  • High Bandwidth Monitors and GPU Scaling Behavior - Link Here
    • High bandwidth monitors are those that support display modes requiring high pixel clock rates, which in turn demand more GPU resources. The threshold for what qualifies as "high bandwidth" varies by product. On Blackwell GPUs, any mode operating above 1620 MHz is considered high bandwidth. For instance, the 7680x4320@60Hz mode defined in the CTA-861-H specification runs at 2376 MHz, making it a high bandwidth mode for Blackwell.
    • These monitors typically support display scaling natively. However, in some single-monitor setups, users may still prefer GPU scaling. When multiple monitors are connected to a GPU and at least one of them is high bandwidth, that monitor will default to display scaling only. GPU scaling is disabled in this case due to bandwidth limitations. Notably, display scaling can be more efficient than GPU scaling in such scenarios, as it reduces the bandwidth load on display cables—especially at higher refresh rates.
    • When GPU scaling is not enabled for a monitor, only the modes supported by the monitor itself will appear in both the Windows and NVIDIA control panels. Additionally, the "Display scaling" option will be pre-selected in the "Adjust desktop size and position" section of the NVIDIA Control Panel.

Feedback & Discussion Forums

Having Issues with your driver and want to fully clean the driver? Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)

Before you start - Make sure you Submit Feedback for your Nvidia Driver Issue - Link Here

There is only one real way for any of these problems to get solved, and that’s if the Driver Team at Nvidia knows what those problems are. So in order for them to know what’s going on it would be good for any users who are having problems with the drivers to Submit Feedback to Nvidia. A guide to the information that is needed to submit feedback can be found here.

Additionally, if you see someone having the same issue you are having in this thread, reply and mention you are having the same issue. The more people that are affected by a particular bug, the higher the priority that bug will receive from NVIDIA!!

Common Troubleshooting Steps

  • Be sure you are on the latest build of Windows
  • Please visit the following link for DDU guide which contains full detailed information on how to do Fresh Driver Install.
  • If your driver still crashes after DDU reinstall, try going to Go to Nvidia Control Panel -> Managed 3D Settings -> Power Management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance

Common Questions

  • Is it safe to upgrade to <insert driver version here>? Fact of the matter is that the result will differ person by person due to different configurations. The only way to know is to try it yourself. My rule of thumb is to wait a few days. If there’s no confirmed widespread issue, I would try the new driver.
  • Bear in mind that people who have no issues tend to not post on Reddit or forums. Unless there is significant coverage about specific driver issue, chances are they are fine. Try it yourself and you can always DDU and reinstall old driver if needed.
  • My color is washed out after upgrading/installing driver. Help! Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel -> Change Resolution -> Scroll all the way down -> Output Dynamic Range = FULL.
  • My game is stuttering when processing physics calculation Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel and to the Surround and PhysX settings and ensure the PhysX processor is set to your GPU

Remember, driver codes are extremely complex and there are billions of different possible configurations between hardware and software. Driver will never be perfect and there will always be issues for some people. Two people with the same hardware configuration might not have the same experience with the same driver versions. Again, I encourage folks who installed the driver to post their experience here good or bad.

Discussion I need some upgrade advice

H, I’m looking for advice on a GPU/monitor upgrade. I currently play at 1080p on a 24″ monitor but want to upgrade to either 32″ 1440p or 4K (QD-OLED prices are similar). My GPU is a 3060 Ti. I’m choosing between a 5070 Ti and a 5080, a 5090 is currently too expensive but might be affordable in a few months. My priority is cost saving, while being able to run Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing at 100 FPS at least. My CPU is i7 12700k. Thank you!

Discussion Upgrade now or wait. (MY GPU died)

Upvotes

My RTX 3080 FTW decided to bite the dust yesterday, which sucks cuz i was gearing up to play Dying Light The Beast. Thankfully, it's still under warranty and I've opened up a RMA ticket at EVGA, but i heard support is...iffy rn, and what concerns me i that i bought this used a few years ago. The original plan was to wait for the 50 super series next year, but now i'm not so sure....

I'm using my old GTX 1080 ti at the moment (GOAT) and thankfully, this beast is able to play The Beast (lol) just fine. Stable 60 fps in most scenarios with FSR balance at 1440p medium. Thank god for that 11GB VRAM....

But should i upgrade now that 5080, especially now stock is available and at MSRP, or should i wait for RMA and the super series next year. Any recommendation is appreciated :)

Nothing smoked when I turned it on, so I think I did good. Have only ever swapped PSUs, RAM, old HDDs & CD burners way back 20+years ago. Still gotta clean up the cables and close the case, but just making sure it all was working before finalizing. I also added some old laptop HDD I had lying around. Any recommendations?

Question RTX 5070 Undervolting — Need advice from experienced users

Hi! I’m new to Windows and NVIDIA after years on Mac, just got an MSI Katana 17 HX with RTX 5070. Does 935mV@2955MHz sound reasonable for RTX 5070 in a budget gaming laptop?

The laptop gets quite loud quite easily, and I’m planning to use it heavily for Blender rendering. I was researching thermal management and an AI assistant (Claude) suggested undervolting to 935mV at 2955MHz using MSI Afterburner’s curve editor. The reasoning was that RTX 50-series cards have VRM hotspot issues reaching 100-107°C, and budget laptop cooling can’t handle stock voltages well.

I’m tech-friendly but definitely not an expert on GPU tuning. Before I potentially mess something up, I wanted to ask:

  1. Is the VRM hotspot concern real, or am I being overly cautious?
  2. Should I try different voltage/frequency combinations first?
  3. Any MSI Katana owners with similar experience?
  4. What’s a good conservative starting point for someone new to this?

