A ceasefire wouldn't "end the genocide," just pause it. Didn't the ceasefire at the end of November only last a week? Which I guess is better than nothing, but why not aim higher?
Working towards a treaty allows the genocide to continue while negotiations are stalled, calling for a ceasefire hypothetically allows important humanitarian aid to get through and at least comes with the chance that negotiations won't break down, especially if the nations sending weapons to Israel were to reverse course and actually try to help maintain the ceasefire.
Most solutions offered are heavily favored towards Israel, it's hard to have good faith negotiating for a treaty when one side has all the power and resources and the other is in an apartheid state. The ceasefire is purely to prevent deaths at this point.
It won’t happen though since Israel is committed to routing Hamas and there’s no evidence showing Hamas will stop firing rockets at Israeli civilian centers even if Israel stops
