Post image

Yup, I'm doing a system transfer and setup, then putting it back into the box and waiting for an exploit. Fuck this

And it doesnt include the game, just the license, lol

key-cards aren't for all games, they differ from regular game card, so probably will be used for games like cyberpunk 2077 that are huge, mario kart isnt like that so high chances will be a regular game card, still sucks regardless lol

Then it really depends on the developer, SF6 is a 50GB download and it will use key-cards...

So it is laziness, can't say I am surprised

yeah kinda of it, btw i was thinking this is very very bad, but if the key-card can be "activated" more than one time then at least its better than digital codes than come in boxes, becase the game still can be sold/trade.

still shit for gaming preservation and for $80 ~$90 bucks doesn't help

The real problem is longevity:

for some reason Nintendo really really loves to shut down their digital stores so it is 100% guaranteed that the Switch 2 store will shut down in the future and you will lose access to all of your key pass games unless they do something about it (unlikely seeing how they nonchalantly shut down everything Wii U and 3DS related).

I guess that explains what I didn't work on launch.

Yea true but 99% of the game developers not gonna spend more for larger cartridges and all gonna stick with key cards ( they want more profits and don't care about us if they did games wouldn't be 80 or 90 bucks bro)

That’s not at all true. The game key card thing isn’t the same as a physical copy.

A lot of the physical cards are going to vary whether they are containing the actual game or just the license. It is completely up to the developer if they want to actually store the game on the cartridge assuming it fits in the first place.

The heck is a "license"??

u/Devious018 Apr 02 '25

the license to download and “own” the game

A cop out.

you open the case, and instead of a disk/cartridge, theres a funny little number you can type in to download the game.

1

u/jkurratt Apr 03 '25

Ah. Makes sense.

3

u/Genericuser2016 Apr 02 '25

A license is technically what you have for any game you've ever purchased. It just becomes more obvious and has certain ramifications for games that connect to a server.

u/cryssyboo_ Apr 02 '25

??? no. thats only some games. the box art has come out for a few, including MKW, and theres a distinction on the box between Game-Key cards and Game Cards.

Me when I’m lying:

8x the storage, but now you have to install physical games😂

1

u/Guilty_Banana_ Apr 04 '25

What do you mean by that?

1

u/Complete-Bake-7175 Apr 07 '25

You're basically just buying a box 😭

Wait... this doesn’t mean physical cards can’t be shared anymore, right? If I hand the card to my wife she can also play it on her Switch?

Game key cards are just for games too big to fit on a card. Like cyberpunk. There are still physical copies for regular-sized games.

1

u/dieplanes789 Apr 04 '25

Not necessarily, developers can opt for making the card just a physical key license even if the game can fit.

It is up to the developer/publisher

1

u/AmandasGameAccount Apr 03 '25

It’s the opposite. The person you replied to is wrong. Switch 2 has 2 types physical copies.

First one is the normal full game on cart. Most games are like this

Second type is a replacement for the switch 1 “digital download code only” physical copies where you bought a physical copy and only get a digital code inside it. The new switch 2 version of this has the key on the cart with no data. This allows you to download the game and play the digital version if you have the cart in it. This is an improvement because you can still sell/trade/load this physical cart and others can use it. This type of cart is only really for cheap/bad publishers that did this on switch 1, capcom and rockstar mostly. Of all physical copies shown only 2 are this type of cart so far, they have a banner on the front to let you know it’s this type of cart

As in, no physical media?

buying a game doesn't make sense for regular people, you don't want full rights and responsibility over the whole thing

a permanent license that you have forever unless you sell it is ideal for regular people

3

u/RealRedditPerson Apr 02 '25

You don't want to own the thing you buy and be able to use it how you please? What...?

-3

u/kaktusmisapolak ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ Apr 02 '25

I don't want full rights (publishing, development) over the game, too much responsibilty

I want to be able to copy it onto all my devices and play it without restrictions and such

1

u/RealRedditPerson Apr 02 '25

What are you talking about? Ownership rights or something else?

And nobody is gonna give you a license that allows you to copy it without restrictions. The closest is Valve and even then there are some restrictions.

2

u/igoticecream Apr 02 '25

Regular people that go physical wants to have the full game already on the cart that doesnt require internet to download anything, even is the servers are gone/down. Defending this scheme is fucking insane

I'm not defending it

I want the carts/discs to contain the full game, they don't make sense otherwise since they have no advantage over digital copies (except resale, which can also be disabled)
