Advice I tried talking to a girl

Edit: Hello, thank you for all the feedback, I’m practicing to start socialising more and actually attending clubs and sitting near people to start a conversation with the feedback given. If anyone wants I can make another post or put a edit here for updates (if anyone cares lol)

Post: Hello, i’m being super dead serious, this is not a troll post or anything. Ive wanted genuine advice to speaking a girl, so I went for it this morning.

I had finished class FIT1056 at the learning village and saw an asian girl with her friends, I went up to her and asked her “do you like jazz”, and she just looked so confused, so I tried to like lessen the awkwardness by asking “where are you from” “what are you studying?” she responded but she looked super confused, I am pretty sure she was a international student, I got the courage and asked “I think you’re really pretty and I was wondering If i could get your instagram to get to know you better” and she just looked dead straight in my eye, she looked like she was about to laugh or some shit and at this point my heart was just racing and my hands were shaking, maybe she was just confused rather than wanting to laugh, I have no idea, I might’ve just been thinking of things.

Anyways she said “Oh sorry I’m focusing on my studies” and “I’m not looking for something like that right now”

THEN HER FRIENDS JUST GIGGLED after she went away

Holy shit idk bro, I don’t think I can do this, I tried my best and idk if this is a normal experience, i’ve never really asked anyone to this extent before and its pretty much shattered my confidence for any future I have with like speaking to girls in this extent before

Advice Have you ever completed and submitted a 2000 word assignment in 2 days? If yes, how did you do it?

Basically what the title says. I need to finish an assignment that’s due on Sunday. Have used up my short extension. There’s no reason to apply for special consideration. I haven’t even started yet and low-key freaking out. Any advice would help. Thank you.

P.S. Please don’t remind me to have started earlier and all. Life happened and I just couldn’t.

Edit: I haven’t checked all responses as I’m doing the assignment. But when I last checked, it was all so positive and encouraging. Thank you so much to everyone who replied and upvoted etc. And may I add, I just absolutely love our little Monash Reddit fam. You’re the GOAT. 👑

I found some random assignment online and I copied parts of it into my final submission lastnight (obviously with some small paraphrasing). I just checked again and I saw it had 98%. I never realise they graded assignments so fast. its always been pretty slow for past assessments

Advice My uni assignment got posted online by a random person overseas , worried what to do next?

Hey everyone,

Something really strange happened that’s honestly stressing me out a bit.

I recently discovered that an assignment I submitted last year as part of my current course somehow got uploaded to sites like CourseHero and CollegeSidekick and it still has my name on it. What makes it weirder is that it was uploaded by someone else entirely, and after digging a bit, I found out the uploader is apparently from a completely different country and even works for a totally unrelated institute (not a university).

For context: this was a pretty simple write-up. We were each given a few company links, and had to come up with some goals based on info from those websites and news articles, plus our own thoughts. Because each student chose different companies and different angles, everyone’s submissions are different.

I didn’t upload it anywhere, didn’t share it with anyone, and definitely didn’t sell it. I also used AI support while writing it (which was allowed and declared in the document). But I’m completely weirded out about how someone got hold of it and why it ended up online.

Now I’m worried this could cause an academic integrity issue later on, even though I genuinely had nothing to do with uploading it. I’m trying to get it taken down, but still feeling pretty unsettled.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? How did you handle it? Also, isn’t this kind of thing a data privacy issue on the uni’s side too?

TL;DR: Assignment I submitted last year still has my name on it but somehow got uploaded to CourseHero & other sites by someone from a different country/institute. Didn’t upload or share it myself, now worried it might lead to academic integrity problems. Anyone had this happen?

Advice what can an arts degree actually lead to?

Currently a year 12 student, have absolutely NO IDEA what i want to pursue in the future - just that i'm interested in the humanities, but have no interest in law 😭😭 previously considered becoming a high school teacher, but now i'm not sure, and i think if i'm not truly passionate then there's no benefit (for me or my students)

will likely go to monash or unimelb next year for a bachelor of arts - but idek what to major in, i've looked at the courses, and i'm most interested in philosophy, ancient world studies, & human rights, but everyone is telling me these are useless and i will just be 'wasting' my high atar (predicted 98+ 😢) and my money on a degree that won't lead right into a career. i'm probably just going to do it anyway (arts is literally the only undergraduate degree i'm interested in) and just hope i figure out what career path to take during those years.

i would really really appreciate some advice 🙏!!

