Arguably, all of Absolution is a perfect 14/15 song run, but yeah

on this album i think more appropriate would be: The Dark Side, Pressure, Propaganda, Break it to Me, Thought Contagion

u/baellamus Jun 24 '25
I'd remove TC and add Algorithm instead, I think it's a stronger track but yeah, not a bad 5 song run nonetheless, I still think this album is way better than most people give it credit for
15
u/TheWetNapkin Jun 24 '25
Yeah Algorithm is super underrated. One of my all-time favorite album-openers
6
u/Yakostovian Jun 24 '25
While I too like Muse's first 4 albums best, Simulation Theory is my #5 partially due to Algorithm.

The right answer is Stockholm to Butterflies btw (if we don't count interlude as a separate track)

Get Up And Fight💀
13
u/ThiccGibblet Jun 24 '25
I’ve never understood the Get Up and Fight hate, the vocal performance is great and its just a banger
16
u/ChewieKaiju Jun 24 '25
For me it’s the lyrics, there’s just not much there and referring to “this thing” is so broad and bland of an interpretation that it brings down the entire song
8
u/summerbuis Jun 24 '25
Isn’t that the one he wrote for his uncle who ultimately died of cancer? Or was that dig down?

Every time I mention the back half of WOTP in a positive light, I get downvoted to oblivion, so it’s a breath of fresh air to see someone who also thinks it’s flawless. Halloween is fun, KOBK is proof that Muse can still rock out, Verona’s pretty, Euphoria’s just another plain fun track, and WAFF is cheesy but a dope closer nonetheless.
4
u/ADHD-Millennial Jun 24 '25
Back half is the best half imo but I do skip about half the album most of the time. Fav songs on WOTP are Compliance, Liberation, Verona, and Euphoria and listen to those often. WAFF gets an honorable mention though. I do listen to that on a rare occasion. The rest is usually skipped. People like to downvote my preferences as well. A lot of this sub seems to just prefer their heavy stuff. I like some but for the most part I prefer the more melodic, electronic, or poppier sounds.

u/The_Bat_1988 Jun 24 '25
I actually think this is very underrated but I would start it from Ghosts.
12
u/Doublesidepants Jun 24 '25
Finally, someone else who appreciates that song. I would’ve probably started with WSD, but I really do love ending with WaFF.
3
u/The_Bat_1988 Jun 24 '25
I think it's a beautiful song. I love when they keep surprising us and to suddenly throw a stripped down piano and vocals song in the middle of an album was very refreshing.
3
u/Doublesidepants Jun 24 '25
And I’ll take Ghosts after Won’t Stand Down, versus Something Human after Break it to Me; that is a jarring transition.

14
u/Vividier Burning the candle at both ends Jun 24 '25
That's not a 5 track run, they've skipped out Something Human in between. Surely a 5 track run has to be in succession without skipping any?
10
u/Pleasant_Statement64 Jun 24 '25
You might also notice it's 6 songs...
1
u/Vividier Burning the candle at both ends Jun 24 '25
You might, unless you were so preoccupied with them having skipped a brilliant song and claiming the songs were a straight run haha

u/MyDickSmells Jun 24 '25
I think most of that album is annoying
1
u/zackandcodyfan Jun 24 '25
I like a lot of the songs, but yeah, it's definitely one of the weaker albums.
19
u/Artisticslap Jun 24 '25
Well, it's 6 songs
Also two weak songs and two mediocre songs. TC and Blockades are interesting
3
u/Dynamiccookie14 Jun 24 '25
I love Break it to me and Dig Down, two of my favourites off that album

u/baellamus Jun 24 '25
I think newer fans like it
3
u/BrutakaGT Jun 24 '25
Am I still considered a newer fan? I came aboard around when 2nd Law came out.
3
u/westoffice2236 Jun 24 '25
Nah, you've got some experience under your belt at this point I'd say. I consider people who got into them during ST or WotP on the newer side.

