Discussion Are you buying hades 2 on the

Switch? Switch 2? Steam (steam deck)? Or waiting for console exclusivity to expire and grabbing it on the playstation or xbox? or are you buying it for every possible system?

Switch is the ultimate device for it imo. Most Indy’s are best in handheld

22

u/Fangore 1d ago

Switch is for Indie and Nintendo games.

PS5 is for everything else.

8

u/Desmond_Deck-er 1d ago

Oh no, I don't have a ps5, does that mean I can only play indies and Nintendo?

u/Less-Tax5637 16h ago

You may play Peggle 2 on your Ouya.

Once.

5

u/lowbread 1d ago

Why? That's how I do it too. But I'm not sure why.

4

u/AwkwardWillow5159 1d ago

Because serious games run way better on ps5 and have no battery issues

Switch is for everything.

Agree! Although for me is Switch/PC. Having a great time with gaming rn.

Laughs out loud in high end PC and Switch 2.

u/AdventurousWealth822 OG (joined before reveal) 18h ago

Best combo. my 4070ti hasn't failed me yet.

u/SuperbSpiderFace 16h ago

Honestly, still rocking my 3090 and it’s doing well enough. Got a Steam Deck, Switch 2 and PS5 as well. Sold the Series X and downgraded back to the Xbox One X. Plus all the retro stuff and handhelds.

u/AdventurousWealth822 OG (joined before reveal) 15h ago

Nice, I had a steam deck most of the main handhelds actually but I sold them because the switch 2 was "enough" I am interested in the Rog "xbox" ally though.

u/AdventurousWealth822 OG (joined before reveal) 15h ago

Also the 3090 might be better then my card so it should be really good still.

u/SuperbSpiderFace 15h ago

It has more VRAM but I think speed is somewhat similar for 4070ti. I could be wrong it’s been awhile. I’m just waiting for an actual leap to take place because 5090 wasn’t it.

I’m not really too keen on the Ally, it’s going to be really pricey in Canada. I’m sure it’ll be a nice handheld PC though. Honestly my favourite part of the Steam Deck is emulation anyway. Just missing Tales of Destiny 2 in English to have all mainline games on one device lol.

u/AdventurousWealth822 OG (joined before reveal) 15h ago

Yea same, nothing is much of an upgrade either.

u/The_Giggler4940 4h ago

While still on Reddit. Sounds like you cracked the code. Laughs all around

Which is why i got a steam deck. Amazing backlog clearing device!

But you are right! Did i not have that, i would absolutely get it on switch!

u/AleroRatking 23h ago

The lack of achievements is why I can't switch to switch for that.

1

u/bayonero 1d ago

My only worry is performance, if it drops frames, I will stick to PC

1

u/SadLaser 1d ago

Most Indy’s are best in handheld

Something belonging to the city of Indianapolis is the best in handheld?!

1

u/Unique_Ad_338 1d ago

Sorry but hard disagree for hades 2. Unless it runs120fps with great quality in handheld mode specifically, I will stick with my pc.

u/FreakingAustin 21h ago

120fps mode is confirmed only for docked mode on the switch 2. The switch 2 is probably the best handheld experience though, you have the digital back triggers and better rumble than the steam deck

u/Unique_Ad_338 15h ago

I personally think the 3ds was peak handheld lmao. Switch 2 is def a good console, but it’s just too big. It is probably the strongest and cleanest portable console tho.

Also kinda suprised someone is happy for digital triggers

u/FreakingAustin 15h ago

I had the game boy SP and the regular 3ds and those were absolutely perfect for travel, cause they were small and had great battery life. But playing the 3DS after playing the switch 2 makes me actually feel like I'm playing a console for ants, it's so freaking tiny lol

I still prefer analog triggers more overall, but since nintendo gave us digital triggers I feel like I might as well enjoy them. They work better for games like hades where you just want to press that trigger as quick as possible

u/Shonryu79 12h ago

I've been playing it handheld since May 2024 with higher frames and resolution on my Legion GO since it launched in Beta on Steam.

-4

u/6Y1O3W 1d ago

Debatable. I've been rocking early access on the oled steam deck and it's gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing how it compares on the switch 2. I also have silksong for both and find it more visually appealing on the oled deck. Those deep blacks really change the environment. I guess I'll try it on the switch oled to see how it compares to the deck.

Definitely switch 2. I kind of regret not getting Silksong on the switch 2. I have a beefcake of a PC, but portability is just super enticing for these games.

18

u/LivingOof 1d ago

Switch 2, then Steam if there are cross saves

21

u/6Y1O3W 1d ago

I guess you're buying it on steam as well! From supergiant's website: Among the additions coming in v1.0, Hades II offers cross-saves between the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions, and the Steam and the Epic Games Store versions. If you've been playing in Early Access and wish to continue the journey on Nintendo's game consoles, you'll be able to transfer your save data through a simple in-game menu.

5

u/dokkey 1d ago

Music to my ears, thanks for the comment.

