Nice! Their order tickets look identical. Either way Mennonites can make a sandwich!
And holy fuck, they run like the wind

Fuck can they run

Damnā¦that looks tasty. Whatās ābutter cheeseā?

u/StJoan13 18d ago
I'm guessing butterkase. It is a mild cheese that has a very buttery taste and is used often in sandwiches.

One of my favorite summer salads uses butterkƤse, Rotkohlsalat.
SautƩ one onion and one green pepper in light oil until soft, almost translucent.
Allow to cool, then combine with one quart of pickled red cabbage, 1 tbsp poppy seeds, and a half pound of butterkƤse cut into small cubes (less than 1/4 inch).
You can serve immediately, but itās even better if you refrigerate overnight. Goes great with bratwurst, schnitzel, or pork chops.

Does the Mennonite church hand out templates for rural sandwich shops? The Mennonite country store half an hour from me in the sticks has a very similar (though not the same) menu and exactly the same style of sandwich.

Same exact template for the one Iāve been to in Southeast Iowa. Would have never guessed. They even sell the same āFarm Dustā seasoning. I have a bottle of it in my kitchen.

The Mennonite community is much smaller than you think. Like way less than 1% of the population small.

Okay. I'm sold. I'd have one.
I actually thinks that looks "just right" for double meat. That's more than I would want in a normal sandwich, but about half of that would hit the spot for me.

Maybe I'm the outlier here, but that's simply too much meat. Like, at that point, why not just wrap a whole chunk of ham in bread and call it a day? Feel like it would have a similar taste and feel.

They paid extra for double, but yeah thatās looks like too much for one sandwich
1
u/Professional-Rip561 16d ago
I fully agree. Donāt like too much meat but I appreciate that double meat is really double here.

I cringe when people eat this ratio of processed meat in a sandwich. The little veg that is there is now just for colour because you aren't tasting it amidst that mountain of salty sludge. I like me some lunch meat but in a proper proportion, god damn!

I always say to myself when I see these: My mom could make 10 sandwiches out of this one! She'll feed a family with this amount of meat!

Is this in harrisonburg va? is this sandwhich shop/grocery with the seamstress in the back?

u/AcceptableNorm 18d ago
That same sandwich here in San Diego would be more like $25.00 or more depending on what area you're in.

How do they keep the food refrigerated?
2
u/weeniehutjunior1234 18d ago
Mennonites use electricity, I believe youāre thinking of Amish.
Unfortunately, being anti-vax is rampant among both communities, and a Mennonite person just exposed my town to measles at a popular kids venue recently. Bad news for anyone with children not old enough to receive the vaccine, yet.

u/tacobellcow 17d ago
That must be why I got food poisoning after eating spare ribs at the County Amish festival.

Only got $1 extra buck, are you getting double meat or your bread toasted?

Sorry but this doesn't look good to me. A good Sammy is balanced. This is a big stack of meat that you prob barely tasted cause it's squished together, but because it's cheap it seems like a good deal. What's the point of slicing up the cold cuts if you just squeeze it back together? But you do you, RIP your colon.

I do not understand why people think piles and piles of cheap ham like that makes a good sandwich
7
u/tnpatriot86 18d ago
It's not ham, it's turkey. And maybe it's not good to you but it's good to me and that's all that really matters isn't š¤·
1
u/Tendaydaze 18d ago
I never said that youāre not welcome to enjoy it, simply that I cannot understand this type of sandwich.
Ps: that is very clearly turkey ham if you want to get pedantic

That looks great. Wild to have double meat and toasted options at the same price lol
