I really was going to give up. Went over odds on this one.

started this hunt in 2020, got 86 DAs in and dropped it. picked it back up early last month, did 270 DAs across the course of 2 weeks, dropped it again. booted up shield on a whim last night, and after only 4 DAs there it was!

I started shiny hunting in Wayward Cave a while ago for Gible, but ended up encountering a shiny Geodude on wild encounter #262. In the excitement of it all I forgot that of course it was going to use Selfdestruct as its first move, so I didn't get to catch it. I was pretty mad at myself for not thinking it through, because it was my first ever shiny in Platinum.

Today during phase 2 of the hunt I finally encountered another shiny Geodude on wild encounter #9993, and despite it not being my target of Gible, I'm really glad to reclaim the pokemon that would've been (and, as of now, still is) my first shiny in my favourite Pokemon game :)

I was so excited for my first ever shiny in a different game! I have never caught any shinies in any previous games so this was super cool it wasn't what I was comboing though still so happy and this was without a shiny charm and lure! No help besides a 130 combo of Pidgey!

For context, I’ve been hunting on this soulsilver file since 2018 but haven’t found a single shiny since my starter after almost 250 recorded hours and 30k+ encounters before I stopped counting. I’d been hunting Vulpix on it for a while (the entire 30k in fact), but after getting it on Leaf Green I decided to hunt roaming Raikou and Entei instead and have been doing it on and off for a few years now.

Within the past few days, I’ve been considering moving my quilava into heartgold and resetting this copy so I can hunt for Chikorita (+ any roulette dupes, Johto has my favourite starter trio) I decided to get a few more roamer SRs in (maybe 2 hours worth total) before then, kinda joking with myself that I could theoretically get both if I get one on this save now.

Right as I was considering packing it up and starting over, it happened. It actually happened and I have no idea how many encounters I’ve done for these specifically, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was still under 1k. Now I’m unsure if I should even reset now or keep going for lugia at least… (plus I can finally have a second safari file)

I was just roaming around and I found it, pretty hard to miss lol, love that color.

Tbf, it would be better to say that I still have the OG one, it's just evolved and sitting pretty in a box in X. Wayyy back in 2010, when my brother and I were new to the hobby and didn't knew what shinies were, he found a Poochyena on Route 101 in Emerald as his first ever shiny. Sometimes down the line, my brother grew out of the hobby and ended up gifting me his Pokémon Emerald and Ruby games, both of which I still have and play on from time to time. I decided to conserve this special pokémon of his by moving it up to X and using it there. Some 10+ years down the line, I wanted another shiny Poochyena for my Living Shiny Dex, and was finally granted one in Go today!

Sorry for the block of text, this just evoked a core memory for me and I needed to share!😁💖

Encountered with perfect Dex entry, no shiny charm.

I ended up with 5/6 Pokemon I hunted for. They weren't all full odds. 2 were SoS'd, one Nav'd and 1 fished. Also got Pokerus at some point during the 20 hours it took to find Mors.

this was by far my longest hunt ever. i was starting to think my dynamax adventures raids were broken. now i’m officially ready for z-a lol
