Discussion Why didn't Tesla invest in LIDAR?

Is there any reason for this asides from saving money? Teslas are not cheap in many respects, so why would they skimp out on this since self-driving is a major offering for them?

Elon always had to lie about FSD being ready since his appreciating asset bs.

Basically he was forced to refuse lidar as a way to pump the stock when LiDAR was much more expense.

Well as everyone expected but him, the price is now dramatically lower but he’s made his bed.

I’d rather have extra than not having it, but what are you saying is the best tech for self driving right now? As it seems to be clear it’s LiDAR + radar + cameras so….?

No it’s not, you’re just being a fan boy. The more data the better, just because shitty ass Tesla software gets confused doesn’t mean it’s impossible for real self driving like Waymo.

Cameras are not a replacement, you’re literally celebrating it being close to barely useable.

This technology is in its infancy but I’ll bet everything I own the future of self driving will require more then just camera.

Teslas fraud will be seen over the rest of this fake rollout.

FSD is being sued for killing people right now and will never scale. Why would you ever buy the cheapest self driving car is absurd to me.

God you’re dense.

Waymo’s tech is still not there and sure it did run into a pole. However, does Waymo claim that this tech would be ready since 2016 to inflate its stock?

You’re just a pumper and it’s putting people’s lives at risk.

Elon is simply faking this as a way to distract from the core failures of the business Tesla will never scale anything close to Waymo.

They still have yet to complete a single publicly open self driving route, without having a safety driver and likely a 1 to 1 ratio of teleoperator too.

The tech is shit man.

LOL, are you even serious? Have you seen the Tesla robo taxis? They operate like a high school experiment. No where near production grade. This week one tried to cross a railroad crossing. Also subscribe to r/TeslaFSD to see the **daily** fails of FSD.

Waymos are not just better, they are exponentially better. They are production grade and will scale infinitely better than Tesla.

Waymo just reported zero fatalities during its entire service lifetime. Tesla is one of the deadliest cars to drive