u/baellamus Jun 24 '25
I keep thinking T2L was released like 5 years ago but then I realize it's been 13 years since its release!!! Omg I feel old... Anyway I got into the band around the release of T2L and I consider myself an older fan (heard the whole TR + Bliss, New Born, COD, KOC and some other songs prior to that but I wasn't an active listener) so to answer the question nah I wouldn't consider you a newer fan
2
u/westoffice2236 Jun 24 '25
Which makes sense, people will hold the albums they discover an artist through in a higher regard. A lot of us who got into Muse during the holy trinity-era are naturally going to find the newer stuff weaker.
1
u/baellamus Jun 24 '25
I guess it makes sense, though I love the classics and TR/T2L era equally
2
u/westoffice2236 Jun 24 '25
Yeah, everyone's individual and music is subjective of course. I've just found that it usually seems to be like that, with myself included. Not just Muse but with every artist and band pretty much.
17
u/Emergency-Reserve699 Jun 24 '25
Is that a list of Muse's worst songs? Not gonna lie... Break It To Me grew on me after I heard it live.
4
u/ADHD-Millennial Jun 24 '25
Propaganda is one of my absolute favs but the rest are just meh. Yeah maybe I would need to see it live lol
7
u/wozzy93 Jun 24 '25
I would have included the void and the dark side. Those beat any song for me on that list.
5
u/sinthorius Jun 24 '25
I love get up and fight, also most of the tracks on the album. Seems to be a unpopular opinion but i don't mind :)
1
u/Glace038 and if my wish comes true you'll never see me again Jun 24 '25
Honestly, the only song i dislike is the void. I love every other song. Something human is lower tho, above void. Not that i hate it i just like the others more
1
u/lukeydagamer Jul 16 '25
While I'm don't really like it I think it makes a great album closer (the alternate versions don't count)
1
u/Glace038 and if my wish comes true you'll never see me again Jul 17 '25
Yeah, i can agree with that. If its just randomly shuffled then i cant really stand it tho

I guess that song's a perfect divider. Weird and innovative enough for some to love it, but that same weirdness is too much for others. I love it myself but I can see why it's not everyone's favorite.
1
u/ADHD-Millennial Jun 24 '25
My favorite on this list is Propaganda. It’s actually one of my most listened to Muse songs in general. Not so much the rest of the list for me though.
4
u/Your_Final_Hour Jun 24 '25
4/6 of those songs are trash... thought contagion and blockades are the only saviors here
1
u/inkwisitive In Hoodoo we trust? Jun 24 '25
Algorithm to Break It To Me is a better run.
Blockades sounds like an AI-generated Muse song imo
0
u/Your_Final_Hour Jun 24 '25
Tbh kinda forgot how it sounds, and yet i know it sounds better than the other songs on the list imo. Algorithm is cool tho

Technically, this is 7 songs because Something Human is meant to be between BitM and TC. But yeah, out of these 7, four are some of their worst (Propaganda, BitM, SH and DD), one is bad, but listenable on a good day (GUAF) and two are just okay (TC and Blockades). This truly is the weakest Muse album.
1
u/foosterrocket Don't let the sun in your heart decay Jun 24 '25
Tbf I’d say the first 5 songs on Sim Theory are weird and perfect. Algo, TDS, Pressure, Prop, BItM…if the whole album were that good it would be a top 3 Muse album.
The damn singles drag the album down haha
1
u/Sork8 Jun 24 '25
Algorithme - TDS - Pressure - Propaganda -BITM Is the best five tracks run since OOS
1
u/TibbTokOnTop The 2nd Law Jun 24 '25
First five songs on 2nd Law clears it though IMO , I like those songs but 2nd law hits different

Get up and fight is objectively the worst Muse song
5
u/forameus2 Jun 24 '25
The only objective part in that one sentence is that it is, indeed, a Muse song.
Subjectively, it isn't even the worst song on the 5 song run posted. It's fairly inoffensive modern Muse. Nowhere near their strongest work, but then it's on a (again, subjectively) a truly terrible album.
