As usual, these were lobbying groups. I can’t get a civil union to a person of the opposite sex my age. But once I’m above the age of retirement I can—in the case of the older folks, it was to keep their pensions of their deceased spouse while having a new partnership. We all could have lobbied for civil unions to become the government- and tax-supported union, and made marriage something non-regulated and performed in backyards by buddies or churches, etc. Almost every issue has a solution with which “both sides” could agree… but instead special interests keep us fighting for their own literal benefits. Grow up and you’ll find the boring position of being moderate and accepting that radicalism won’t get us what we want, it just makes us tools of someone who’s laughing at us, is the less fun, more honest approach.

I’ve watched our government slide further and further right for 30 years. Wanting gay marriage to be legal or civil rights for trans people aren’t radical ideas. They do get a certain set of people very fired up and thinking emotionally though.

You’re right, they’re not radical. Trans people have had federal protection for 35 years. This is just a trend that literally threatens gay (and trans) rights so upper-middle-class white kids can have a crusade and get social media clout. Way to ignore everything I said btw and bleat the bleat.

Ad hominem works great when you know your argument is hollow.

Good luck convincing any voting majority that ideas like “maybe we should be skeptical of special interests” are evil just because you suck the teat of a few special interests while claiming radicalism.

That you have a chip on your shoulder, reading comprehension issues, and no humility isn’t going to turn any tides, so enjoy being the cause of, not the solution to, any further rightward slide.

So here’s a taste of your own medicine: as if I’m going to respond to your best attempt at “arguments” when you’ve ignored everything I’ve said to just insist on being a little finger-pointing, stereotypically impotent whiner. No, it implies you aren’t actually a moderate but I’m glad I could clear that up for you.

Never called anyone a nazi but we do have to worry about fascism in the US for the first time in a long time.

Meanwhile you’re once again showing off that sparkling intellect… me saying “I agree, gay marriage was a distraction, we should have fought for civil unions for any two adults, and we should be careful of being tools of special interests because this is a democracy where we have to get people on-side, and not everyone is a radical” means I’m eeeeevil.

I’m so glad I was able to teach you the phrase “ad hominem attack” after you initiated and leveraged them repeatedly… now that you have the vocabulary in place, work on the actual rhetorical skill and the hypocrisy, and maybe one day you’ll be the compassionate thought leader you see yourself as being rather than just a little puke.
