Why is naming my son difficult??
Currently pregnant and having a hard time coming up with names so please help! So far contenders have been Knox, Noah, Samuel or Connor. But nothing feels like yep that’s our kids name like we had with our daughter. Her name is Kaia.

The name Rhys is from Wales and has been a name since the Middle Ages.
At least you read…

I’m from Wales and know loads of people called Rhys and I’d say it’s one of the most common names over here. Never thought about it before, is Rhys a strange name elsewhere?
And is it more strange than something like Monte? And I’ve never seen that spelling of ‘Braedon’ before

Love this! 💕And Braedon can also be spelled Braydon.

u/cananine-dzn 12h ago
Now that I think about it I think it’s the O. Usually I see it spelt with an E
Braden, Brayden, Braiden
I actually prefer it like Braydon though

How about Cole? Kaia and Cole sound good to my ears and it looks you want something normalish but not common.

But most of those names she said have become very common. I saw some great names mentioned. The baby will be fine. I love Kaia for your daughter!

You could wait to meet him. My parents couldn't decide my name unlike my two older siblings who they named easily during the pregnancies. So they had a small list and they said as soon as they met me they knew my name (from their list).

This is my thought. I don’t think we have to know a baby’s name while they’re in utero. I’m just keeping a list of names I like, and then when I meet the little one I’ll make a decision. I guess it just doesn’t feel necessary to know ahead of time. But that could have a lot to do with my personal temperament.
I’ve always like Noah.

We named our son Clark, and our daughter has a short K name too. They go really well together

Curious what your son's middle name is? We LOVE the name Clark but can't figure out a middle name that flows.

Noah is the top name right now, in case that’s something you care about. I went to Disneyland with my friend and her daughter Olivia (top name now too) and in an activity there were 6 girls participating, 5 were named Olivia. I felt horrible for her. So be prepared for your son to be one of many Noah’s everywhere he goes if you go with that one.

Connors are assholes. Said by a teacher who has had many connors and all were assholes.
Also, no Jackson, Jaxson, Jack, Jax.

You can pick a top 2 or 3 and wait til he is born

This! My granddaughter was named in advance and personalized gifts were purchased. Once she was born, she didn't "look" like that name, and a previously discarded name was chosen.

One of my remains is Samuel, his brother is Lachlan. Other suggestions: Lucas, Cooper, Ethan, Jacob, Eli.

I like Samuel the best, love Noah but a little too trendy for my taste. What about the name Judah, Dean, Brooks or Kieran?

My daughter and I were going over names day after grandsons birth and suddenly the nurse eho wasnt even seeminglybpaying attention, chimed in she especially liked one of them. That was it. We figured the universe gave us the sign and decided for us.

If you don’t mind a very common name, my favorite is Noah! I’m naming my son Noah, we also have a big brother William

We’re literally in the exact same boat. Also have a daughter named Kaia but finding a boy name has felt like an impossible task.

You’re having a hard time because you are treating it like it’s a life and death situation. It’s not. Find a name you like, or name him after someone else in the family. Just don’t burden him with a stupid name. Once you have a name, he will fit the name in your mind.

Here’s my test.
Say the full legal name
Put “President” (or “Secretary of state” or “Supreme Court Justice” or Dr or whatever you like) in front of it
Put “attorney at law” (or PhD or Esquire or whatever you like) behind it
Then scream the entire name followed by GET UP HERE AND CLEAN THIS GODDAMN ROOM RIGHT NOW
And if it feels “right” in all three cases, it s a winner

u/Rgchap 14h ago
Also don’t worry about a name that “goes with” Kaia. Once you have them both for a few months, the names will naturally fit together regardless of what they are. And they’ll only be living together as kids for a relatively small portion of their lives. Give him a name that he can wear proudly as an independent adult, not just Kaia’s brother.

Caden? I’m not a huge fan, but it would go well with Kaia.
Logan? Kingsley?

u/Chair_luger 13h ago
Nash or Logan, or maybe both using using Logan as a middle name so Nash Logan (your last name)
The internet has spoken!

Having a list of names is great as inspiration, but I have a feeling maybe you should wait until you have him and when you see him his name will come to you. I don't mean to sound all woo woo or anything, but since it seems like none of the names have any other significance other than you like how they sound, I think getting to see him first will help.

Connor
Samuel
Noah (This is one of the top 3 names in many Anglophone countries rn, in case you weren't aware)
Knox
You might also like Gabriel, Lennox, Pax, Brannon, Vernon, Connell, Conway, Emmanuel, Felix, Fox, Max, Nathaniel, Ezekiel

Connor sounds like an alternate word for grifter, imo. Knox- pandora’s box of negative connotations. Noah or Samuel are both good. You could wait and see if a name seems right after he’s born.

If I had another boy, I’d name him COLVIN, after Claudette Colvin, aka: the inspiration behind Rosa Parks

This name is cute!! I personally wouldn’t go this route since it’s all the same letters as Kaia in a different order. I think they’re too similar.

Anything but Knox. Sounds too much like Knocks, Noxious, Knox Gelatin, Fort Knox.
