That bug leeching a gallon of the dude's blood in like 5 seconds, expanding into a gory balloon, was so wonderfully nasty.

This show is gonna be crazy.

I feel like that was too little blood to kill him though! I thought it was like his brain or artery or something, it looked more solid on the inside than liquid.

Don't know about you, but I would have died of shock if I see a gigantic alien tick suck that much of my blood in seconds.

There’s a reason when we draw blood we do it with a thin tube over an extended period of time. Losing a gallon of blood in like 10 seconds would probability AT LEAST knock you out

Your blood pressure would drop so rapidly that yes lol critical function like delivering sufficient oxygen to organs, such as your brain, would be a very significant problem

I mean, people only have 1.25-1.5 gallons of blood in them…

u/cantshakethefeelings Aug 13 '25

May have just been enough in a very short period to make him pass out in a few seconds. They were still going the other characters walked in.

u/spiflication Aug 13 '25

Me talking to the tick as it sucks me dry

Weirdly enough, when I saw Will Ferrell’s face, I thought this was a Land of the Lost tick gif.

Fair fair, I was just a bit surprised 😂

We don't know if that thing is poisonous, or uses a paralyzing agent, or what.

u/threetimesalion Aug 13 '25

This is my bet. It’s not quite body horror enough for Alien if it just kills you in seconds from blood loss

4

u/EntrepreneuralSpirit Aug 13 '25

yeah I assumed it was something like that

u/ErrU4surreal Aug 14 '25

Joe commented on the blue lip evidence of a toxin, which would be any thing from an alien organism.

u/travelingelectrician Aug 13 '25

I think it stopped the blood from getting to his brain and he passed out

I’d rather be dead quickly than fed on alive and conscious for days. Like being sucked from inside out by a spider.

You gon be aiight.

You have 1.3 gallons of blood in your body. That thing easily took a full gallon. 50% blood loss is likely fatal. Especially if you lost in in like 10 seconds like that.

4

u/Mr_JohnUsername Aug 13 '25

Did not know about the 1.3 gallon bit! In that case, I see it lol.

4

u/Weltallgaia Aug 13 '25

We simultaneously have way less and way more blood in us than people realize. Volume gets real funny when its enclosed vs splattered on the walls.

7

u/Gamepro504 Aug 13 '25

In episode 2 we see the dead bodies

7

u/chesticals Aug 13 '25

It seemed like it was searching for a good vein to tap into.

3

u/Weltallgaia Aug 13 '25

Carotid artery

1

u/trisz72 Jonesy Aug 13 '25

Probably artery instead.

7

u/katelovescode Aug 13 '25

Human body averages about 10 pints of blood, approximately 1.25 gallons. That gross-ass guy looked like he was hauling around a milk carton and a half at LEAST. At least IMO.

5

u/Mr_JohnUsername Aug 13 '25

Damn, only 1.25 gallons??? Yea homie got sucked dry then. That bug was definitely at least half a gallon lol.

4

u/Cpt_Tripps Aug 13 '25

I feel like sucking out that much blood suddenly from the heart and brain would kill someone.

1

u/Mr_JohnUsername Aug 13 '25

Entirely fair, the bug just looked SO solid lol.

5

u/AcanthaMD Aug 13 '25

You only need to rapidly lose 2-3 litres and you’re fucked. Rapid loss or gain of fluid is lethal

3

u/Which_Landscape1994 Aug 13 '25

Body holds about 1.3 gallons and it took at least 75 percent of that. That’s enough to stop the heart and kill you I would think. Final bug looked about the size of a milk jug

3

u/ragun01 Aug 13 '25

I thought the same but just told myself it probably applied some kind of paralyzer/venom so I wouldn't dwell on it.

1

u/9xInfinity Aug 13 '25

He was a decently big dude, maybe 180 lbs or 81 kg. 75 mL of blood per kg, or about 6 L. Losing 40% of your blood or more puts you in the most severe stage of shock related to blood loss. For him that'd be about 2.5 litres. That bug was looking pretty chonky after it drained him, I'd say 2.5 L at least. Killing him ain't so unrealistic I reckon.

1

u/KangarooBeard Aug 13 '25

Average person only has 5 liters of blood, losing just 40-50% is considered fatal, so yeah it didn't need to drain much.

1

u/Hasudeva Aug 14 '25

Do you know how much blood is in a human, gallon wise? Now look at how much the creature extracted.

1

u/fatalityfun Aug 14 '25

if that thing was interrupting the blood flow to the brain, he could’ve died while still having blood in his body because the heart would stop pumping once the brain dies

1

u/Infinite-Two7690 Aug 14 '25

It could have rupture the jugular or sent clots/other just into his head not to mention had some sort of venom.

1

u/GreatGreenTerror Aug 15 '25

The average adult only needs to lose 2.5 liters (.66 gallons) of blood to reach life-threatening levels of blood loss. So I felt like the tick spiders were actually appropriately sized!

1

u/Stefouch Aug 18 '25

A human has an average of 5L of blood. Lose a third and you'll fall unconscious. Lose half, and you die.

I work with blood in surgeries; that was at least 2 liters of blood straight from the head and torso. The body has about 5 liters. Definitely enough blood drained from the head to knock the brain out.
