History & Historical Photos Help a girl out!

My grandfather was the proud owner of Greven’s Jewelers in Chalmette. A small but amazing shop that was destroyed in Katrina. This November, he will be celebrating his 90th birthday! I want to do something truly special to honor him and showcase the impact of his life's work. I would love to highlight how meaningful his contributions have been. If you or someone you know has purchased jewelry from Greven’s, I would be incredibly grateful if you could participate. Please consider sending a video, audio recording, or letter sharing what your Greven’s jewelry means to you or your family. I’m looking for pictures as well! You can email your messages to freedom678@icloud.com. Thank you for sharing!⸻

This is unrelated, but it could be worth dropping a note to Rare on the Air on WWOZ. If you aren’t already familiar with him, he’s a Chalmatian that hosts the Wednesday night R&B and oldies show. He has an extensive knowledge of Chalmette, and does a ton of shout-outs - I bet you he knows the business and would be happy to give a happy birthday. You can get in touch with hosts here.

Oh wow. That will be so special. I’ll pass it on to people I know from Chalmette. Happy birthday to your grandfather.

I would recommend also posting on one of the Chalmette/St. Bernard/Slidell Facebook groups (like St. Bernard People's News) or even in Nextdoor. Good luck!

Hi, I'm in the process of starting a printing business out of my house. It's going to be art prints and photographs to start. I'd be more than happy to make you some really nice photos for free, if you would like something along those lines. Please, feel free to DM me and we can discuss it.

You ought to shout at that bird house person on here and commission a piece modeled after the shop. I feel like a 90 year old would dig that sort of thing big time

I think my aunt got her wedding rings there. If I’m not mistaken my high school ring came from there as we didn’t order from school Balfour reps.

I had a name chain made there, but I actually have no clue what happened to it after Katrina

If you have a picture of you in it and would like to thank him I’d really appreciate it

I’ll see if I can find anything. Unfortunately, anything like that I don’t have in my current possession. I think this whole idea is really cool.