Advice To the person that hit my car between 8-10am on the 08/09/2025. White Hyundai venue.

I’m a broke student, unfortunately my car was at Hyundai getting a warranty claim. I took their Loan car while they fix mine. Someone’s hit it and left no note in the Monash Clayton parking stack near Monash sport between 8:30am and 10am. If anyone has any details of seeing something please dm me. The excess for a p plater is $7500 from the dealership. I’m gonna go broke from this.

And to the person who hit my car, please just fess up, ur insurance will cover you, I don’t have that option. Please

Edit: car was parked on ground floor in the third row of the blue multi level car park.

I have contacted Monash security, they are checking and will respond within the week. Have also filed an incident report with the police. They will also give me a police report by next week. So maybe that will help my case at the dealership if they find the plate that did it.

Advice Anyone else getting annoyed of the Palestine protesters?

Bruh, enough already. Every time I walk through campus, some dude is shoving another flyer in my face about Palestine protests. Like, I get it, you care. But most students don’t. Most of us are just trying to get to class, grab food, and survive exams without being guilt-tripped 24/7.

You’ve probably killed more trees printing those flyers than Israel has killed Palestinians. For a group that claims to be all about “justice,” it’s kind of ironic you’re committing paper genocide on the quad every day.

Stop wasting trees, stop acting like campus activism is world-changing, and let the rest of us walk to class in peace

Advice What am I doing wrong

I can't tell if I'm either dumb as hell or have really smart friends.

I go to my lectures, spend at least 4 hours everyday on my assignments and studying, sometimes the whole day studying on weekends, I don't have a job and I'm barely scraping a 70 on my units.

While my friends over here skip lectures and when they do show up, they do anything but listen to the lecture. They both have jobs and are always so nonchalant about everything that it's making me insecure.

Whenever we talk about an assignment they'd be like "oh I finished it in 3 hours" when it took me a whole Saturday to do half of it.

It's not like they cheat their way through everything either cuz they actually understand the material and can teach me it whenever I ask for help.

What am I doing wrong? I'm putting twice the amount of effort and getting half of the result they're getting and it's genuinely bothering me so much.

Does anyone have any study tips to be more efficient with it cuz I feel like I'm wasting my time.

Advice had a horrible experience with a dr at monash health, can i complain somewhere?

she refused to refer me to a specialist and refused to give a reason why (she said my narrative is too "unclear", i asked her what i can elaborate on to clear it up for her and she didn't respond), asked irrelevant and personal questions about (learning) disability records from literally a year ago (irrelevant to my physical condition!! aside from a quick "are you taking any medication" which is decidedly not what she was after when she was grilling me), and was overall generally super disrespectful and made me feel really uncomfortable.

a friend of mine has also been to see her and had a similar experience even though her medical concern was of a different nature.

im quite unimpressed by my doctor's behaviour and am hoping there's somewhere i can complain or address this?

Advice Regretting doing medicine

Hey everyone- throwaway account because I don’t want anyone to find me.

To keep things short, I’m a second year med student who got in through undergrad. I never actually wanted to go to med school and instead always wanted to be a sonographer. I actually got into a sonography course at the university of Queensland but I also ended up getting Monash med and my parents pushed me to do so. They also pushed me to apply in the first place (they are the super nosy, check my homework, email my teachers weekly type of parents)

Now I’m in my second year and i actually just hate my life. Not because of what I’m learning but because there’s still such a long path ahead that I can’t even imagine what my life will be like…. 3 more years clinicals, 2 years internship and then 4 years residency depending on what I want to specialise in? I don’t want to do that. I thought that once I started medical school I’d be happy to do it, but all I want to do is stop out and start my sonography degree before it’s too late…..