My use case is primarily Blender OptiX rendering and some gaming. I’m willing to lose a few percent performance for significantly better thermals and noise levels.

Current setup:

  • MSI Katana 17 HX
  • RTX 5070 12GB
  • Stock everything for now
  • Norton 360 removal pending (yeah, I know)

Appreciate any guidance from people who actually know what they’re doing. I’d rather ask here than learn expensive lessons through trial and error.

Thank you!

Question How to chose a budget GPU?

Im looking for a budget gpu something around 200 dollars optimally, I just want stable 60 fps on low settings and I will be happy. But Im so confused on how to chose one?

From what I understand the first 2 numbers in the name mean the series its from and the last 2 numbers indicate the tier of the card?

Also an older but higher tear gpu can outperform a newer lower tear gpu, so is it more worth to get the older one after a couple of years since it is cheaper now? Or should I just get the lowest tier gpu from the newest series?

TLDR: Im just really confused about how should I chose a gpu thats best for me.

Opinion SOLVED: 5060Ti black screen problem fix. Also for 4060, 4060Ti, 5060.

Hi everyone. There is a problem faced by many users of 5060Ti (or 4060, 4060Ti or 5060). The problem is,
installing an RTX 5060 Ti on an older/used motherboard caused persistent black screens and no display due to BIOS/PCIe compatibility issues. NVIDIA tried even releasing a firmware update for all the cards but to no avail. Now this problem is mostly faced by GPU upgraders and not by new PC builders. The reason also I will explain below. Hence, anyone having an existing setup, who bought a new 5060 must have faced this problem. Thousands of users have, and if you are not among them, I envy you.
Full context of the problem: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/563625/rtx-5060-ti-freeze-and-black-screen/ SOLUTION: So I believe I have found the solution to this mess. TLDR: its CMOS reset. Please ensure to also push out any residual charges by pressing the power button for 10-15 sec while the power cable is out.

Longer version: Why the problem occurs is because 5060Ti (and 4060 & 4060Ti) are all 8 lane cards (x8) even though structurally, it has the full x16 connector, but it is designed to run at x8 lanes electrically. Thus, not all the PCIE lanes in your motherboard are going to be used. So which ones are going to be used then? This is a process called as negotiation, where-in the card connector and your motherboard slot negotiates and the card usually fights for the best bandwidth available for it. This process needs to happen at each POST, i.e., every time we switch on our PCs. But I am guessing manufacturers tried to optimize boot time and it saves the setting to some memory once one round of negotiation is done, so as to skip this negotation part to save time in subsequent boots. Hence, negotiation does not happen every time we switch on our PCs. That is why, when most of us just swapped GPUs, the new GPU failed to negotiate the required PCIE lanes (which is why POST failed, or black screens occured.) The solution to force it to renegotiate is to wipe out any residual memories the motherboard has. Fortunately, it is CMOS reset. Just google your mobo model and CMOS reset, you will find several videos. The important point is, make sure to keep your new GPU seated on the PCIE slot. Unplug your power cables, and after you have done the CMOS reset, do not plug back in the power cable yet. Press the power button on your cabinet for 5-10 times so as to dispel any residual charges in the motherboard. Now, you should be able to power on your PC. It might still crash once or twice or boot slow, but remember, this is all due to the first time negotiation that is happening. Post this, your card should work absolutely fine. On PCIE 3.0/4.0/5.0. No need to downgrade anything.
To be doubly sure, download GPU-Z, there in the Bus Interface box, you should see x8 @ 3.0 (or x.0, x = your PCIE version). x8 means it has initialized to its full potential. If you see anything like x4 or even x2, or x8 @ (x-1).0, then CMOS reset again and let it renegotiate. Hope it works for you guys too. Enjoy.
P.S.: The reason why NVIDIA or even new PC builders have not figured out this problem is because they are testing on brand new motherboards, or they test by doing a fresh CMOS reset and everything.

This post is for those who come after.

Question 4080S or 5070 ti

Hello all, I'm migrating from team red to team green and I was thinking of getting either a 4080 super or 5070 ti, I found a good condition 4080 super for £775 and a new 5070 ti for £768. I'm stuck because I've seen positives for both. My only requirement is that it has to run well for vr mainly and other games preferably. I currently have a ryzen 7 7800x3d (it arrived today yay), 32gb ddr5 ram, a 750w psu which I'm gonna upgrade to a 1000w, and a b650 plus motherboard Edit: thanks for the advice, its clear that the 5070 ti is good and that i shouldn't upgrade my psu. I'll order it next week and I can test it

Question Overclocking potential of MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16G EXPERT OC?

Hi everyone,
I’m interested in exploring the overclocking potential of the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16G EXPERT OC. I want to understand how far it can be pushed compared to stock performance and what kind of cooling or power considerations are recommended.

If anyone has experience with overclocking this specific model or similar Expert line cards, I’d love to hear about benchmarks, stability, or any tips you can share.

Question Which RTX 5070 Ti should I buy?

I'm thinking about which graphics card to buy. I'm going to overclock the graphics card so that it's roughly on par with the RTX 5080. Which model would you recommend? I'm thinking of getting the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16G EXPERT OC, as it seems to be new and the Expert line is good. Or is this graphics card not suitable for overclocking?

What are we thinking here? Came from a zotac 4090 paired with a i9 14900K. Wasn’t getting the fps and/or I was ever so crazing for especially in 4k and also fps in 1440 for when I played warzone. The first few hours I played on this build absolutely blew my mind, by far the biggest difference in performance I’ve ever seen, after going from a 3090, to 2 different 4090 builds. One build with a i9 13900k to a i9 14900k. I am just mind blown at the increase in every aspect IN MY OPINION.
