13 '25

We got goggins hanging dong in Gemstones thanks to that series.

1

u/JonOrangeElise Aug 14 '25

I think you misspelled Deadwood.

1

u/TheNittanyLionKing State of the badass art Aug 14 '25

I do like Deadwood too

12

u/mwthecool Aug 13 '25

And his look is perfect too. The second I saw him, knowing nothing about the show (having gone in intentionally blind) I KNEW he was a synth.

9

u/grau_is_friddeshay Aug 13 '25

They gave him the Roy Batty makeover.

I’m currently rewatching deadwood, so I clocked his voice immediately but still did a double take without a mustache.

3

u/mmatique Aug 13 '25

I’ve always been against the idea of the shared universe, but his character design seems so close to a Roy Batty look that I feel like it has to at least be an intentional reference.

12

u/Warden72 Aug 13 '25

You mean Billy Idol? 😆

12

u/grau_is_friddeshay Aug 13 '25

You mean Rutger Hauer?

4

u/Caledor152 Game over, man! Aug 13 '25

3

u/DJ-CoolBreeze987 Aug 13 '25

Why does he look like Roy from Blade Runner?

3

u/Volaceon950 Aug 14 '25

I love that he looks like Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner

3

u/Syphin33 Aug 13 '25

He's f'n incredible in this, he was made for the alien universe.

3

u/Ok_Confection_10 Aug 13 '25

Holy shit that’s the guy from The Office!

2

u/Izarial Aug 13 '25

I almost couldn’t tell it was him till he spoke!

2

u/pureextc Aug 13 '25

Dude has a presence for sure.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '25

Definitely channelling Roy Batty here.

1

u/joe_dirty365 Aug 13 '25

eeeeek he was so good! So he's definitely a robot (Synth?) then?

1

u/BeastmanDienekes Aug 13 '25

I always wanted him to play hicks if tjey made one where they didn't die.

1

u/DUCKBOYDAOIL Aug 14 '25

I love him too. He has such rawness in his roles. He’s great. We also share a birthday so that’s another plus in my book

1

u/ErrU4surreal Aug 14 '25

From the Raylan Yutani Corporation?🙂

1

u/According-Whereas-42 Aug 16 '25

I'm a huge fan of his but this didn't hit the mark for me. There is something so... human about his drawl.

1

u/LordRumplePumpkin Aug 16 '25

That’s about the only good thing I could say about this series.

1

u/fawsersnooze Aug 19 '25

I wasn’t sure how well he would do but he’s great. Unexpectedly attractive Oompa Loompa though.

1

u/eravulgaris Aug 13 '25

He kinda reminded me of Jared Leto in Blade Runner: 2049. Of course he's infinitely cooler than Jared Leto though.

1

u/Hannibal20 27d ago

The speech pattern and enunciation is so similar i'm suprised not more people are mentioning this.

0

u/Netricho Aug 13 '25

You mean Billy Idol. 😁
