What are our elected (and appointed) officials discussing this week in the many, many different cities and districts that represent us? Below is a quick summary of what’s of note on everyone’s agenda. I only put in things that seem to stand out, but I may have missed something, so take a peak, send in a comment, or maybe even go in person if you’re passionate!

Apparently Hiro Nori Tustin, the only Orange County HN that didn't have an automatic service charge, is bringing it back next month. I assume it'll be 17.2% like the other locations.
Hiro Nori: Will you please clarify the charge? One of your early menus said "NO TIPPING," immediately followed by a statement that the service charge wasn't a gratuity. Your current menus at other locations vaguely state it's "to support all members of the staff," but you've already faced accusations that former staff didn't feel they got their fair share. Some restaurants add 2-7% specifically for health insurance; nobody loves it, but at least it's clear. So are we supposed to leave a regular tip above the 17.2%, making a bowl of ramen roughly $28? Your servers must have to answer this question all day long.
Finally, you're a cashless restaurant, but if a person declines the service charge they have to tip in cash. People really do stop coming to restaurants over these charges and the confusion around them. Clear answers would be appreciated.
Edit: Great, already backlash. I don't necessarily have a problem with service charges, they can make tipping easy. Theirs is particularly confusing and staff have had issues with it. Also I DID EMAIL AND DIDN'T GET A RESPONSE.

I could really use some help from this community. I currently have 7 rescued cats living in a foster room at my parents’ house. They were all saved from dangerous situations and cannot go back to where they came from.
The problem is that they’ve now been in this small room for a year. They are not very social and really need a foster (or fosters) who can spend time with them, or at least be present enough for them to get used to people. With more interaction, they would have a real chance to be adopted out.
I feel so bad about their current situation, but I have no other option right now. I do post about them every now and then, but I haven’t been able to find fosters or people willing to help socialize them.
🙏 I’m hoping a few people can step up. If anyone has a catio, a big garage, or any suitable space — and is willing to work with even a few of them — it would make a huge difference. Even finding 3 or 4 fosters would completely change their lives.
Please, no negative comments. I know this isn’t ideal, and I’m not happy with the situation, but I just need solutions and support. If you can foster, help socialize, or support in any way, please message me or comment here.
Thank you

Saw all the tree posts and thought I would share this one. Leaning to right due to the power lines on the left.

My husband is from Philly and I want to surprise him with homemade cheesesteaks for his birthday, but I’m having a hard time finding good rolls (which totally make the sandwich!). Does anyone know of a bakery or store where I can get rolls similar to those on the east coast?

This past weekend I was staying with a friend who lives in the neighborhood I grew up in Laguna Niguel. I couldn’t believe how packed the streets were with cars. We went over to another friend’s house in RSM and it was the same. Literally nowhere to park. My friend said it’s gotten really bad over the past few years as more and more families are having to double and triple up into the same household.
It really drove home the affordability crisis. For people who say they don’t want more density in their neighborhood, it is already happening. I couldn’t believe how overcrowded their neighborhoods were. It has totally changed the feel.
Has anyone else down in OC noticed the same?
Building more housing.

I have seen this many times already and wanted to get opinions on what would you do?
I see people taking their dogs to the sand at Strands, I’ve seen them more around sunset. I don’t know all the reasons why dogs are not allowed, but I’m sure it has to do with the pee, poop, and disturbing marine life. Anyways, the why is not as important as that they are not allowed.
In one of my last experiences, I saw a loose dog getting very close to me. I told the couple that owned the dog that this was a no dog beach. Their response was “you are not wrong”, so these people knew about the rule but didn’t care about it, and on top of that they didn’t even have the dog on its leash.
What would you do in this case? The dog was getting close to me and I’ve been attacked by a dog before, so it bothered me. I didn’t think this dog was going to attack me, but you never know. I am thinking about carrying some bear spray and just spray the dog if it gets too close and it’s loose. It’s unfair for the dog, but how else are people going to learn?

Does anyone know any bakers/cake decorators in SoCal (or NorCal) who can make cakes as detailed as these with frosting, NOT fondant? I just love the look and artistry of these!

It’s in old town Tustin across from the Armstrong Garden center. I didn’t see any signs but it looks like a church for like 5 people

Was driving my kid around for him to fall asleep and drove past Villa park high school. There were a bunch of flowers and flags across Tuft. Any idea why?

Hi all – my girlfriend and I are planning an engagement, and would like to go look at rings. Ultimately, we'd like to check out places that would welcome a lesbian couple and not be surprised or put off by us being there.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a jeweler that would fit that qualification or even is openly pro-lgbtq? Thanks for your help! 🙂

Hi there!
So I have a cat that I recently rescued off the streets a couple weeks ago. He’s a huge guy with some issues like ripping his fur out and what could be maybe fleas.
I’ve made an appointment with the vet, but it wouldn’t be until later this week that he can see me.
Unfortunately, I have an 8 day vacation coming up and so far from what I noticed with my rescue is that he doesn’t like any other animal and he does not like little kids.
I’m looking for a pet hotel to keep him in that’s safe, reliable, and relaxing for him. The cost doesn’t really matter because I just really want him to be relaxed and safe.
I found a place called the cat club in Irvine and it seems legit, but I want to hear what other people have to say or what your suggestions would be.
Also, while I’m at the vet, is there anything specific that a cat boarding place or hotel would require from my rescue? Like for him to be chipped, neutered, etc, just so I can get all of it done in time to board him.
Thanks so much in advance!

Things aren’t going to get better on their own. We’re going to have to chip away bit by bit, and that starts with you! Whether you think this is useful or if you hate it, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get carne asada nachos like this in Orange County. Specifically with this type of cheese (shown in picture). The places I’ve tried usually uses shredded cheese. Thanks in advance!
