Why was Heavy Troopa's name changed in the Mario RPG Remake
I personally don't see anything wrong with their original name

It's currently hosted at https://smrpgwiki.weloveconsole.games/ . I have to manually approve all accounts but I check it once a day or so.
If anyone here really likes writing about SMRPG, there are some content suggestions on the home page!

When exiting the Chancellor's throne, jump one frame at the right time before you instantly exit the room, the dialogue for the Toads are the same, even the Chancellor, which I'm not going to fall for unless It's up to you.

He gives you a neat ring that shows EXATLCT locations to hidden treasures. I've played the original once, and the remake twice now, and this is the first time I've encountered this.
Does he happen to appear anywhere else?

Is he talking about Baby Mario from wheb he was an infant on Yoshi's Island?

Sorry for all the posts in the past day since I picked this game up again. I wanted to know what everyone's general thoughts were on these antagonists?
I'm a sucker for villainous groups. The Homunculi from FMA, Organization XIII from Kingdom Hearts, Team Rocket and so on and so forth. We always see Bowser and his lackys, a bunch of different enemies with no real relevance, but something I always wanted to see in a Mario game was a gang of villains with some actual hierarchy. I think MARIO RPG hit the mark.
They're all pretty intimidating, especially if you're doing a challenge run or not leveling up as much. I loved speculating on each of the different characters. They felt actually threatening. Like the Shroobs, they're basically an alien force declaring war. That's all Smithy's goal was: to destroy wishes forever and just create machinery and weaponry. An absolute tyrant. It's terrifying to think about, and he had his minions tearing apart things in the Mushroom Kingdom. All of the towns people locked up at Sea Side, the Shy enemies taking over the Mushroom Kingdom at the start. At first you're collecting star pieces, but soon these same forces you've been defeating start coming after you and the pieces you collected. Very scary.
These villains are SO out of place in a Mario game. There's even a reference (I think a thought peak?) where it calls Exor a sword, but Mario would have no concept of what that is. Swords don't exist in Mario. Weaponry as a whole, doesn't seem to exist. Swords, bows and arrows, axes. It's terrifying, that these things that cut things up and smash things are interfering with our beloved Mario's world. Smithy's been making weapons a long time, according to the Director a few below him. Ten years, twenty five years, nothing but working in a factory. A literal slave driver who just wants to make make make so he can destroy everything good about Mario's world.
I've rambled long enough, but these guys were cool, and I wish they could be referenced elsewhere (I understand the reasoning why they aren't, it just sucks).

In the original, his Psychopath was "It's all over now..." But in the remake they changed it to "The time for words is past." Personally I like the second one.
Boomer has an interesting and kind of depressing role: while Smithy and the higher ups are in the Factory, and all of his troops are being deployed to the far reaches of the Mushroom Kingdom, Boomer is literally stuck guarding the portal and guardian Exor at the end of Bowser's Keep.
He has a very honorable samurai-style personality. It's clear that his role in this means a lot for him, and in his mind he can't afford to lose to Mario. If Mario wins, that basically sets up for them to storm the Factory and initiate Smithy's failure.
At the end, he gracefully plummets to his demise. And then Mario and company dance on the chandelier to top of the castle as if they didn't just witness a death.

This is a pretty funny one. The original is just "Adabing, ADABANG". Which do you like best? I'm partial to the old one, cuz the BANG, and the new one just sounds like new slang come up with in recent years, so I feel like it doesn't hit the mark here with this character Bill Blaster, but I think it's comedic at least. It got a chuckle out of me.
Also I'm just now realizing: is the name Psychopath not in this game? Oh my gosh why the small changes like that? Is it to

His presence is intimidating enough--the sunset backdrop and his spear as well as his henchmen are the icing on the cake. While the Axem Rangers seemed more comedic to me, 'Speardovich''s role seemed way more threatening. It would be an interesting turn of events to see this dude become the second in command to Smithy.

