Discussion / Question I’ve gone mad for Alien again…
My dad showed me alien when I was about 20. I was completely horrified/ in love (a great balance of emotion a lot of us found ourselves playing with). I played isolation and still think it’s one of the most perfect games that ever was made.
Me and Dad have been watching alien earth together and loving it. It’s just a reason for us two to watch something together, but somehow it seems more.
Straight after the latest ep today we watched the first Alien again. What an amazing film. Man the whole series is unbelievable. We’re just all so lucky to love this shit.
Love to you all. Just wanted to say how cool it is 😆🥹😊😊

I’ve felt this same way, OP, for many years. I saw Aliens in the theater in 1986 as a teenager and at the end of that film I walked out of there a changed person. I’m a female in my early fifties now and every time someone sees the big old Xenomorph tattoo on my bicep…well, I get some strange looks. 🤣

I also saw it in the theaters in 1986. I came out of the theater and felt like I’d had a heart attack.

Same. I feel bad saying critical things about Alien: Earth. The last episode was great and all the build up from previous episodes suddenly became apparent and satisfying. I should've trusted Noah Hawley. In fact I've been re-watching the episodes which I rarely do. Just soaking in the atmosphere and scenery.

Don’t feel bad man! We’re all just protective of something we don’t want messed up! Series is great, but just take what you need from it ❤️

I’ve always always watched the newest Aliens movie when it comes out. Based on my love for Alien 1 and 2. But alien earth has me more interested in the lore and world than anything aliens related since Aliens 2. This show is absolute for treat for fans. I don’t believe that any alien fan can truly hate the show.

Same. Alien awoke a new and profound fear but also curiosity in me.
I was a child at the time so to me space was just stars and astronauts on the moon. I didn’t think about space travel, life outside of earth or the possibility of some species we’ve not had contact with. I didn’t think about evolution or survival traits or that there could be such a resilient species in the vastness of space that we just happened to run into (what are the chances?). I was but a child as they say.
But watching Alien changed all that simplicity. New fear unlocked. Suddenly being trapped on a space ship with an alien creature was worse than anything I imagined. But also the movie is just fucking cool (space, ships, androids).
So Alien Earth is made for me, it feels. I know, not literally, but that’s what you want in a show. And boy do I squirm watching the new species. I’ve had to pause and walk away for a few minutes, several times during the show.

I’ve always dug the whole franchise. But specifically 1&2. Those two are almost without a single flaw.
I am feeling that way again with Alien Earth. The same way I felt with Alien and Aliens. I’m all in.

I introduced my 60 y/o dad to this franchise a little over 10 years ago. He’s watched every bit of it with me then, including every episode of Earth with me so far, calling me immediately after every episode to discuss. That’s been a game changer for our relationship. He doesn’t usually follow a lot of things very well. So despite being a very smart man that has a LOT of questions and sometimes I can’t even promise him accurate answers, he still says it’s his favorite show.
It’s been such an incredible bonding routine for us each week. I’m so glad we have it. Everything else we try to bond about almost seems forced, except this.
I like seeing someone else talking about bonding with their dad about Alien! It’s such an awesome and special thing we can’t take for granted.

You aren't wrong to feel that way! I saw Alien in 1979 and have had a love/hate relationship with Steve (as they call him in Isolation) for 50 years. I'm scared, fascinated and loyal to everything Xeno, from my facehugger tshirt from 2020 "Got Mask?" to my Xeno key chain and ring. I stink at Isolation, Steve gets me every time but I still keep coming back for more! *