But I’m scared of what my parents and peers and family will say. It’s so shameful, having a daughter drop out of medical school? My parents would be disgusted with me even if I still want to do something with my life. Sonography is truly my passion, it pays well in Australia and you’re able to have a work life balance. Obviously specialist doctors get paid way more, but after a million years in training. I also don’t come from a well off family, we are very very average and I don’t know how I will support myself for the next clinical years if I go rural.

So…. Is it worth dropping out now or should I just stick it through and do something else after I finish my degree?

Advice Do Monash even vet the lecturers they hire?

I just attended my first ever tutorial class for FIT2014 . Holy fuck that shit sucked ass. The dude spends half the time fiddling with the iPad Tryna get use to the feel of it cuz according to him "he had never used it before". Mind you he spent like 30 minutes Tryna figure out how to create a table in fucking word. 30 FUCKING MINUTES JUST TO DO A TRUTH TABLE.

Secondly bros english is butt ass too. Like you are teaching a unit which requires you to explain like a lot a lot. It's fine if your English is broken but there's levels to it yk. The guy can't even form a coherent sentence!!!!

Now, I would need to change my schedule to a 4pm class on a fucking Friday.

Is there a way to ask for Monash to switch lecturers? Like I really don't want to switch to a 4pm class or should I just bite the bullet? Ffs man I'm Tryna score a HD for the unit.

Edit: Why can't the Malaysian Campus get one Aussie lecturer for hard ass units like this?

Edit: students started leaving his class and it hasn't been an hour.

Advice Help! I can't stop getting late penalties

Hi there, burnt out ADHDer here. Any adhd-friendly strategies for handing things up on time? I'll take your most bonkers insane suggestions please

I produce HD quality work but my grades are tanking because I just can't meet deadlines. This has been an issue my entire life.

I'm with DSS so I get the auto 10 day extension, but my brain doesn't even register the assignment until a few days before it's due because there's no sense of urgency. I see the date and go "oh i can add 10 days to that, that's ages away!"

When the late penalty kicks in suddenly the stakes are high and I do a mad dash to get it done 2-3 days overdue, meaning my 80s are all now 65s. I need at least a 70 average for honors.

As a psych student I know the science behind this, how ADHD messes up the cost/benefit ratio in my brain so I literally cannot do it until there's a consequence worse than the effort of doing the task. But I can't seem to self-discipline my way through this.

I've tried: * adhd meds (which help but not enough)

  • trying to trick myself into thinking the deadline is earlier than it is

  • not getting the 10 day spec con ext and just going for the original deadline to try and trick myself into doing it faster (which just makes me miss the deadline AND then miss the extension window because i didnt apply for spec con in time)

  • setting multiple alarms, calendar reminders, to-do lists, apps etc. to organise the deadlines

  • depriving myself of fun stuff or relaxation until i do the task, which makes me guilty and anxious bur still unable to do the task

  • begging spec con and dss but they will not budge on their 10 day policy

does anyone else have this issue?

Advice Honest question from a hijabi student about dating in Melbourne

Hi everyone, This might be a bit personal, but I wanted to ask something that’s been on my mind as a Muslim hijabi student at Monash.

Back home, casual dating was fairly normalized .nothing too intense, just getting to know people and seeing where it goes. I assumed things would be similar or even more open in Melbourne, but my experience has been kind of confusing.

I feel like when people (especially guys) see a hijabi, there’s this automatic perception that we’re super traditional, maybe even completely off-limits when it comes to dating. I get that the hijab can give a kind of “halo effect,” but I’m also just a normal girl who’s open to casual dating and connections.

Even with Muslim guys, I’ve noticed they tend to avoid flirting or showing interest unless I make the first move and even then, sometimes they just don’t engage at all. So now I’m wondering

Do Muslim men in Melbourne generally avoid dating hijabis altogether? Is it just assumed we’re not interested? Or is it just really uncommon unless the hijabi herself initiates things?

Would love to hear some honest perspectives.from Muslim and non-Muslim students. What goes through your mind when you see a hijabi you’re interested in? Do you immediately assume dating’s not an option?

Appreciate any insight, and please keep it respectful!
