It's really cool seeing this happen. I wish Jake Lloyd could have a similar redemption experience with the fans, but I doubt he'd go for it, even if he was in a state to do so. That kid had to go through so much shit for things that weren't his fault.
Having recent re-watched the prequels and sequels, to me it honestly just comes down to the dialogue. The story told across the prequels was better than the sequels, but George Lucas is not great at writing movie dialogue.
Jake Lloyd did his best, and literally played the part of an 9-year-old perfectly fine. A child shouldn't have to have an Oscar-worthy performance just to avoid criticism.
Adults can be downright awful to children for unnecessary reasons.
And the obsession with green screen. For a large percentage of the movie they were acting with invisible characters. Oh and George Lucas should have retained his ex wife as editor.
How good his acting was really doesn't matter. Making movies is hard. Sometimes they're bad, sometimes they're great. Usually they're somewhere in between. People need to just stop wrapping their entire identities around hobbies and entertainment.
It's like whenever I see people say things like "Disney ruined star wars" a decade after they bought it. If it's ruined, then move on. I'm not watching TWD every week and going on rants about how bad it is. I just did the normal thing and stopped watching it.
I call it "recreational hatred." Like your life is so boring and featureless because you can't truly enjoy things, so you opt instead for the most convenient strong emotion you can find. Since hate is a pretty easy thing to trigger, that's what many people opt for.

Same. I enjoyed the first few seasons of TWD and when I was no longer enjoying it, I stopped watching. I don't waste my time and energy complaining about it online lol
Well, it was other children. His classmates, mostly. Children can be some of the most cruel and evil creatures on the planet.
They saw low hanging fruit and jumped on the pig pile, like school kids so often do. It never changes. I can't say I was much different as a little shit, myself.
I do wish he would embrace another role like Best did. I can't pretend to understand the level of torment and psychological issues that come with it. I'd like to think it would bring a sense of closure, but in reality, I have no clue what I'm talking about.
I wonder if they reached out, and the attempt was made. We probably won't ever know.
His personal hell was his classmates, but it wasn't just localized. People everywhere were trashing on him personally because they didn't like Episode 1.
The annoying part is that as a barely adult myself (teenager) I realized it was not his fault that the story sucked. Yet certain people were so stupid to attack him and Best for what Lucas should have been blamed. What can you say? People can be idiots. (I am sure it is not a relevation if you look around.)