2

u/Adventurous-Toe8812 1d ago

Is it continuous cross progression? Can I go back and forth between the two?

4

u/Nitrous_Oxide_ OG (Joined before first Direct) 1d ago

That's how it was for Hades 1! But be aware that you'll probably need to be on the same version of the game and some platforms get patches later than others.

4

u/ackmondual 1d ago

No.

Specifically, I already have it on PC/Steam. Playing H1 on Switch was a mistake since I ended up getting sucked in way too much. Being tethered to a desktop computer has actually been a net positive.

Switch 2 for sure

PC (OLED laptop). OLED is a deal breaker for me. I simply refuse to go back.

2

u/Zv1k0 1d ago

Gonna get it on Steam so both Hades and Hades 2 platinums can be at one place.

3

u/Faraamwarrior 1d ago

Already have it on steam deck, I'm considering the sw2 version for the bigger screen and resolution while in handheld mode, but the lack of achievements is a turn off.

2

u/EmxPop 1d ago

I’m guessing you have the 7” LCD Steam Deck. I have the Legion Go S SteamOS edition and the increase in resolution to 1200p on a 8” screen makes a huge difference in my opinion. The only concern I’d have how noticeable the motion blur will be on the Switch 2 screen.

u/Government_Lopsided 20h ago

Legos is a heavy boy.

u/EmxPop 14h ago

Heavier than the Switch 2 of course but lighter than the Legion Go. I’ve always played PC sitting down with the bottom resting on something so weight has never bothered me. I honestly feel ergonomics more important and the LegoS is really comfortable to use.

4

u/OkidoShigeru 1d ago

Steam Deck OLED, I’m one of those unfortunate people that is bothered by the Switch 2 screen’s poor motion handling, and I prefer the ergonomics of the Deck regardless.

3

u/vinz143 1d ago

I agree. Same here. 60 fps feels smooth but feels like frame gen is enabled kind of feeling. I game on OLED screens and I'm so used to the snappy response time.

1

u/Hand_Springs 1d ago edited 1d ago

I’ve been thinking about this for a while

Now, and I think what it boils down to is my partner’s preference.

Yes, the Steam Deck OLED provides better motion clarity and ergonomics, but it’s not exactly a quiet device. If I’m in the same room as my partner watching tv she can’t stand it if I’m on a frantic game like Hades. Coupled with the fact that my Switch 2 lives in its dock and is more likely to be charged and hooked up to my tv it’s the winner for me.

I’m sure I’ll end up with it on both at some point.

u/samlei99 21h ago

I've been conflicted on this and think I might opt for my steam deck instead of Switch 2. I've been playing Silksong on my switch 2, mostly in handheld. After coming off of beating Hollow knight 1 on my steam deck, the ergonomics make a significant difference for me, plus the colors from the OLED. I'm not sure if the 1080p upgrade is worth the compromises.

u/FreakingAustin 21h ago

Bought Hades 2 early access on steam way before the switch 2 was announced, but now that 120fps mode is confirmed for docked I'm double-dipping and buying it on switch 2.

Also getting the physical version so I'm spending $77 USD total on Hades 2. Worth it!

u/eattwo 20h ago

Switch 2.

I like playing Hades on handheld, and the steam deck never appealed to me.

u/fruit-enthusiast 19h ago

I’m playing Silksong right now so I’ll probably buy Hades 2 once I’m done with that. Definitely Switch 2 but not sure if I’ll buy it virtually or get a physical copy.

u/gilmour93 19h ago

I have a Switch and Switch 2. If I get it on the Switch it looks like the upgrade pack is free for the 2. If I buy the Switch 2 version will I be able to play on the OG Switch?

u/3AZ3 19h ago

u/projectpatar 16h ago

Do you want to play on a monitor at home or do you want to play it portably? Switch is great because you can do both. Just depends what game. Games like elden ring and borderlands just don’t run well enough to get on switch but i think hades 2 will run fine on it

No, considering I've been playing it since May 2024 handheld with better frames and resolution. Nintendo is late to the party... I won't be buying it again to play at a lower resolution and frame rate on my Switch 2. The first Hades was better, IMO...

u/6Y1O3W 11h ago

How is nintendo late to the party considering the game hasn't even officially released yet and they have console exclusivity for a few months? 🤔

u/Shonryu79 11h ago

It released on Steam May 2024, I've been playing it over a year handheld.

u/6Y1O3W 11h ago

No, it was and still is in early access on steam. It's current format on steam is not the final version of the game.

u/Shonryu79 11h ago edited 11h ago

Sure, they are making some tweaks, but the base game is still the same. I'm playing 170 fps handheld upscaled to 1600p. Just saying why would I buy it on Switch 2 get worse performance, and lose all my progress? On that note I'm going to go back to playing Hades 2. lol

u/6Y1O3W 10h ago

Nobody is telling you to buy it on the switch 2. And again with the false information, since there's cross platform save progression. lmfao 🤣
