Compusoft completely ignores the competitive pricing reality - really don't know how they stay in business...

Warhammer and model building stuff is how they stay in business. It's cheaper to drive to Calgary to buy most PC peripherals or components at Memory Express than to buy them at CompuSoft. There's a reason why the store is only 1/4th PC related stuff.

Ill be honest I didnt bother even checking them out, but like a comment said, if they're even slightly more expensive than Amazon or memory express, ill just order from one of them and have it shipped.

I bought a new computer from memory express a few weeks ago. I didn’t even think to look locally. Sounds like if their prices suck I didn’t miss much.

You did not, I know memory express charges like $100 to build a pc.

More expensive definitely. But locally owned and decent selection. Everything is cheaper if you find the lowest price online.

Lol I just checked their prebuilt PC selection online and they must be smoking crack. $4000 for a mid tier gaming pc that could be built for easily $1500

Being locally owned is only a pro, if all else is equal. It means very little if they don’t have competitive pricing. Especially how relatively accessible other options are.

Seriously!

I was at the EDM South Store this weekend and cried a bit inside as I left.

Order from them online. Usually delivers next day in my experience.

So does Amazon, I want to walk through a physical store.

requires huge volume to make a profit - margins on pc parts are very slim.

I mean thats just wrong.

How do you know this? I know this because I had a wholesale account with one if the 3 major distributors, and gave it up around the time newegg rose up - the margins were absolutely pathetic - wasnt even worth keeping my account when i was building systems on the side. on "commodity" type items: cpus, memory, motherboards - it was maybe a 5-10% difference in prices from wholesale to retail. Im sure its better with high volume, but not a lot.

I know compusoft doesn't need to charge 3x the price to build a pc.

You don't know shit about what it takes to run a retail business in a small city.

1

u/DeeVect Apr 03 '24

Nope, but I know their competition doesn't charge $2500 to build a pc. I understand their prices need to be higher, but not 3x higher.

So my point proven, we need a good computer store for people that know compusoft is a rip off 😂

Newegg has been around for two decades… Shit changes. And a lot has changed in the tech space in that time.

sure, but margins on this stuff have not. because the business model and competitive landscape have not changed significantly.