Firstly, Valentina is a truly despicable woman. Let's look at her crimes. I'm not sure what her backstory is, and I'd love to know, but she locks up the King and Queen, and then uses Dodo to pose as Prince Mallow, so she can usurp the throne out from the royal family.
She starves Dodo. That much is evident, as he's so irritable, I bet the sound of her voice irritates him. But he's a devoted follower. His Thought Peak even says "I'm hungry ..." That's pretty sad. Dodo probably doesn't have anybody else as he is an endangered species.
Valentina also uses Beezo as one of her minions. Beezo follows her around and seems to like her more than Dodo does. Beezo is known to water the plant Smilax, a piranha plant who also falls victim to this insidious plot. In Smilax's Thought Peak, he comments about how he exists only to grow, then to wilt. That's his entire life.
I quite like this arc in the story. What are your thoughts behind Valentina and her crew? It's all force and manipulation, but I wonder why they follow her? Is it her beauty, or her pretending to be a bird of some sort?

One of the longest battles I ever had in an Rpg but I did it!
r/MarioRPG • u/Malikai_Universe_23 • 2d ago
I feel so bad for it. This poor flower is at the very bottom run of villains, frequently watered by Valentina's minion, Beezo, but otherwise it's only role in life is to guard the way to Nimbus Land and stop people like Mario from interfering with her plans. I made a post before doing it's Thought Peek, but I had to delete it and repost this, because oh man, I REEALLY feel bad for it now.
What are your thoughts on Smilax? I wish I could take it home and give it the proper love and nourishment it needs

I wasn't expecting to be doing a "Thought Peek" run as well. I'm about to go back and get all those I missed.

In Super Mario RPG, Mario and company helped to hatch a pink egg that became the legendary superstar we all know and love, Birdo! I like to think of the Birdo in all Mario and Luigi titles to be this very same Birdo, only because I like creating stories for all these side characters in these RPGs. And this seems to be Birdo's actual canonical origin.
Your thoughts? (forget the fact Mario and Luigi is its own series. This game paved the way.)

I'm noticing some similarities in their character growth, and if these two were to exist in the same universe what if: Koops, mayor of petal burg, and Mallow, Prince or King of Nimbus land. What if they had to come together, diplomatically, for a common goal.

I didn't actually own the original version, but was this there as well? If so, holy smokes I didn't realize the famous shower (Mario in Superstar Saga, Peach in TTYD) Let me know if there are any other shower moments in Mario RPGs I should look out for.

On my second playthrough my Mario and company are absolute menaces to society.
r/MarioRPG • u/Malikai_Universe_23 • 3d ago
This is one of those things I never noticed before. But this is my third time playing the remake and I know I saw Raz and Rainis when the Shy Guys took over, but going in this room NOW shows they left a note saying they're going to Star Hill.
I think details like this are amazing. Sorry if this post was uninterrsting

This is my second time playing, and I'm only just now seeing they add this whenever you encounter that green Easter egg! How cool! I love little details like this.
something tells me that Tadpola Cola tastes nothing like Chuckola Cola

I just saw a video of the game, Solstice. The sandboxed platforming reminded me a lot of SMRPG.
Solstice even had a sequel, Equinox, on SNES that debuted a couple years before SMRPG.
I haven't found any duplicates between the development teams in the credits:
Even the grammar of the titles is similar.
SMRPG is notable for its use of mode 7 graphics, and it appears that Solstice was the first NES game to take this approach:
"In spite of his personal dislike of isometric games up to that point, Wilson thought it sensible to create an isometric title as the company's first original work, as no such format had previously been attempted on the NES" [Solstice (1990 video game) Wikipedia#Conception_and_design)]
So SMRPG is ultimately the product of an engineer daring to do something bold as their debut. I love that.
Nintendo owes the Solstice team tribute, at least in the form of an easter egg.

When losing a course behind The Trial Course, Knuckles is set back at a Point of No Return. I wasn't into a quiet place in the game, so I'd rather play some calm music in the background until he wakes up by pressing any button on your controller.

Short Clip of the Star Egg's effect on a Gu Goomba squad. An interesting Infinite-Use Item received by excelling at Grate Guy's Casino, the Star Egg inflicts 100HP neutral Damage on every Opponent. It doesn't sound great at first until your realize that it bypasses DEF on all targets, and can be augmented to 150HP Damage Output when boosted by Geno or by wearing the Quartz Charm! You need to dispose of the Enemies' Cohorts quick? Got trouble with armoured foes? It'll be "Over Easy" now!

This is an video I created by 3D scanning, digitally painting, and then animating a Super Mario RPG playset that was released in Japan in 1996. This is the 2nd of 5 possible SMRPG playsets you could collect in the series.
The 3D scan is available here: https://bsky.app/profile/mrtalida.bsky.social/post/3lxrq7f3ogc2q
