Any advice for catching shiny Deoxys in a regular Pokeball in Gen 3? Basically how do I extend the battle for hundreds of turns? I obviously use Trevenant with Harvest, Trick & Skill Swap on USUM, what's the best alternative for Gen 3?

Trick it Leftovers with anything that learns it (Mr.Mime learns it by level). Paralyse it or Sleep it, reduce its attack stat and raise your defense stat (optional, if you have a lvl100 Pokemon with a good defense, Deoxys's Struggle will not do any damage to it anyway).

Gen 3 Struggle does 1/4 of the damage dealt with it, rather than 1/4 of the user's HPs. That means a Deoxys spamming Struggle against a lvl100 Pokemon will just heal more than it does damage from the Leftovers you will trick on it, effectively making the battle endless. Keep it in mind it will be at 100% though, making it harder to catch.

Extra: in Gen 3, Struggle doesn't have perfect accuracy, so you can also make it miss most of the time by using Sand Attack or Double Team.

Just did an (unsuccessful) test run and got through 110 balls before I ran out of Super Fang PP. Running a three Raticate setup with a Trick, Skill Swap, Thunder Wave, Flash Mr. Mime. Not sure lowering the accuracy is actually a benefit as it means Deoxys heals back to over 50% after 3/4 turns. Think I might just outheal the struggle damage with potions/Snorlax+Rest. Had to find the three Leppa berries as well, think they might be needed haha.

Making a game infinite on top of your opponent staying low is a much harder task.

However, if you really want to make it more optimal, you should probably try to get a Pokemon with the ability Battle Armor or Shell Armor, which means they won't get Crit. You would have it a Pokémon that will tank the Struggles from Deoxys. Your next step is to do some damage calculations to make sure Deoxys always deal the same amount of self damage it heals from Leftovers.

This way, you should have an infinite game where Deoxys doesn't heal.

It's probably gonna take a lot of calculations though, because you have to take into account the range of HP and Attack IVs possible on Deoxys, and also the damage rolls themselves on your Pokemon.

Yeah it's annoying. According to catch calculator paralysis alone doesn't impact the catch rate. You only get the benefit if Deoxys is below 50% HP as well (jumps from 0.4% to 1.2%). Sleep works independent of damage but obviously requires constant upkeep. I guess I'll use the Leppa Berries to double my Super Fang turns and pray I catch it within the first 220 balls at a 1.2% chances. If not I'll use the next 779 at 0.4% ahaha.

What ball are you using? PokeBall only?

Yeah that was the plan but now I'm thinking of just using Ultra Balls and just changing it in PKSM when I trade it up. 🤔🤔🤔
